课文原文参考译文Mutilated ladies残钞鉴别组Has it ever happened to you? Have you ever put your trousers in the washing machine and then remembered there was a large bank note in your back pocket? When you rescued your trousers, did note in your back pocket? When you rescued your trousers, did you find the note was whiter than white? People who live in Britain needn't despair when they made mistakes like this (and a lot of people do)! Fortunately for them, the Bank of England has a team called Mutilated Ladies which deals with claims from people who fed their money to a machine or to their dog. Dogs, it seems, love to chew up money!A recent case concerns Jane Butlin whose fiancé, John, runs a successful furniture business. John had very good day and put his wallet containing $3,000 into the microwave oven for safekeeping. Then he and Jane went horse-riding. When they got home, Jane cooked their dinner in the microwave oven and without realizing it, cooked her fiancé's wallet as well. Imagine their dismay when they found a beautifully-cooked wallet and notes turned to ash! John went to see his bank manager who sent the remains of wallet and the money to thespecial department of the Bank of England in Newcastle: the Mutilate Ladies! They examined the remain and John got allhis money back. 'So long as there's something to identify, we will give people their money back,' said a spokeswoman forthe Bank. 'Last year, we paid $1.5m on 21,000 claims. Damaged bank notes. The Queen's head appears on English bank notes, and 'lady' refers to this.

1My Favorite Three SkirtsWhen it comes to fashion, I have to admit I'm a total skirt girl. There's just something about the flowy, feminine feel of a skirt that really appeals to me. While I do have a few pairs of jeans and some other pants in my closet, skirts are definitely my go-to clothing item. I love how versatile they are and how easily they can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.Out of all the skirts hanging in my closet, there are three in particular that stand out as my absolute favorites. Each one is unique in its own way, from the pattern and cut to the fabric and length. Yet they all share one common trait - the ability to make me feel confident and stylish whenever I wear them. The first skirt that comes to mind is a high-waisted black denim number with buttons down the front. I snagged this vintage-inspired gem at a thrift store downtown for only 10! Can you believe that steal? It's definitely one of my proudest bargain finds. What initially drew me to this skirt was the classic denim fabric combined with the ultra-flattering high-waisted silhouette. Denim skirts can sometimes look too casual or youthful, but the high-waisted cut gives this one a sophisticated flair. The row of buttons down the front is also a chic touch that elevates it from basic to fashionable.I love pairing this skirt with a tucked-in graphic tee and some chunky sneakers for a cool, retro vibe. But it can also be dressed up with a nice blouse and ankle booties for a dressier feel. The black denim makes it surprisingly versatile, while thehigh-waisted fit accentuates my waistline in the most flattering way. Twirling around in this skirt never fails to put a smile on my face!My second favorite skirt couldn't be more different in style - it's a sleek black midi skirt made of stretchy ponte fabric. I picked up this wardrobe staple for a reasonable price at a department store a couple years ago, and I've definitely gotten my money's worth from it.With its classic A-line shape and mid-calf length, this skirt is the epitome of effortless sophistication. The thick ponte knit gives it some weight and structure so it falls beautifully. Yet the integrated stretch in the fabric also allows for wonderful mobilityand comfort. It's pretty much the perfect combination of chic and practical! This skirt frequently gets pulled out of my closet for dressier occasions like church, nice dinners out, or work events. I'll usually pair it with a nice blouse or sweater on top. The longer length makes it look refined and polished. But because it has that stretchy knit fabric, it doesn't feel constricting or uncomfortable at all. Just an all-around classy yet comfortable skirt!Last but definitely not least is my current favorite skirt: an emerald green satin midi skirt with a subtle slip pattern throughout. I splurged on this beaut just last month at a trendy boutique, but for me it was worth every penny. Every time I wear it, I get so many compliments! From the luxurious satin material to the eye-catching green shade to the unique slip pattern design, this skirt is truly a showstopper. It has a slim pencil shape with a slit up the back for movement. Despite the sleek silhouette, the lightweight satin fabric allows it to float and drape beautifully.I adore styling this skirt with a black fitted top tucked in to really highlight my waistline. Then I'll add some strappy high heels and dangly earrings to give it a full glam moment. Withsuch a vibrant, standout skirt, I try to keep the rest of my outfit relatively minimal so it can be the star of the show.Whenever I wear my green satin midi skirt, I instantly feel confident, fashionable and fierce. Like I can walk into any room and own it. It's such a fun, eye-catching statement piece! This skirt definitely gets me lots of appreciation and compliments from friends and strangers alike. So those are my three current favorite skirts: thehigh-waisted denim, the black midi, and the green satin midi. While certainly different in many ways, they all make me feel poised, stylish and 100% myself when I wear them.More than just pieces of clothing, these skirts act as wearable mood boosters and confidence builders. When you find items that make you feel amazing as soon as you slip them on, those are the keepers! These three skirts will definitely remain staples in my wardrobe for a long time to come.