My Awesome Holiday Trip to Haikou
Holidays are the best time of the year for kids like me! No more school, no more homework, just fun and relaxation. This year, my parents surprised me and my little brother with a trip to Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province. I had never been there before, but I had heard that it's a amazing place for a beach vacation. I was super excited!
We took an early morning flight from our hometown and after a couple of hours, we finally landed in Haikou. As soon as we stepped out of the airport, I could feel the warm, tropical air hit my face. It was so different from the chilly weather back home.
I couldn't wait to put on my new swimsuit and play in the ocean!
The first stop was our hotel, which was right on the beach. We had a wonderful room with a big balcony overlooking the sea. The view was just breathtaking - the turquoise waters seemed to stretch out forever, meeting the bright blue sky. I could already picture myself swimming and building sandcastles.
After settling in, we quickly changed into our beach clothes and headed down to the sand. The beach was long and wide, with soft golden sand that felt amazing between my toes. There were lots of other families enjoying the sun and water too. My brother and I immediately ran towards the waves, laughing and splashing each other playfully. The water was nice and warm, like a huge bathtub. We spent hours swimming, boogie boarding, and hunting for colorful seashells along the shoreline.
In the evenings, we would walk along the beachfront promenade, which had tons of little shops, restaurants, and street food stalls. There were so many delicious local snacks to try - fresh coconuts, barbecued seafood skewers, mango smoothies, and my favorite, a sticky rice cake wrapped in banana leaves. The whole area was beautifully lit up with colorful lanterns that made it feel magical.
One day, we went on a boat tour of the nearby islands. Our guide took us snorkeling at a few different coral reef spots. Underneath the clear blue waters, I was amazed by all the vibrant marine life - schools of tropical fish in every color, swaying plants, and even a few sea turtles! It was like being in an underwater fantasyland. We also stopped at a little fishing village built over
the water on stilts. The friendly locals showed us how they farm pearls and let us sample some just-caught seafood.
Another fun experience was visiting the Haikou Wildlife Park. We got to see all kinds of amazing animals like golden monkeys, giant pandas, flamingos, and even a white bengal tiger! My little brother's favorite was probably the cheeky monkey exhibit where the monkeys would climb all over you if you had food. We also went on a safari truck ride through the elephant and rhino enclosures. Those huge animals were just inches away from us! In the evening, there was an awesome bird show where exotic birds like parrots and hawks would fly loops right over our heads.
Before we knew it, our week in Haikou was over and it was time to go home. I was really sad to leave behind the warm sunshine, sandy beaches, and island adventures. But I made so many wonderful memories that I'll never forget. I'll always treasure the little seashell necklace I made, the vibrant photos I took while snorkeling, and the big teddy bear I bought at the wildlife park's gift shop. Haikou was an amazing place for a holiday and I really hope my family and I can go back again someday. Maybe next time, we can even learn to surf or see the jungle waterfalls inland! This was the best school break ever.

My Awesome Vacation in Haikou
Last winter break, my family and I went on the best trip ever to Haikou, which is the capital city of Hainan Province in southern China. Hainan is a beautiful tropical island and we had so much fun exploring all the amazing sights and trying delicious new foods. I'm going to tell you all about our incredible Haikou vacation!
We took a plane from our city to Haikou and I was so excited looking out the window as we flew over the bright blue ocean. When we arrived at the airport, it was warm and sunny, not cold like back home. Our hotel was right on the beach and had a huge swimming pool shaped like a giant seashell. My little brother and I could barely contain our excitement to go swimming!
The very first evening, we walked along the sandy beach and stuck our toes in the warm ocean water. The horizon seemed to stretch out forever where the sky met the sea. We watched the sun slowly sink into the water, making the whole sky turn shades of pink, purple and orange. It was the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen.
The next morning, we visited one of Haikou's oldest neighborhoods called Guoxing Avenue. The streets were lined with grand banyan trees covered in vines and air potatoes
dangling down. There were little shops selling souvenirs, clothes, artwork and my favorite - delicious street food! We tried so many yummy snacks like grilled squid, stinky tofu, coconut milk and sugarcane juice. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful.
After eating our way through Guoxing Avenue, we went to Holiday Beach which had the whitest, finest sand I've ever seen. It felt like walking on pure powder! The water was this incredible shade of turquoise that seemed almost unreal. We spent the whole day swimming, building sandcastles, and searching for unique seashells. I found a huge conch shell that I could hold up to my ear and hear the ocean's roar.
One day we took a boat tour out to Nanwan Monkey Island which is home to over 2,000 wild monkeys! As soon as we stepped off the boat, a whole troupe of them came right up to us looking for snacks. They were so funny and cute, climbing all over people's shoulders and heads. We had to be careful though because some of them would try to steal food right out of your hands!
