David, a famous scientist, has made several important medical breakthroughs (突破). Many people were dying to know the secrets to his fantastic achievements. To work out the mystery, a reporter interviewed him asking why he was able to be so much more creative than most people.
David said that it all came from an experience with his mother that happened when he was about four years old. He tried to remove a bottle of milk from the fridge and it fell, spilling the milk all over the kitchen floor - a real sea of milk!
Instead of shouting at him, giving him a lecture or punishing him, his mother said, “David, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?”
Indeed, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, David, whenever you make a mess like this, in the end you have to clean it up and restore all the things to its correct order. Now, which do you prefer to use, a sponge, a towel, or a mop?” He
chose the sponge and together they cleaned up the floor.
His mother then said, “You have a failed experiment in how to successfully carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands. Let’s go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it.” The little boy then learned that if he held the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it.
This famous scientist said he had learnt a lot from that little accident. It was at that moment that he knew mistakes were not something bad at all. Instead, he learned that mistakes were just chances for learning something new, which is, what scientific experiments are all about. Even if the experiment doesn’t work, we still can learn something valuable from it.

My father was always drunk and angry. He beat me every day. He always locked the door when he went away and kept the key in his pocket. One day I found an old saw(锯子)that he hid in the roof. When I was alone in the house, I started to make a hole with the saw on the wooden floor under the big table.
The next day my father said, “Huck, go to the river and catch some fish for breakfast. Be quick! And don’t try anything. Remember, I’m watching you!”
When my father went to town that afternoon, I got my saw and started to work on the hole. It was late afternoon when I finished making it.
“I did a good job,” I thought, looking at the hole. “Now I’ll get my father’s gun.”
I looked outside the window and there was nobody there. I quickly climbed out through the hole. Then I ran into the woods to hunt a wild pig. To my great joy, I found one. I shot it and took it back to the house and let the pig’s blood fall on the wooden floor of the house. Then I pulled some of my hair out and put it on my father’s axe(斧子)with some of the pig’s blood. I took the pig’s body outside and put it in a big bag with some rocks, and threw it into the river.
“This way people will think ▲!” I thought. “They’ll come and look for my body in the river.” This idea made me smile.
I waited until it was dark and got into the boat and went to Jackson’s Island. I knew about Jackson’s Island because Tom, Ben, Joe and I had a lot of fun adventures there.
