Basketball, soccer, badminton and table tennis are common sports in China. But have you ever heard of kabaddi (卡巴迪)? It is an Indian sport that is becoming popular around the world.
On Oct 22, 2016, the Kabaddi World Cup finished in India between 12 countries including the United States, Australia, Iran, Poland, Argentina and Kenya.
Kabaddi is a sport that is much like chasing (追赶). There are two teams, each with seven players. Each team takes turns sending a “raider (袭击者)” into their opponent’s half (对手的半场). The raider earns points by touching them and making it back to safety in their half.
The opposition earns points if they tackle (拦截) the raider once one of their players is
touched. To make it more difficult, the raider is not allowed to take a breath when in the opponent’s half. To prove he isn’t breathing, the raider shouted “kabaddi” until back into safety.
India has won every Kabaddi World Cup. China got to see it for the first time at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing. International Kabaddi Federation president Janardan Singh Gehlot said they wanted to take the sport to the Olympics.
“We already took kabaddi to Asia, but now we want to take it to the Olympics. We want people to play kabaddi all across the world,” he said.

One morning a boy went home with his father. They noticed a pair of old shoes by the roadside. They thought the shoes might be a poor man’s. In fact, the owner of the shoes was working in the field nearby, and he had nearly finished his work.
