关于环境问题写一封信给市长英语作文

篇1

Dear Mayor,

My name is Timmy and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I'm writing to you today because I'm really worried about the environment in our city. Every day when I walk to school, I see trash on the sidewalks and streets. The air often smells like car exhaust and makes my nose itch. The pond near my house used to have ducks swimming in it, but now there's gross green gunk floating on top and no animals around. It makes me sad to see our beautiful town looking so messy and polluted.

At school, we've been learning all about the environment and how important it is to take care of it. Did you know that the trash and pollution we create can make animals sick or even die? plastic bags look like jellyfish to sea turtles, so they eat them by mistake and get really sick. Chemicals from factories can get into the water and poison the fish. Oil spills smother birds and make

their feathers all sticky and gross. It's just terrible what we're doing to the poor animals and their homes!

The pollution doesn't just hurt animals though - it hurts people too. My friend Jacob has asthma, and he told me that the smog and dirty air makes it really hard for him to breathe sometimes. His mom said that stuff in the air can give people cancer and other scary diseases. No one should have to worry about getting sick just from breathing! And all that litter on the ground is so unsightly. Our town used to be gorgeous with flowers blooming everywhere. Now there's just trash marring the beauty.

I know solving these big environmental problems won't be easy, but I really think we need to do something before it's too late. Every day I see more animals disappearing from our parks, more hazy smog in the sky, and more gross litter piling up. It makes me worried about what our town will look like when I grow up if we don't make some changes now.

Here are some ideas I have for helping to fix things:

First, we need to reduce all the trash and litter. Maybe we could have more trash cans around town, especially in parks and near restaurants. Or we could organize community clean-up days where everyone pitches in to pick up litter. Schools could teach

kids more about not littering and recycling. Stores shouldn't be allowed to hand out so many plastic bags - we should use

re-usable grocery bags instead. Oh, and those stupid plastic rings from soda six-packs should be banned because they're super dangerous for wildlife.

Second, we've got to cut down on pollution. Factories should have to install air filters to trap their dirty chemicals and smog before they get released into the atmosphere. There should be limits on how much cars are allowed to pollute too, and maybe some incentives to get people to use public transportation, carpool, or ride bikes more instead of driving everywhere themselves. We could plant more trees around the city to help clean the air too! Trees are like the lungs of the Earth.

Third, we need to protect the plants and animals that are still here. That gross polluted pond by my house should get cleaned up so ducks and fish can live there again safely. Parks could set up bird feeders and baths to help our feathered friends. Stray animals should get picked up kindly and brought to no-kill shelters. Maybe there could be an educational nature center where kids can go learn about the environment.
