Starring Yi Yangqianxi and Lei Jiayin, new series The Longest. Day in Chang'an has been one of the biggest pleasant surprises for fans of TV dramas this summer. Its intense story and well-designed costumes and scenery have captured the attention of viewers, earning it high marks on review platforms.
The story takes place during the Lantern Festival in Chang'an, the capital of the Tang dynasty. The story follows Zhang Xiaojing, who has been sentenced to death. Before the execution (处决), he is appointed by Li Bi, the young chief of the intelligence department, to stop a group of suspected terrorists called the Wolf Squad and protect Chang'an.
One of the main attractions of the drama has been its recreation and presentation of the ancient city of Chang'an. To give viewers the feeling that they are traveling in the city, the show's director Cao Dun has been making use of single shot scenes that show what the crowded market would have been like during the Lantern Festival in Chang'an. The cast has also been a major draw. They have been an irreplaceable part of the drama. These experienced actors are the foundation for the drama.
The drama includes some impressive and important plot elements, such as watchtowers in the city that are manned by sharpshooters who can hit any target in their range. The production team even came up with a detailed secret communication system that these watchtowers use to communicate with each other. Another innovation is the use of screen notes to explain terms that audiences would be unfamiliar with, such as the term " bu liang ren", which audiences may mistakenly think refers to a villain(坏人)in the drama. An explanation appears on the screen to tell the audience that "bu liang ren" are specialists trained to catch evil guys. It's really helpful.
According to Paragraph 2, what do we know about Zhang Xiaojing?
A He ends up being killed by suspected terrorists.
B He is appointed as the chief of the intelligence departmentby Li Bi.
C He is still sentenced to life imprisonment though he isinnocent.
D He is chosen to defeat the suspected terrorists though hefaces a death sentence.
The drama's director employs the skill of single shot scenes in order to ______.
A make viewers experience the feeling of traveling in the city
B let audiences have a good trip in Chang'an
C have audiences understand the history well
D show what the Lantern Festival is like
What does the term "bu liang ren" refer to?
A The people who are thought to have committed a crime.
B The people who are expert at arresting bad men.
C The people who have no family or possessions.
D The people who are referred to as villains.
What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A The explanation for screen notes.
B The introduction of the communication system.
C The innovation elements of the drama.
D The audience's assessments of the drama.
3.
Empathy(同理心)is one of those strange qualities—something almost everyone wants, but few know how to truly give or receive it. In a world where self-satisfaction is emphasized, it is in short supply but high demand. This is all the more reason to teach the next generation what it means to have empathy for those around them.
What Is Empathy? Many people confuse sympathy and empathy, but they are two distinct values. Empathy is not just the ability to understand someone's feelings; criminals often take advantage of people by appearing to understand their feelings and subsequently gaining their trust. Empathy is more than that. Not only is it the ability to recognize how someone feels, but it also values and respects the feelings of another person. It means treating others with kindness, dignity, and understanding.
Kids Need To See Adults Show Empathy—While some children are gifted with naturally kind hearts, in most cases kids need to see empathy modeled by the adults around them. It begins with the way parents relate to their children. Parents who show an interest in the things that matter to their kids and respond to emotions in a positive and caring way are teaching the skill of empathy.
Meet Emotional Needs—When children have their emotional needs met, two things happen. They learn how to meet the emotional needs of others and they are anchored in what they are receiving, meaning that they are secure enough to give to others when the need arises but first they need to receive. An empty jug cannot fill a cup.
It's a good idea to talk to kids about emotions and how other people experience them. Give their emotions tames (for example, jealousy, anger, and love) and teach them that these are normal. Talk to them about how to handle emotions in a positive way and point out situations where other people are experiencing emotions. Teach them about respecting the emotions of others and show them how to act in a situation where a response is required.
(1)Why are the next generation taught to have empathy?
A Everyone needs empathy.
B Empathy is a strange quality.
C It's better to give than to receive.
