The Big English Test for Older Kids in Guangdong
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School in Guangzhou. I love playing games, watching cartoons, and learning new things - especially in English class! My teacher Mrs. Wang is always telling us how important it is to learn English well. She says it will open up so many opportunities for us in the future.
Speaking of the future, a bunch of my older cousins and neighbors are getting really nervous and studying like crazy these days. They keep talking about this huge English exam called the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance English Test. I don't fully understand what it's for yet, but it sounds like a really big deal!
From what I've overheard, this test is a major hurdle that university students have to overcome if they want to get into a master's degree program in Guangdong province. The scores they get will play a big role in determining which schools and
programs they can apply to. No wonder everyone is stressing out!
Mrs. Wang explained to our class that this English test is designed to make sure students have really strong language skills before moving on to intense graduate-level coursework taught completely in English. It covers all the key areas like listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The test is handled by the Guangdong Provincial Education Examination Authority and universities treat the scores as a crucial benchmark.
My 18-year-old cousin Lingling has been driving my aunt crazy with all her test prep over the past few months. She's been going to special classes, working through practice exams, and listening to English audio lessons basically non-stop. Her exam is scheduled for June 15th, 2024 and she's counting down the days!
Apparently, there are two test dates scheduled in Guangdong this year - one on June 15th and another on December 14th. Lingling is taking the June test, but some of her friends are waiting until December to give themselves more time to prepare. From what I've gathered, a lot of students end up taking the test multiple times to try and improve their scores for better program admissions.
The test itself lasts for 3 hours and is divided into several sections. Mrs. Wang broke it down for us:
Writing (30 minutes): Students have to write a short essay of 300 words based on a given prompt.
Listening Comprehension (30 minutes): They listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions about what was said.
Reading Comprehension (60 minutes): Lots of reading passages followed by multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. The passages cover topics like science, culture, and current events.
Speaking (10-15 minutes): A one-on-one oral interview where the student has conversations and responds to questions from a certified English examiner.
The scoring is done on a scale of 100 total possible points. Different universities and programs have different score requirements, but Mrs. Wang said students generally need to aim for at least 70-75% to have a decent shot at getting into a well-ranked program.
I can see why everyone is taking this test so seriously! Getting a master's degree is a huge milestone in life, and this
English exam seems to be holding the keys to those academic dreams. I'm just an elementary kid, but I know when I get to be a university student, I'll definitely be hitting the books hard to prepare for my own big tests like this one day.
My advice to any students stressing over this exam? Stay calm, study smart, and believe in yourselves! If Lingling can power through all those practice tests while keeping up with her K-pop dance routine, you can conquer this English beast too! Just imagine how awesome it will feel to get that congratulatory Wechat message with your scores and uni acceptance info! The late night studying will all be worth it.
Alright, that's my two cents as a pint-sized English
expert-in-training! Wishing everyone taking the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance English Exam this year the best of luck. You've got this!

The English part of the exam is super important because it tests how well you can understand, speak, read, and write in English. You know how we learn English in school? Well, this exam checks if you've really mastered the language or if you still need to practice more.
Now, let's talk about when this exam will happen in 2024. The date has been set for Saturday, December 21st, 2024. That's right, it's going to be on a Saturday, so you won't have to miss any school days. Isn't that great?
But wait, there's more! The exam doesn't just happen on one day. It's actually divided into two parts: the written test and the oral test.
The written test is the first part, and it's scheduled for the morning of December 21st, 2024. This is when you'll have to answer questions about reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. You'll need to bring your pencils and erasers because you'll be doing a lot of writing and bubbling in answers on a special answer sheet.
After you finish the written test, you'll get a little break to rest, grab a snack, and maybe even play a quick game or two. But don't wander off too far because the oral test is happening in the afternoon!
The oral test is where you'll get to show off your English speaking skills. You might be asked to describe a picture, answer some questions, or even have a conversation with the examiner. Don't be nervous, though! Just pretend you're chatting with one of your English-speaking friends.
Now, you might be wondering, "But where do I have to go to take this exam?" Well, the good news is that there will be many different test centers set up all around Guangdong Province. That means you won't have to travel too far from your hometown to take the exam.
Your parents or teachers will help you figure out which test center is closest to you and give you all the details about where
exactly you need to go and what time you need to be there. Just make sure you listen carefully and don't be late!
Preparing for the 2024 Guangdong Provincial Postgraduate Entrance English Exam might seem like a big challenge, but don't worry! With hard work, practice, and a positive attitude, you can totally ace it.
