My School's Awesome Sports and Activities!
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I love my school so much - we have the best teachers, really nice kids, and lots of fun activities to do! Today I want to tell you all about the different sports and physical activities we get to enjoy at my school. Get ready, because there's a ton of awesome stuff going on!
First up, let me tell you about P.E. class. We have P.E. twice a week with Mr. Roberts, who is honestly the coolest P.E. teacher ever. He always gets us playing the most fun games like dodgeball, capture the flag, and my personal favorite, battleball. Battleball is kind of like dodgeball but with these really big, soft balls that are super bouncy. We split into teams and try to knock the other team's players out by hitting them with the balls. It gets pretty intense but in a really fun way! Mr. Roberts makes sure we all follow the rules and take turns so nobody feels left out.
In addition to P.E., we also have recess twice a day - once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The playground at our school is massive, with swings, jungle gyms, basketball courts, and a huge field area. During recess, we can play whatever games we want, like four square, kickball, or just run around chasing each other. Sometimes, we'll divide into teams and have running races or do relay competitions. When it's nice out, the teachers will often join in too which is really fun.
Our school also has some awesome after-school sports programs that you can join. In the fall, there's a co-ed soccer club that practices twice a week. They have games against other elementary schools in our district which is really cool. During the winter, we have a basketball club that a bunch of my friends do. The basketball teams are split into boys and girls though. Then in the spring, there's softball for the girls and baseball for the boys. My friend Timmy is on the baseball team and he's an awesome pitcher!
In addition to those after-school sport clubs, we also have the opportunity to try some other physical activities. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning before school, there's a running club that meets up to run laps around the school track. My best friend Lily does that and she says it's a great way to wake up and
get energized for the day. There's also a tennis club that meets on Saturdays where you can learn how to play tennis from a couple of parent volunteers.
Another thing I should mention is that every month, we have Fitness Fun Friday! On those days during our P.E. period, we get to try out a new fitness activity or workout instead of playing regular P.E. games. So far this year, we've done yoga, zumba, aerobics, and even tried some kickboxing which was awesome. My favorite was definitely the hip hop dance workout though - I loved learning all the cool moves! Fitness Fun Fridays are a great way to shake things up and expose us to different ways of staying in shape.
Outside of the organized sports and activities, there's also just tons of opportunities during free play to run around and get exercise. At recess, you'll always see groups playing tag, having running races, or making up their own running games. My friends and I have one we call "snake" where one person is the snake and has to try to catch the rest of us as we run around the field. Whenever the snake tags someone, that person becomes part of the snake too and has to hold hands/link arms to try and catch more people. It's a total blast!
Phew, I could honestly go on and on about all the amazing physical activities we get to do at my school. The teachers and staff clearly make it a huge priority to keep us kids active, healthy, and having fun while exercising. Whether it's through P.E., recess, after-school clubs, or special events like Fitness Fun Fridays, there's no shortage of ways to stay moving.
Getting regular physical activity and exercise is so important, especially for kids. It helps us stay fit, have more energy, build strong muscles and bones, and even improves our focus and performance at school. Plus, being active is just really fun! I always sleep so well on the nights after a really active day at school.
I feel really lucky that my school puts such an emphasis on sports, games, and fitness. The activities they provide give me an opportunity to try all sorts of new things and find active hobbies that I'm passionate about. Who knows, maybe I'll end up sticking with soccer, basketball, or even tennis for years to come! Or perhaps I'll find a new favorite workout from one of our Fitness Fun Fridays. The options seem endless.
I'd encourage all of my fellow students to take full advantage of the amazing programs our school offers. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and give a new sport or activity a
shot - you might end up loving it! And for the kids at schools without as many options, keep bugging your teachers and principals for more P.E. time, recess, clubs, and fun ways to get moving. Being physically active is so good for you and it's a ton of fun.