D People tend to center themselves.
(2)Which situation can empathy be used in?
A When a teacher is comforting a student about his failure in exams.
B When a criminal is cheating a victim.
C When a dancer is dancing to music.
D When a mathematician is calculating the area of a farmland.
(3)What does the underlined sentence "An empty jug cannot fill a cup" mean?
A It's a must to talk to kids about emotions.
B Adults should set an example to
kids. C Kids give empathy with their emotional needs met first. D An empty jug is too small to hold a cup.
(4)What is the best title of the passage?
A How to distinguish sympathy and empathy.
B How to help kids finish empathy-related tasks.
C Whether kids can be trained to be more empathetic.
D How to train kids to have empathy.

ls there a link between social media and depression? Do Facebook and Instagram have a negative impact on your mental health? It's complicated.
Sometimes, looking through Instagram just makes you feel bad. You try not to envy your friends, but they always seem to be traveling somewhere cool, eating something fancy, or looking cute in perfect just-rolled-out-of-bed hair. On the other hand, there are times when you laugh at funny memes(表情包), catch up with old friends, and feel happy to belong to fun social media communities. Clearly, social media isn't all bad.
People are increasingly suspect that there're the potential problems of social media. Things like cyberbullying, screen addiction, and being exposed to endless filtered images(美颜)that make it impossible not to make comparisons between yourself and others often make the news. In July, a big study came out in the journal JAMA titled "Association of Screen Time and Depression in Adolescence." This big headline seems to confirm what a lot of people have been saying—screen time is horrible for young people.
The study followed over 3800 adolescents over four years as part of a drug and alcohol prevention program. Part of what the investigators measured was the teens' amount of screen time, including time spent on social media, as well as their levels of depression symptoms. One of their main findings was that higher amounts of social media use were associated with higher levels of depression. That was true both when the researches compared between people and compared each person against their own mental health over time.
Case closed? Not so fast. Before we end the debate once and for all, let's take a closer look at this and other studies. Let's ask ourselves: what exactly is the relationship between social media use and depression? It turns out there are several warnings.
(1)Why do people sometimes feel bad when looking through Instagram?
A They feel unbalanced.
B They can travel nowhere.
C They don't look
perfect. D They lack contact with old friends.
(2)Why is the article in journal JAMA mentioned?
A To comment.
B To suggest.
C To prove.
D To explore.
(3)Which may agree with the findings of the study?
A Teens' amount of screen time is limited.
B Depression is related to social media use.
C It is not easy to tell reasons for depression.
D Social media use contributes to mental health.
(4)What's the best title of the text?
A How to reduce depression?
B Shall people reduce screen time?
C Does social media cause depression?
D Why is it time to give up social media?

Every animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month.(1)______
One idea is that sleep helps us strengthen new memories.(2)______ We know that, while awake, fresh memories are recorded by reinforcing(加强)connections between brain cells, but the memory processes that take place while we sleep have been unclear.
Support is growing for a theory that sleep evolved so that connections between neurons(神经元)in the brain can be weakened overnight, making room for fresh memories to form the next day.(3)______
Now we have the most direct evidence yet that he is right.(4)______ The synapses in the mice taken at the end of a period of sleep were 18 percent smaller than those taken before sleep, showing that the connections between neurons weaken while sleeping.
If Tononi's theory is right, it would explain why, when we miss a night′s, we find it harder the next day to concentrate and learn new information—our brains may have smaller room for new experiences.
Their research also suggests how we may build lasting memories over time even though the synapses become thinner. The team discovered that some synapses seem to be protected and stayed the same size.(5)______ "You keep what matters," Tononi says.
A. We should also try to sleep well the night before.
B. It's as if the brain is preserving its most important memories.
C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick.
D. The processes take place to stop our brains becoming loaded with memories.
E. That's why students do better in tests if they get a chance to sleep after learning.
F. "Sleep is the price we pay for learning," says Giulio Tononi, who developed the idea.
