Task 1.
The bar chart shows the percentage of people in different age groups who used the Internet in the year 2000 and 2010.
In 2000, it is clear that the younger generations were more likely to use the Internet. For the 16 24 age group, about 70% of them were Internet users. This percentage dropped significantly as the age increased. For the 25 44 age group, only around 40% were using the Internet. And for the 45 54 age group, it was a meager 15% or so. The eldest group, 55 and over, had the lowest percentage, which was less than 10%.
Fast forward to 2010, we can see a huge change. The percentage of Internet users in all age groups increased. The 16 24 age group still had the highest proportion, but it had risen to nearly 100%. The 25 44 age group saw a significant jump to about 80%. The 45 54 age group also had a remarkable increase, reaching around 60%. Even the 55 and over age group had a much better showing, with about 40% of them using the Internet.
Overall, it is obvious that the use of the Internet became much more widespread over the ten year period, and the gap between the younger and older users decreased, although the younger age groups still had a higher percentage of Internet usage.
Task 2.
Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. Well, I kind of see where they're coming from.
On one hand, having a plethora of choices can be really overwhelming. Just think about going to a supermarket. There are aisles and aisles of
different cereals. Do you want the one with nuts, the one with dried fruits, the one with chocolate chips, or the plain one? It's like a cereal jungle out there. And when it comes to choosing a career, there are so many
options these days. You could be a software developer, a social media marketer, a yoga instructor, or a zookeeper. It's enough to make your head spin. With so many choices, we often waste a lot of time just making a decision. And sometimes, we end up making the wrong choice because we're so confused.
On the other hand, having lots of choices also means more freedom and opportunities. If you're into fashion, there are countless styles to choose from. You can be a hip hop fashionista, a preppy dresser, or go for a bohemian look. This allows us to express our individuality better. In the field of education, there are various courses and degrees available. You
can study something really niche like underwater archaeology if that's your passion. It gives us the chance to pursue our dreams in a way that might
not have been possible before.
In my opinion, while too many choices can be a bit of a headache at times, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. We should learn to manage these choices better. For example, we can set some criteria or priorities before making a decision. Instead of being paralyzed by all the options, we can embrace them and make the best out of this world full of choices. After all, having choices is better than having none at all, right? It's like having a big box of chocolates sure, it's hard to decide which one to pick, but it's still a delicious problem to have.。