Well, that's all I've got for you today friends! I need to go run a few laps around the house before dinner. Getting my body moving always helps me work up an appetite. Let me know if you have any other questions about the awesome athletics happening at my school. Catch ya later!

A Day Asking About Sports at My School
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm a fourth grader at Oakwood Elementary School. Today was a really fun and interesting day because I got to go around and ask lots of kids at my school about the sports they play and how much they like being active. My teacher, Mrs. Roberts, assigned us a project to learn more about physical fitness and exercise. She said it would be a great way for us to practice our interviewing skills too.
I started off by interviewing some of the kids in my class during our lunch period. My friend Michael was the first person I
talked to. He told me that his favorite sport is baseball and he plays on a local little league team in the spring and summer. He said baseball is lots of fun because you get to run around the bases and catch fly balls in the outfield. Michael also does running club after school sometimes to stay in shape for baseball season.
Next, I interviewed Sarah, who sits in the desk next to me. Sarah doesn't play any team sports, but she does take gymnastics classes twice a week. She showed me some cool backbends and cartwheels that she has learned. Sarah said gymnastics is great exercise and helps her build strength, balance, and flexibility. She said her favorite gymnastics event is the balance beam.
After talking to my classmates, I went over to the kindergarten hallway to interview some of the younger kids. A kindergarten boy named Tommy told me that he takes soccer lessons on Saturdays. He learned how to dribble the ball and do fancy footwork moves. Tommy said soccer is lots of running so it's a good way to get exercise. He also said he likes playing goalie and trying to block shots on the goal.
In the first grade hallway, I met a girl named Lily who does dance classes. She takes tap, ballet, and jazz lessons a few times
per week. Lily said dance is her favorite physical activity because it combines stretching, choreography, and music. She loves putting together routines and learning all the cool steps. Lily did a few dance moves to show me what she had learned.
At recess, I saw a group of third graders playing basketball on the blacktop. I interviewed a boy named Jackson who said basketball was the best sport ever. He told me he likes dribbling the ball up and down the court and trying to score baskets. Jackson also said it was fun to play defense and try to steal the ball from the other team. He said one of the best parts was being able to run around a lot to get good exercise.
I also got to interview some fifth graders, who were the oldest kids at my school. A fifth grade girl named Emily told me that she is on the school's track and field team. She explained that track and field includes running events like sprints and distance races, as well as field events like long jump and shot put. Emily said her favorite is the 400 meter dash because it's a good mix of speed and endurance. She also does the long jump and really likes the thrill of leaping through the air as far as she can.
The last person I interviewed was a fifth grade boy named Aiden. He takes martial arts lessons a few times per week. Aiden studies karate and learned all about blocks, strikes, kicks, and
self-defense moves. He said martial arts is great exercise because it works on strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular fitness all at the same time. Aiden did a really cool karate kata (series of moves) to show me what he had learned.
After talking to all those kids, I could see that there are so many fun ways to stay active and fit through sports and physical activities. Team sports like baseball, soccer, and basketball are awesome for making friends, learning skills, and getting lots of running and exercise. Individual activities like gymnastics, dance, track, and martial arts are also amazing for building athletic abilities and overall fitness.
I had a blast going around interviewing my schoolmates about their favorite ways to play and work out. It was really interesting to learn about all the different sports and activities kids enjoy. I could definitely tell that being physically active makes kids happy, confident, and healthy. We are so lucky at Oakwood Elementary to have great programs, facilities, and teachers who make it fun for kids to embrace an active lifestyle.
In my opinion, the most important thing is to find a sport or activity that you are excited about and motivated to keep doing. If you enjoy it and have a positive attitude, exercise won't feel like a chore at all. It will be something you look forward to and
have a great time doing. I hope that after this project, more kids at my school will feel inspired to get out there and get moving. There are so many awesome ways to play, exercise, and take care of our bodies. I know I'm going to keep participating in the activities I love and also try out some new sports that sound like fun. Let's go play!