篇2My Three Favorite SkirtsI'm a total skirt girl through and through. There's just something so feminine and fun about swishing around in a flowy skirt that jeans or pants can never quite capture. Over the years,I've amassed quite the collection of skirts in every style, pattern, color and fabric imaginable. But if I had to choose my three absolute favorites, it would be my denim mini skirt, my pleated pink midi skirt, and my bohemian maxi skirt. Each one is so different and distinct, but they all allow me to express my unique personal style.First up is my treasured denim mini skirt. I snagged this baby for a total steal at my local thrift store. As soon as I slipped it on, I knew it was meant to be mine. The faded denim has the perfect worn-in, vintage vibe without being too distressed. And the fit is absolute perfection – snug around the hips and rear but not too tight, with just the right amount of stretch. Best of all is the skirt's length. It hits right at the top of my thighs, which is short but not so short that I'm uncomfortable or self-conscious. I can dress it down with a basic tee and sneakers for a casual day look, or glam it up with a lacey camisole and heeled booties for a night out.Denim minis have been on trend for decades, from the 60s and 70s to the 90s and today. There's just something so effortlessly cool and sexy about them that never goes out of style. When I wear mine, I can't help but channel major main character energy and confidence. Maybe it's because the skirt elongates my legs. Or perhaps it's because denim piecesintrinsically have an edgy, rebellious flair. Either way, I feel like I can conquer the world when I've got my denim mini skirt on.In total contrast to that piece is my pleated pink midi skirt from a trendy fast fashion retailer. This skirt absolutely screams femininity and romance. The muted dusty rose shade is such a pretty, soft hue. And the material is a light, almost shimmery chiffon that floats and twirls with every stride I take. Romantic skirts like this were all the rage in past eras like the 1950s, but the pleated midi length helps update the vibe for a modern take.My favorite way to style the pink midi is by leaning into the ultra-feminine retro aesthetic. I love pairing it with a short sleeve sweater or a button-down blouse with ruffled or puffed sleeves. Finishing off the look with strappy heeled sandals, a dainty pendant necklace, and a satin headband or scarf gives the overall ensemble such an elegant, ladylike air. Somehow this skirt makes me feel poised, proper and polished. Like a prim and proper debutante ready to attend a soiree. But with an ever-so-slightly edgy twist thanks to the sheer fabric and shorter underpinnings I wear beneath. While the vibe is very different, I get that same confidence boost wearing this skirt as I do with my denim mini. Maybe it's because they both allow me to fully embrace my femininity incontrasting but equally powerful ways. With the mini, I'm leaning into an overt, carefree sense of sultriness. With the midi, it's a more reserved, sophisticated kind of femininity that I'm tapping into. But in both cases, I feel completely comfortable and at home in my own skin and personal style.Last but not least is my absolute favorite skirt for summertime: a flowy, bohemian style maxi skirt adorned with bright Mexican embroidery. My mom actually picked this up for me from a market on a trip to Mexico years ago. It's become my go-to piece for beach days, music festivals, you name it. The bright turquoise color is so vibrant and vivacious, instantly uplifting my mood. And the ornate floral embroidery is to die for – every inch is so intricately and artfully decorated.Because the skirt has an adjustable smocked waistband, it's super comfy to wear. The billowy, tiered fabric is lightweight and breathable too. Perfect for those sweltering summer days. The skirt's lengthy maxi cut keeps my legs entirely covered, but the flowing fabric still allows plenty of movement and breeziness. Not to mention how endlessly versatile and mix-and-matchable it is!I'll oftentimes throw the skirt on with a swimsuit top or a strappy razorback camisole for an easy beach cover-up. Or I'llpair it with a cropped peasant-style boho blouse for a fest-ready 'fit. The long, sweeping silhouette looks amazing with flat strappy sandals or even a pair of cowboy booties for a cool contrast. And then I just pile on rings, bangle bracelets, and lots of beaded jewelry to really lean into that laidback, free-spirited aesthetic.Obviously I adore all three of my favorite skirts immensely. From the retro charm of the denim mini and pink pleated midi, to the carefree wanderlust vibe of the bohemian maxi. Each skirt brings its own distinct energy, but they all make me feel beautiful, stylish, and confident in my own way. Whether I want to channel bold and edgy, or soft and feminine, or free-spirited and adventurous, my trio of go-to skirts has me covered. They're such versatile, expressive pieces that allow me to inhabit vastly different personal styles and moods as I desire. That's whythey've all become such integral parts of my wardrobe and sense of self-expression.