One day, my good friend asked me “why do you want to be an English major? What will you do with it and is it necessary to you? ”After that, I asked myself “do I really need it? What will do in the future?”The result is: I really need it and I will be an English teacher.
As we all know, with the development of the economy，culture and trade between china and other countries, we all have much more communication with each other as import ,export many kinds of goods to promote ourselves. Meanwhile, English, as the most popular language in the world, so its importance in the modern days is undisputed. However, to quite a few people, whether they need studying English have become a question which often be discussed. According to the figures ,70℅people think we need English to live, study and do some oth er interesting things . They like singing English songs and foreign stars. One of them said “now, the population of foreigner is over 593,832 in china. If we Chinese all don’t know English, we all don’t study any foreign language, how do we communicate with them? How can we improve our economy and how terrible is it! ” On the contrary, some others who are in old age don’t agree with them. What they feel is the foreign language, especially
English, is so hard for them to write, let alone speak. In addition, nowadays ，most of people around us are Chinese, so we can work, live and do anything we want to do without English. They said English is not needful in our life and they don’t like English at all.”And for me, a Chinese college student of 21century, I choose to learn English not just owing to impulse, but because I like English and the English is one of the most necessary skills in the modern society. Moreover, English is the ladder of success. When we graduated from college, we had to find job to raise ourselves. Otherwise, English may make us excellent than other job hunters. In other words, if we can speak English fluently and know it well, we will have much more opportunities to find a better and higher scholar job. What’s more, English, an international language have been known everywhere in the world. It has played a significant role in our life, and its function is helpful to our success. Now, I’m a college student, and after two years, I will be a teacher, of course, an English teacher. On the one hand, language is a bridge which can widen our horizons and be benefit to know each other. If I’m an English teacher, I think, first, I will let my students like English because interest is the best teacher. Second, knowing the significance of the English also is indispensable to the development of students’ intelligence. On the other hand, learning English, even foreign language, is a successful step to know
the culture of other countries. Furthermore, except that introducing our long history and culture to foreigners, knowing them also is a good thing, isn’t it? Promoting the quality of our people has been considered a necessary task. How to improve ourselves ？There is no doubt that enriching technical ability, expanding our knowledge, opening our eyes are the good choices. As the saying goes, two heads are always better than one. Therefore, we should learn English well so as to learn from others better and better.
