中秋节英语演讲三分钟
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, I am honored to stand before you and talk about a special festival in Chinese culture – the
Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival. This festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, which usually falls in September or October.
The Mid-Autumn Festival holds deep cultural significance for the Chinese people, as it represents reunions and harmony. The moon, as the main symbol of this festival, is believed to be the fullest and brightest on this day, shining on families and loved ones who may be apart. Just like the moon, families come together during this time, no matter how far apart they might be, to celebrate, appreciate, and cherish the bond of unity.
A key tradition of this festival is the sharing and consumption of mooncakes. Mooncakes are round pastries with various fillings such as lotus seed paste, red bean paste, or even salted egg yolks. These delicacies reflect the roundness of the moon and the wholeness of the family. By exchanging mooncakes with family members and friends, we show our love and care for one another. It signifies the unity and harmony we strive for as a society.
Another fascinating tradition is the admiration of the moon itself. Families gather outside, set up tables with mooncakes and tea, and enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the moonlight. Children, in particular, have great fun with lanterns of different shapes and sizes, parading them in parks or along the streets. The lanterns illuminate the darkness and create a magical atmosphere filled with joy and laughter.
Furthermore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also a time for folklore and legends. The most famous one revolves around Chang'e, the Moon Goddess. The tale tells us that she swallowed an elixir of immortality and ascended to the moon, where she resides alone. On this special night, people pray to Chang'e for good fortune, happiness, and family blessings.
Although this festival holds immense cultural importance in China, it has also gained recognition and popularity worldwide. People from different backgrounds are intrigued by its rich traditions and customs. It is truly a festival that brings people together, transcending cultural boundaries.
In conclusion, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a cherished holiday in China that symbolizes reunions, harmony, and appreciation for family. The moon, mooncakes, lanterns, and legends associated with this festival create an enchanting atmosphere that unifies people and spreads joy. Let us all take this opportunity to embrace the spirit of unity and love during this auspicious celebration.
Thank you.。