Start by studying all the English lessons you've learned in school, practicing your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. You can also try taking some practice tests to get used to the format and timing of the exam.
And remember, even if you don't do as well as you hoped, it's not the end of the world. There will be plenty of other opportunities for you to continue learning and growing.
So, there you have it, young scholars! That's everything you need to know about the 2024 Guangdong Provincial Postgraduate Entrance English Exam. Keep studying hard, believe in yourself, and you'll do great!

2024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam - A Kid's View
Hey kids! Jessica here. I'm just a regular 4th grader, but I've got some really important news to share about a big test called the 2024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "An English test? Bor-ing!" But trust me, this one is kind of a big deal, especially for all the older kids out there looking to go to a university after high school.
You see, the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam is a really important test that a lot of high school graduates have to take if they want to get into a master's degree program at a university in Guangdong province. From what I understand, it tests how well you can read, write, listen to and speak English. The better you do on the test, the better your chances of getting into the postgrad program you want!
This year's exam is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 and Sunday, June 16th, 2024. Can you believe there are kids who will be taking a test over an entire weekend? I don't know how they'll stay focused that long. I can barely make it
through Mrs. Robinson's math tests without daydreaming about my favorite cartoons!
But this English test isn't just any old exam. It's actually made up of four different sections spread out over those two days. From what I've heard from my older sisters, it's no walk in the park either!
On the first day, June 15th, there will be two test sections. The morning will start off with the listening comprehension part of the exam. This section tests how well students can understand audio recordings in English of conversations, speeches, lectures and more. My sisters told me the recordings can be pretty fast, so you really have to concentrate. No falling asleep at your desk!
After a break for lunch (Hopefully the testing rooms have vending machines for snacks!), that same day students will move on to the written expression section. This part of the test looks at your English writing abilities. You might have to read a passage and write an essay about it, or summarize what you read in your own words. From what I've heard, having a good vocabulary and being able to structure sentences properly is crucial. Phew, no text speak allowed!
Then on Sunday, June 16th, the exam continues with another two sections. The first part of the day will be the reading
comprehension portion. This is where they test how well you can understand different kinds of English texts like articles, fiction stories, and more. My sisters said you really have to pay attention to all the details and think critically about what you're reading. No zoning out allowed!
Finally, in the afternoon, students will take the speaking section of the test. For this part, you get tested one-on-one with an evaluator. They might ask you questions and have a conversation with you completely in English to judge your pronunciation, fluency, grammar and more. No pressure or anything! My sisters said this section can be pretty
nerve-wracking. I'd probably be a stammering mess up there. Good thing I'm only in 4th grade!
Whew, after writing all that out, I'm getting stressed out just thinking about having to take such a big, important test like this Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam. I'll be honest, part of me is excited to get older and take tests that really make a difference for my future. But another part of me wants to stay a kid forever so I can just goof off and not have to worry about any major exams! Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm a teenager though.
No matter what, I have so much respect for any student tackling this English exam. Getting through all those sections
over an entire weekend is no joke! If you're one of those students, I wish you tons of luck and all the best. Study hard, get plenty of rest, and sneak in some relaxing downtime before the big days too! You've got this!
Well, that's about all I've got on the inside scoop of the 2024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam schedule and format. Let me know if you need any more tips from a fourth grader's perspective! For now, I'm going to go play outside and not worry about major tests for at least a few more years. Catch ya later!

The Big Scary Test I Can't Wait For!
Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Guangzhou with my mom, dad, and little sister Huihui. I'm writing today to tell you all about the super duper important test I'll be taking next year. It's called the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam and just thinking about it makes me sweat buckets!
I know, I know...you're probably thinking "Xiaoming, you're just a kid! Why are you worried about some crazy hard test for graduate students?" Well, let me explain. You see, my parents really want me to become a scholar when I grow up. Not just any
ol' scholar either - they expect me to get a PhD and be a professor at a famous university. Crazy, right?
Ever since I was little, they've been pushing me to study my bubbies off. Weekends are for extra tutoring sessions, not fun. Summer vacations mean intense study camps, not swimming or playing. I've pretty much had my nose stuck in books 24/7 for as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, I actually like learning and doing well in school. But the pressure my parents put on me is insane!
Anyway, the reason I need to take the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam is because it's one of the big hurdles I'll need to clear to have a shot at getting into a top university PhD program down the road. My parents say English is like the golden key that will open doors for me, so I need to master it.