What Sports Do Kids Play at My School?
Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm a 10-year-old student at Oak Grove Elementary School. Our school really likes for us kids to be active and play sports. I thought I'd tell you all about the different sports and activities we have at my school.
One of the biggest sports at my school is basketball. We have basketball teams for boys and girls, and the teams compete against other elementary schools in our city league. The basketball season is in the winter time. We have basketball courts outdoors and in the gym too.
Try-outs for the teams are really tough! You have to be able to dribble the ball well, shoot baskets accurately, and work together with your teammates. The coaches put us through lots
of drills to test our skills. Only the best players get picked for the teams. I made it onto the girls' team this year and I'm so excited!
My friend Marcus is on the boys' basketball team. He's an awesome shooter and can make three-pointers from really far away. When Marcus gets the ball, everyone knows he's probably going to score. At our last game, he scored 20 points all by himself! The crowd goes wild whenever Marcus gets the ball.
In the fall season, our big sport is soccer. Soccer is probably the most popular after-school sport at my school. We have fields out behind the school building where we play. There are soccer teams for different ages like 8-and-under, 10-and-under, all the way up to 12-and-under.
On the soccer teams, you get to learn skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and positioning. It's so much fun playing actual games against the other school teams. Personally, I'm not the best soccer player, but I still love being part of the team and getting to play.
Every spring, our school has a big track and field day. This is where we get to compete in all different running events like sprints, relays, and distance races. There are also field events like long jump, high jump, and throwing things. Kids get very competitive about track and train really hard to get fast times.
The fastest kids at our school are these twin brothers named Jaden and Jordan. They are both amazing sprinters. At our last track day, Jaden won the 100 meter dash and Jordan took first in the 200 meters. Sometimes I wonder if they were just born to be super speedy!
In my opinion, the most fun events are the goofy relay races we do. One is where you and your teammates have to put on oversized pants, shirt, and shoes and then race that way. We all end up tripping over the huge clothes and cracking up laughing. Another relay has us carrying eggs on spoons and if you drop it, you're out. Egg always ends up everywhere!
Our school also has clubs focused on different sports. There's a gymnastics club where they practice tumbling, handsprings, and balance beam routines. The gymnastics team gets to compete against other schools too.
We even have clubs for fun sports you might not expect at school. For example, there's a jump rope club where they do all kinds of amazing jump roping tricks and routines. Whenever I see the jump ropers performing their routines, I'm amazed at how talented they are.
Another unique club is our skateboarding club. They get to practice skating ramps and doing jump tricks out on the school
parking lot. I've never been that interested in skateboarding, but I have to admit those kids are really cool!
During our regular physical education or PE classes, we play all kinds of games and sports too. Things like kickball, dodgeball, capture the flag, and my personal favorite - prison ball. No matter what game we're playing, you can count on there being lots of running around and having a blast.
Sometimes in PE we'll spend a few weeks focusing on learning the rules and skills of a particular sport. We might do volleyball for a while, practicing sets, spikes, and serves. Or we'll work on fundamentals of sports like baseball/softball, tennis, badminton, and more.
Even at recess, kids are constantly running around playing sports pick-up games. The basketball and tetherball courts are always occupied. You'll see groups playing football, frisbee, or just having running rams. Recess is like a break from the classroom to just play hard.
As you can probably tell, there's no shortage of sports and activities to get involved with at my elementary school. The coaches and teachers really want us to be fit and active while also learning teamwork and good sportsmanship.
I feel very lucky because lots of schools nowadays don't have as many sports programs due to budget cuts. At Oak Grove, we have so many amazing opportunities to play the sports we love. We just have to be willing to work hard and put in the practice it takes to get better.
Whether you're into basketball, soccer, track, gymnastics, or any other sport - there's something for everyone at my school. Sports help us stay physically healthy while also being just plain fun. I know I've made so many great friends and memories from being part of the sports teams here. Let's play!。