篇3My Favorite Three SkirtsAs a fashionable young student, I have a deep love for skirts. They are versatile, stylish, and can really allow me to express mypersonality through my outfits. While I adore many skirts in my wardrobe, there are three that truly stand out as my absolute favorites. These three beloved skirts each have their own unique charm, and I'm going to compare and contrast them for you.The first skirt I want to gush about is my black denim mini skirt. This classic piece is a total wardrobe staple that I find myself reaching for time and time again. The denim material gives it a cool, edgy vibe while the mini length keeps it flirty and youthful. I live in this skirt during the warmer months, pairing it with crop tops, graphic tees, or slim tank tops. The skirt hits right at my mid-thigh, accentuating my legs in the best way possible. What really sets this denim skirt apart though is its versatility.I can easily dress it up with a silk camisole and strappy heels for a night out. But I can also keep things casual by throwing on a band tee and my beaten up old Converse for a more laidback look. The black denim goes with absolutely everything in my closet. Whether I want to look punk rock one day or more minimalistic the next, this skirt is always there for me.My second most beloved skirt could not be more different from the first - it's a romantic cream-colored lace midi skirt. This elegant piece makes me feel like a delicate fairy princess whenever I wear it. The luxurious lace fabric has the mostgorgeous and intricate floral patterns woven throughout. It sits high on my waist and falls to just below my knees in a luscious A-line shape. So dreamy!I love twirling around in this skirt and watching how beautifully it flows and moves. It's fully lined so it has this wonderful volume and structure to it. The midi length gives it a modest yet sultry feel. I personally think midi skirts are the most universally flattering skirt length. They elongate your legs while still covering enough to keep things classy. For my lace midi skirt, I really like playing into the romantic, whimsical vibe. I'll typically style it with a flowy rose printed blouse, nude lace-up flats, and some dainty jewelry pieces. But I've also edged it up before by pairing it with a vintage band tee and my beaten up Dr. Martens boots. No matter how I choose to style this skirt, it always makes me feel like a beautiful fairy-tale princess.Last but not least, my third favorite skirt is a bold, vibrant fuchsia pink midi skirt with the most amazing puffy tulle layers. I lovingly refer to this as my "hot pink puffy prom skirt." It instantly adds so much joy, glamour, and fantasy to any outfit! Whenever I'm feeling a little down or drab, throwing on this skirt is an instant mood-booster. You simply can't feel negative emotionswhile wearing such a vibrantly colorful and delightfully princessy skirt. The voluminous layers of tulle create such a fun and flouncy silhouette that I can't help but feel fierce, confident, and fabulous in this piece. I adore the way the vibrant pink color pops against my tanned skin. This skirt is definitely a head-turner and always sparks so many compliments whenever I wear it out. It has a classic high-waisted fit that flatters my hourglass figure. The midi length maintains an elegant and refined look despite how bold and whimsical the tulle fabric is.For my pink tulle skirt, I typically keep the styling simple and let the skirt itself be the star of the show. A fitted black bodysuit or camisole and some simple black pumps are all I need to let this showstopping skirt take center stage. However, I have also rocked it with an oversized vintage graphic tee and dad sneakers for a more street-style vibe. No matter how I decide to wear it though, this fabulous hot pink skirt always turns heads and puts a huge smile on my face.In conclusion, while all three of these skirts are incredibly different pieces, they each hold such a special place in my heart and wardrobe. My black denim mini allows me to channel that cool-girl aesthetic, whether dressed up or down. The cream lacemidi taps into my inner romantic and lets me live my fairy princess fantasies. Finally, the fuchsia pink tulle skirt is pure joy, confidence, and glamour bottled up into wearable form.Putting together outfits and experimenting with my personal style is one of my greatest passions as a student. These three skirts encompass all the different facets of my sartorial personality - tough yet feminine, whimsical yet chic, bold yet refined. I cherish each and every one of them for the unique energy and feeling they bring to my looks and life. Trying on clothes and creating new outfits with my favorite pieces like these skirts is a form of creative self-expression that I adore. These three skirts in particular will forever remain my most prized wardrobe heroes.。