The exam is no joke from what I've heard. It has listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections - all in English of course. Just listening to people describe the reading part where you have to answer crazy detailed questions about long academic passages makes me want to pull my hair out. The writing section is just as bad where you have to write essays and reports using high-level vocabulary and perfect grammar. I'm getting heart palpitations just thinking about it!
But the part that scares me the most is the speaking section. I'll have to go into a room and have an actual conversation with a test grader, all in English! What if I freeze up or my mind goes blank? What if they ask me something I don't understand? I don't want to let my parents down, but man that section sounds terrifying.
My parents have me seeing an English tutor twice a week now to get ready. Mrs. Chen is nice but she works me to the bone. We spend hours doing practice tests and speaking drills. I have to memorize long lists of academic words and practice using them in sentences. By the time the sessions are over, my brain feels like mush!
The exam is scheduled for June 22nd, 2024 which is still quite a ways off. But you better believe I'll be studying like crazy until then. My parents have it circled in big red marker on our kitchen calendar and bring it up basically every day. "Xiaoming, did you review your vocab words today? How much time did you spend on reading practice this week?" It's enough to drive me bonkers!
Part of me is really excited though. If I can ace this test, it'll be a huge step towards making my parents proud and getting into a great school in the future. I know they just want the best
for me, even if their expectations stress me out to the max. Just picturing the big smile on my dad's face if I get a high score makes me super motivated.
And can you imagine how cool it would be to be able to speak English like a pro? Not just reading and writing, but actually having conversations with people from other countries. I could make foreign friends, travel wherever I want, and not get confused by those English movies and TV shows my parents are always watching. Maybe I could even study abroad one day if I'm really really good! Think of all the opportunities it could open up.
Whew, just thinking about all that got me riled up! Thanks for listening to me ramble on about this huge exam. I'll be sure to keep you posted on my studying and let you know how it all goes. Wish me luck - I've got a whooole lot of work to do between now and June 22nd, 2024! Gambatte!

The Big Important English Test for Grown-Ups in 2024
Wow, there's going to be a huge English test next year for all the big kids who want to go to university in Guangdong province! My teacher Ms. Wang told our class all about it. She said it's
called the Guangdong Graduate English Test and it's really important for teenagers and adults.
If you want to get into a good university or college program, you have to take this test and get a high score. It's kind of like the big tests we take at the end of the school year, but it's all in English and it's just for university entrance. Crazy, right?
Ms. Wang said the test has listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections. You have to show you can understand people talking in English, read English texts, write english essays and paragraphs, and speak English out loud. Sounds really hard! I'm glad I don't have to take it yet.
The listening part has conversations, news reports, and lectures that you listen to and then answer questions about. The reading has passages from books, magazines, and websites that you read and get quizzed on. I can't imagine reading a whole book in English!
For the writing section, you have to write an essay responding to a prompt or describing an experience. You also have to read something and summarize the main points in writing. With the speaking, you get recorded answering questions and giving opinions about different topics.
Ms. Wang told us there are three test dates set for 2024 in Guangdong:
June 15, 2024
September 21, 2024
December 14, 2024
She said most students take it in June after they finish senior year of high school. But if you don't get a good score, you can take it again in September or December to try for a higher mark.
The highest score is 100 and different universities have different minimum score requirements. For example, Ms. Wang said you need at least an 80 to apply to programs at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. For other schools it might be lower, like a 70 or 75.
Every test location has a registration deadline too, usually 1-2 months before the test date. You can't just show up, you have to sign up ahead of time and pay the test fee, which I think is around 200 RMB.
There are test prep books, practice tests, and tutors to help get ready. Ms. Wang showed us a practice reading passage and I could barely understand any of it! The vocabulary was so
advanced. I felt bad for the ninth grade students in our class who have to start prepping for it soon.
Apparently there are testing centers all over Guangdong - cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan and more. On test day, you have to bring your admission ticket and ID card. Then you sit in a big room with hundreds of other test takers and go through each section.
It lasts almost 3 hours from start to finish! I can't imagine taking a test that long, especially having to write essays and speak English out loud. My hand would definitely cramp up from all that writing.
After the test, you get a score report mailed to you or posted online. Then you submit your scores to the universities you're applying to as part of your application. The higher your English score, the better your chances of getting into a top program.
This Guangdong Graduate English Test sounds crazy difficult. I'm just glad I'm still in elementary school and have years before I need to start worrying about it! Kudos to all the high schoolers out there working hard to master English for this important test. I'll be cheering you on...from far, far away!。