Another highlight was visiting Haikou's massive Wugong Temple. It's one of the largest Buddhist temples in China with giant golden statues and the most ornate architecture covered in carvings of dragons and phoenixes. We got to watch the monks
doing their daily ceremonies of chanting, lighting incense and ringing bells. The whole experience was very peaceful and mystical.
Towards the end of our stay, Mom and Dad surprised us with a visit to Hainan Ocean Mangrove Ecological Park. A tour guide took us through the forest on wooden boardwalks elevated above the swamps and mangrove trees. We saw so many exotic plants and spotted tons of wild birds like herons, egrets and even a sneaky water monitor lizard! The mangrove tree tunnels were incredibly cool with their twisted, gnarled branches forming natural arches above us.
Our Haikou vacation was truly the trip of a lifetime. In just one week we experienced bustling city streets, quiet ancient temples, isolated tropical beaches and lush mangrove jungles. We ate the most mouth-watering foods, saw fascinating wildlife up close, and created endless happy memories together as a family. I will never forget the incredible beauty of Hainan Island and all the fun we had exploring it. I can't wait to go back to Haikou again someday!

My Amazing Holiday Trip to Haikou
Wow, what an incredible holiday break I just had! My family and I went to Haikou, which is the capital city of Hainan Province in southern China. Hainan is actually an island, so we took a flight there from Beijing. I was so excited for this trip because I had never been to a tropical place like Hainan before.
The first thing I noticed when we arrived was how hot and humid it was compared to Beijing. But it felt like a nice change from the cold winter we have up north. Our hotel was right on the beach, so we could see the beautiful blue ocean right from our room! I couldn't wait to go swimming.
On our first full day, we went to the Haikou Volcanic Cluster Global Geopark. This is a really cool place with lots of different volcanic rock formations. Our tour guide told us that the rocks were formed over 13 million years ago from volcanic eruptions. We hiked up to the top of one of the volcanic cones called Reservoir Park Crater and the view from up there was breathtaking. You could see the whole city of Haikou below.
The next day, we visited Evergreen Park, which has this amazing artificial beach called Holiday Beach. The sand was perfectly white and soft, and the water was so clear and warm for swimming. I spent hours splashing in the waves and building sandcastles. My little sister loved searching for pretty seashells
along the beach. After swimming, we walked through the shady park areas and saw all kinds of tropical plants and flowers I had never seen before, like flame trees, hibiscus, and bougainvillea. Such vibrant colors!
One of my favorite experiences was taking a boat tour through the Haikou Wenlding Mangrove Nature Reserve. Mangrove forests are incredible – the tangled roots of the mangrove trees stick up out of the water and provide homes for so many marine creatures like fish, crabs, and birds. Our tour guide used a long pole to push our little boat silently through the narrow mangrove channels. We spotted some adorable little mudskippers hopping across the mud and even saw a sneaky sea snake swimming in the murky water! The mangrove reserve felt like a secret, magical world.
Mom and Dad also took us to explore the city of Haikou itself. We wandered through the local markets and I tried lots of delicious Hainanese snacks like coconut chicken, luchi buns, and sugarcane juice. The smells from all the street food stalls were mouthwatering. We also checked out some ancient temples like the Guanyin Buddhist Temple and the ornate Haikou Ancestral Temple. It was fascinating learning about the history and culture.
One evening, we took a night cruise along the Haikou Bay to see the incredible skyline all lit up. The colorful lights reflecting on the water were so pretty. I'll never forget the giant façade of the Hainan Intellectual Center building – it looks like a giant glowing sphere at night! We also got to watch a cool outdoor fountain show with jets of water choreographed to music and lights.
On our last day, we spent the whole day just relaxing on the beach and swimming in the warm ocean. I loved floating on my back and staring up at the bright blue sky and puffy white clouds. The beach had lots of fun activities too – we went banana boating, built a huge sandcastle, and played beach volleyball. I didn't want the day to end!
By the time we had to leave Haikou, I felt so sad to be going home. Part of me wished we could have stayed longer. The tropical island paradise of Hainan was such an amazing place, so different from my usual city life in Beijing. I'll always remember the stunning beaches, incredible nature areas, fascinating culture, and delicious food.
I feel so lucky that my parents took us on this awesome holiday trip. It was an experience I'll never forget. I learned so much and made wonderful family memories. Visiting Haikou
opened my eyes to a completely new part of China that I can't wait to explore more in the future. I'm already dreaming about our next fun family adventure!。
