It is popular to travel by bike in China. China has a huge population. And it is said that there is at least one bike for every two people. Of course, many people in China ride bikes for sport or exercise, but it is also a much more commonly accepted means of everyday transportation, as compared to countries such as the United States.
If you are living for a long time in China, chances are that you will want to buy your own bike so that you can use it whenever you want. Even if you don’t use a bike for everyday transportation, owning one can be a great way to enjoy the sights in the countryside. However, if you are just visiting China, renting a bike can be a more convenient choice.
It is important to choose the correct bike for your use. You will find that in China, the one-speed style of bike is popular. These bikes are great if you want to ride around in the city to see the sights. They are quite comfortable and easy to ride. You can often rent a bike for a day for about 15 dollars.
However, if you wish to ride on some of the rural paths, a mountain
bike style would be a better choice. They are great for different kinds of road surfaces, providing for a safer ride. If you are planning to have a wish to tour and still be able to carry packages with you, then a touring bike would be the best choice. These are the most expensive to rent, but are very suitable for carrying packages and even some of your luggage along with you.

When Mrs. Joseph Groeger died recently in Vienna, Austria, people asked the obvious question, “Why did she live to be 107?〞 Answers were provided by a survey conducted among 148 Viennese men and women who had reached the age of 100. Somewhat surprising was the fact that the majority had lived most of their lives in cities. In spite of the city’s image as an unhealthy place, city living often provides benefits that country living can lack. One factor seems to be important to the longevity(长寿)of those interviewed.
This factor is exercise. In the cities it is often faster to walk short distances than to wait for a bus. Even taking public transportation often requires some walking. Smaller apartment houses have no elevators( 电梯 ), and so people must climb stairs. City people can usually walk to local supermarkets. Since parking spaces are hard to find, there is often no choice but to walk.
On the other hand, those who live in the country and suburbs do not have to walk every day. In fact, the opposite is often true. To go to school, work, or almost anywhere else, they must ride in cars.

B. the cause
of Mrs. Groeger’s death
C. the longevity of people like Mrs. Groeger
D. the image of cities in general
29. The purpose of the second paragraph is to list some______.
A. benefits of walking
B. occasions (时机) for walking in city life
C. comments〔评论〕made by city people
D. problems of city living
30. People who live in the country probably do more driving than walking because_______
A. it is more convenient for them in this way
B. they don’t need the exercise
C. they never have parking problems
D. they can’t afford to take the bus
31. A conclusion that can be drawn from this passage is that_______.
A. air pollution is not serious
B. anyone can live to be 107
C. country people should move to the city
D. walking is a healthful exercise
D
Free energy is everywhere around us. There are many ways to make and collect energy from various sources like sun, wind and water. People also realize that everyday stuff can be a source of energy too. For example, riding a bike, running or just walking, etc. We simply have to change our way of thinking if we want to change the world.
So comes the idea of solar roadways. Are they the road of future? Why use roads just for driving and collecting tolls (过路费)? Why don’t we use them for collecting energy?
The US Department of Transportation recently awarded $100,000 to Solar Roadways to build the first ever Solar Road Panel. So how do these future roads work?
The Solar Road Panels will contain embedded (嵌入的) LEDs which “paint〞 the road lines from beneath to provide safer nighttime driving as well as to give drivers instant instructions such as detour (绕行) ahead. The road will be able to sense wildlife on the road and can warn drivers to “slow down〞. There will also be embedded heating elements in the surface to prevent snow and ice buildup, providing safer winter driving.
Replacing asphalt (沥青) roads and parking lots with Solar Roadway Panels will be a major step toward stopping climate change. Fully electric vehicles will be able to recharge along the roadway and in parking lots, finally making electric cars practical for long trips.
We just can’t wait to see more of these roads all over the world in the near future.
32. The first paragraph serves as a (n) _____.
A. argument
B. comment
C. explanation
D. background
33. When some animals are on the solar road, what will the road do?
A. Guide them to a safer place.
B. Remind drivers to drive slowly.
C. Frighten them away from the road.
D. Advise drivers to choose another way.
34. From the text, we can know that the Solar Road Panels can _____.
A. provide heat for drivers in winter
B. guide drivers who get lost on the highway
C. melt snow and ice soon in winter
D. help drivers see the road clearly in the sun
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. Functions of the road in the future.
B. Development of solar energy.
C. Free energy on the road.
D. Solar road of the future.

范文
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Li Hua, a senior 1 student. I am interested in your program of the educational travel posted on the Internet. I am writing to ask if you can provide me with some further information about it.
First of all, I am eager to know which cities and which universities are included in your itinerary. It will be wonderful if New York City and Harvard University are both among the places to visit. In addition, could you be kind to tell me what activities we will participate in apart from visits? Frankly speaking, what deserves my special attention is the total cost of this educational travel, airfare and accommodation included.
Thank you very much for your time and your early reply to this letter will be highly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua。
