Are people less happy or more happy when they get older? If you choose the latter, then you are right. According to a study published recently, people generally become happier and experience less worry after age fifty. In fact, it found that by the age of eighty-five, people are happier with their life than they were at eighteen.
The findings came from a Gallup survey(盖洛普民意测验)in the United States. Arthur Stone led the study. His team found that levels of stress are highest among adults between the ages of 22 and 25. Stress levels drop sharply after people reach their fifties. Happiness is highest among those in their early seventies. But the people least likely to report feeling negative emotions are those in their eighties.
The survey also found that men and women have similar emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness and worry than men did. The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed or being single. But they found that influences like these do not affect the levels of happiness.
So why does happiness increase with age? One theory is that as people get older, they become more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
Happiness is not the only thing that apparently improves with age. In a study published this year, people reported that they felt their sleep quality improved as they got older.
56. What does the passage mainly discuss?
A. Happiness is related to people's career.
B. The older people get, the happier they feel.
C. People will have no worry as they get old.
D. The quality of people's sleep depends on their age.
57. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Stress of adults is the same as that of the old.
B. Men have different emotional patterns compared with women.
C. Women are more stressed and sadder than men.
D. Being single influences people's level of happiness.
58. If you are getting older. you are likely to
A. be grateful to your parents for what you have
B. control your feelings when you have problems
C. pay no attention to your bad experiences in life
D. offer help to someone in trouble
B
The gentle giants of our oceans are whale sharks. It's the biggest shark and can reach as long as 41.5 feet, and these amazing creatures are not only the biggest sharks. they are also the biggest fish of any kind.
Whale sharks have a lifespan(寿命)of 70 years on average, and they spend their days gently swimming in the warm and tropical oceans.
Their teeth are the size of match heads, and while their jaws could be powerful, they have never tended to attack humans. Their teeth play no role in eating, as plankton(浮游生物)does not need to be chewed. They are to be found in numbers in the warmer oceans and they prefer the deep waters of the open oceans.
Several times a year they gather together in certain spots where plankton is plentiful. Those areas are all within a 30°north or south latitude (纬度) from equator. Sadly, whale sharks are targeted by commercial fisheries at those spots.
How easy it must for the fishermen to catch those beautiful creatures who can only swim at 3.5 miles per hour! So great a loss have they suffered that whale sharks are now listed as one of the endangered species. Measures have been taken by some countries to protect the whale shark from extinction(灭绝).
The Philippines and India have all banned the fishing. selling. importing and exporting of whale sharks for commercial purposes. However, the law does not seem to be effective because the hunting and killing are still going on today. especiallyin the Philippines. Each whale shark can fetch around $21,000. In parts of Asia they are known as the “money shark”.
The mighty dollar wins again at great cost to our habitat, we will not know what we have lost until we have lost it forever.
59. Which of the following about whale sharks is NOT true?
A. They usually live a life of 70 years on average.

Are you starting to get bored with the monotony(单调) of life? Do you find something funny that helps get you through every day? That is what I have been going through for quite some time now. But that was only until I discovered the power of a good joke.
There are so many times when you find yourself laughing at a good joke told by one of your family members or friends. Indeed, a good joke will surely brighten your day. But you can't always be with the people you love and they won't always have an endless supply of new jokes to share with you.
Wouldn't it be nice if you had an endless supply of jokes that you can read, enjoy, and laugh about every day? The good news is that there are many sources for good jokes. The more traditional method would be to buy joke books. But these will cost you money and there is no assurance that most of the jokes contained in a certain book will be really funny.
That is why the Internet would be the best source of good jokes. There are thousands of websites on which you can have fun reading jokes. And you will not have to pay a single cent in order to enjoy these. All you need to do is to log on a couple of joke sites you especially like. Then you can read the jokes.
Trust me, this will work in brightening up your day. A good joke will help you get out of a bad mood and will make you more energetic and lively. If you memorize a couple of these jokes, you can share them with your loved ones as well. So share some joy and laughter you get foamy.

Having a dental fear(牙科恐惧症)is a common problem. Learning to overcome your fear of the dentist is possible with a little determination(决心)and guidance. It is worthwhile to overcome the issue as healthy teeth might help you be healthy physically and spiritually.
Admission
Admitting you have a fear is the first step in overcoming dental fear. When you acknowledge your fear, you can start the process. Dentistry has come a long way over the years. The anesthetics(麻醉)are improved, the techniques are of higher quality and dental offices have a better understanding of these issues you are concerned and all these can help you overcome it.
Research
Speak to family and friends about your fear. Be open and honest about your issues and get feedback from them regarding their dental experiences. You can contact your local Dental Society and express your concerns. Another good approach is to simply call dental offices and get useful information from the front office staff.
First visit
Most dental offices schedule your first visit by a dental assistant. This gives you a chance to ease into the situation. Do not hesitate to express your fear and hesitation. Pay attention to what the assistant says. It can be very useful and it can gently guide you to a new attitude towards dentists.
Relaxation techniques
There are many things you can do to relax yourself. Slow, steady, deep breathes are keys to relax properly. Another aid in relaxation is to bring your iPod to play some relaxing music while you are in the dental chair. Music is a wonderful tool to use and is a helpful distraction(分散注意力的事物).
Facing your fear and making the first dental appointment are necessary for your health. Ignoring your dental health because of your fear will only worsen the issues and cause you to have serious dental problems.

书面表达(满分25分)
There are more and more disabled people begging along the street, who lead a hard life. Therefore, we should care for them, like accepting, helping them and giving them warmth.
The treatment for disabled people should go like this: First, accept them. Don’t be afraid of looking at the terrible shape of disabled. Try to treat them equally. Because they are a part of the society,we can’t abandon them. The second is to help them as much as we can. If you can be a volunteer and do some work for the disabled people, that would be very nice. That does good not only to disabled people but also to yourself, because you will feel good after your kind action.
So give an air of warmth to disabled people, and the world would be much better.
