Life in a Big City
Living in a big city has both advantages and disadvantages. In this essay, I will discuss the pros and cons of living in a big city based on my own experience.
One of the main advantages of living in a big city is the convenience it offers. There is no shortage of shopping malls, restaurants, and entertainment options. You can easily find anything you need at any time of the day. Public transport is also readily available, making it easy to get around the city. In addition, big cities often have better job opportunities and higher salaries, which can lead to a better quality of life.
However, living in a big city also has its drawbacks. Traffic congestion is a common problem, and commuting to work can be a nightmare. The cost of living is usually higher in big cities, with expensive rent and services. Furthermore, the fast-paced lifestyle can be stressful and overwhelming at times. Pollution is
also a major issue in big cities, affecting the quality of air and water.
Despite these challenges, I still enjoy living in a big city. The vibrant atmosphere and diverse culture make it an exciting place to live. There are always new things to explore and experience, from art galleries to music festivals. I have also met people from different backgrounds and made friends from all over the world.
In conclusion, living in a big city has its ups and downs. It is important to weigh the pros and cons before deciding if it is the right choice for you. Overall, I believe that the benefits of living in a big city outweigh the challenges, and I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences it has given me.

Booker T. Washington once said, "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome." This quote resonates with me as I reflect on my own journey in learning English. In the third unit of the eighth grade English textbook, we learned about famous inventors and their inventions. This topic inspired me to write a reflective essay on my own journey in learning English.
When I first started learning English, I faced many obstacles.
I struggled with pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. I often felt frustrated and discouraged, but I never gave up. I knew that learning a new language would open up many opportunities for me, so I persevered.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was improving my pronunciation. English is a language with many sounds that are not present in my native language. I spent hours practicing tongue twisters and listening to native speakers. Gradually, my pronunciation improved, and I gained more confidence in speaking English.
Another obstacle I faced was understanding grammar. English grammar is complex and has many rules and exceptions.
I studied grammar books, did exercises, and asked for help from my teachers. Slowly but surely, I began to grasp the rules of English grammar and apply them in my writing and speaking.
Vocabulary was also a challenge for me. English has a vast vocabulary, and I often felt overwhelmed by the number of words I needed to learn. I created flashcards, used mnemonic devices, and read extensively to improve my vocabulary. As I learned more words, I found that I could express myself more effectively in English.
Despite these obstacles, I persevered in my journey to learn English. I set goals for myself, sought help from teachers and classmates, and practiced daily. Over time, I saw improvement in my language skills and gained confidence in my abilities.
Looking back on my journey, I am proud of how far I have come. Learning English has opened up many opportunities for me, both academically and professionally. I am grateful for the obstacles I have overcome, as they have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person.
In conclusion, learning English has been a challenging but rewarding journey for me. I have faced many obstacles along the way, but I have persevered and grown as a result. I am excited to continue improving my English skills and exploring the world of opportunities that awaits me. As Booker T. Washington said, success is not just about the position you reach in life, but about the obstacles you overcome. I am proud of the obstacles I have overcome in learning English, and I am excited to see where this journey will take me next.

Unit 3 of the eighth grade English textbook of the People's Education Press is about "What would you do?" In this unit,
students learn how to express their opinions and make decisions in various scenarios. The main objective of this unit is to help students improve their ability to use conditional sentences and express opinions in English.
Here's a sample composition based on Unit 3B:
Title: What Would You Do?
Prompt: Imagine you are a student who found a wallet on the street. Write a story about what you would do in this situation.
I was walking home from school one day when I spotted a wallet lying on the sidewalk. Curiously, I picked it up and opened it to see what was inside. To my surprise, there was a wad of cash, several credit cards, and an ID card belonging to a man named John Smith.
As I stood there holding the wallet, I couldn't help but wonder what I should do. Should I keep the money and throw the wallet away? Or should I try to return it to its rightful owner? After a few moments of contemplation, I knew what I had to do.
I decided to take the wallet home and make some calls to see if I could find Mr. Smith. I found his contact information on his ID card and dialed the number. Luckily, he answered the
phone and was overjoyed to hear that I had found his lost wallet. We arranged to meet at a nearby coffee shop, where I returned the wallet to him.
Mr. Smith was so grateful that he offered me a reward and thanked me profusely for my honesty. I refused the reward, knowing that I had done the right thing. It felt good to know that I had made a positive impact on someone's life, and I walked away from the coffee shop with a sense of pride and satisfaction.
In conclusion, when faced with a moral dilemma, it is important to listen to your conscience and make the right decision, even if it may not be the easiest one. Being honest and doing the right thing is always worth it in the end.。
