Failure is a common thing in one’s life. Almost everyone experiences failures in his life. People respond differently when failing in their attempt to do something. Some become discouraged, upset or bored, some seem indifferent, and others learn from their failures and make further effort until they achieve success.Success is the achieving of something one has been trying to do, with favorable results. It may lead to fame, glory or great satisfaction. Everyone looks forward to whatever success. People are delighted and excited when succeeding in doing so mething. As the proverb goes, “Failures are, with heroic minds, the
stepping-stones to success.” One has to make great efforts in order to achieve any success. Some great success requires one’s lifelong effort. So one has to overcome difficulties, and may be likely to experience some failures before achieving anything great. Failure teaches us how to learn
from failures, and to avoid similar failures. Edison had thousands of failures before he succeeded in inventing the electric bulb.
Thus, failure is so important for great success that we should never neglect or be upset at it, as failure is the mother of success, and it is the only highroad to success. Successes at the cost of many failures are really valuable and significant.

Is Failure a Bad Thing
Failure is a lack of success in achieving or doing something. It is a usual thing in our life. It may exist in everything we do and wherever we are. People have different attitudes toward failure. When failure comes, some people become so upset that they give up any try in despair. But some show no fear or worry in face of failure. Instead, they stick to their aim, without caring about how many failures they have experienced in their attempt to reach their destination. I am in favor of the latter attitude toward failure.
As the familiar proverb goes, failure is the mother of success. All great people owe their successes to their constant efforts. And unexceptionally all have experienced certain failures before they made any accomplishments. Thomas Edison, great American inventor, is an excellent example. Most of his inventions were the results of hundreds of experiments. Once, when he had made 8,000 tests without success, an assistant asked him if he was discouraged. He replied “Why should I feel discouraged? We’ve made a lot of progress. At least we now know8,000 things that will not work.” He experienced numberless failures all his life ever since he finished his three months of schooling up to his old age. It is true that the way to success is full of various difficulties and obstacles. But failure really teaches success.
In brief, failure is the only highroad to success. As college students, we may face various failures in future, but we should not be frightened or discouraged. And only successes achieved after many failures are really valuable and praiseworthy.。
