Then suddenly the little girl stopped crying, stepped hack and began to sing. She sang so
softly that it was almost a whisper. It was the sweetest sound the woman had ever heard almost like the song of a very small bird.
After the child stopped singing she explained to the lady: "My mommy used that song to me before she went away, and she made me promise to sing it whenever I started crying and it would make me stop."
"See," she said, "it did, and now my eyes are dry!"

Roby Burch's early morning ride to school takes him on a winding (弯曲的) path through quiet streets. Bicyclists turn their heads, surprised at the sight; drivers slow down for a better look; and people come out of their houses to take his picture.
Burch, a 16-year-old student at the Haverford School, has been riding Jet to and from school since last month.
"It's a nice way to start the day he says as he saddles up Jet. It's 6 am, hours before the

"Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country." It's a famous quote from US president John F. Kennedy's speech in 1961.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the social networking site Facebook, must agree with Kennedy. The 26-year-old American recently donated (捐赠) $100 million (670 million yuan) to the public schools in New Jersey, US.
Who is this young billionaire? How did he make his fortune?
Six years ago. Zuckerberg was a computer geek at Harvard University. As a second-year student, he set up a website lo put the "lace books" - photos of incoming first-year students --online.
The website, where people were able to share personal information, was an instant success.
Zuckerberg first opened Facebook to high school students and then to everyone. Greetings such as "Have you checked your Facebook page today?" and "Do your "friends* know what you
ate for breakfast?" became a part of American life. Now Facebook is the most popular site in the world with 500 million users. If Facebook were a country, it would be the world's third largest.
"1 could have never imagined all of the ways people would use Facebook when we were getting started six years ago," Zuckerberg wrote in a recent blog.
Zuckerberg's dream is to make the Internet a more connected place. That mission(任务)could become profitable (有利润的) for Facebook: The more people share information about them online, the more money Facebook will make selling advertising. Zuckerberg is already worth $6.9 billion, according to Forbes.
Yet the billionaire keeps his own life out of the public eye. At the company, it's said that he sits among a sea of desks like hundreds of workers. A visitor to Facebook might not even spot Zuckerberg in T-shirt and jeans. He usually takes one two-week vacation each year with his girlfriend. You are probably familiar with the saying: An apple a day keeps the doctor away. A piece of recent research carried out by the Chinese University of Hongkong may change the saying: An
apple a day may keep aging away.
The research focused on fruit flies, as they share many genes(基因)with humans. The fruit flies were either fed normally or had an apple extract (浓缩物) added to their diet.
It turned out that those given apple extract lived an average of 55 days - five days longer than the flies that were normally fed. The research group also found it easier for the flies to walk, climb and move about as they aged, the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry reports.
Based on the result, the researchers believed that the antioxidants (抗氧化剂) in the apple extract helped clean up dangerous chemicals that cause illnesses, as well as aging.
In another study, researchers examined diets of thousands of women. They discovered that those who regularly ate apples were 20 percent less likely to suffer heart attacks and strokes.
The apple's genetic code (遗传密码) was discovered recently. It allows scientists to develop more tasty and healthier fruits. Researchers are already using the information to grow red-fleshed apples full of antioxidants that can keep eyes and joints healthy and guard against heart disease and cancer.
Apples that kill the desire (欲望) to eat could also be produced, with the first "extra-healthy" apples on supermarket shelves within just four to five years.
The team that tracks W;'M) apple DNA is made up of 100 scientists from five countries. Their research also suggests that around 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs began to die off, the plant which would finally become today's apple tree, experienced a great genetic change. The number of many of its genes doubled. The extra genes allowed the apple to adapt to(适应) worse conditions and go through a different evolution (进化) from peaches, strawberries and other related fruits.
63. Fruit flies were chosen for the research because they___.

D. share so many genes with humans
64. How can eating apples "keep aging away"?
A. Apples contain an element that kills aged cells.
B. Antioxidants in apples kill chemicals that cause aging.
C. The genetic code prevents apples from aging.
D. Apples produce chemicals that allow people to stay young.
65. When dinosaurs began to die off 65 million years ago,___
A. apple genes had greatly improved
B. apple plants stopped their evolution
C. all the genes in apples had doubled
D. apples had a similar evolution to other fruits
66. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A. Normally-fed fruit flies live as long as 50 days.
B. Apples can help to fight against many other diseases besides aging.
C. Apples share almost the same genes with peaches and other related fruits.
D. People can't get apples with extra genes in supermarkets in 4 or 5 years.

The Internet is convenient (方便的) but it has its dangers too. People, organizations and even nations could be attacked over it.
Last week, the US held an exercise named Cyber Storm III. It was the third such exercise. Thirteer countries, six US departments and 60 companies took part. It copied almost every kind of cyber attack to test the government's computer systems.
"Basically (从跟本上说), our whole superpower status (地位)as the US depends on computers,"
said Sami Saydjari, head of the Cyber Defense Agency, a US information security(安全company.
"We lose them; we lose our status as a superpower. We become a Third World country overnight."
The cyber warfare (战争) against nations first became a problem in Estonia in 2007 and in Georgia in 2008.
China has also had to deal with cyber attacks. Last year, the Ministry of Defense website was attacked more than 2 million times.
In recent months, there has been talk of a possible military (军事) attack on Iran's nuclear facilities (核设施). But it seems Iran has suffered an attack in another form: Stuxnet. Stuxnet is a computer worm(电脑蠕虫病毒)that can take over industrial ( 工业) systems. It was found in the computers at Iran's nuclear facilities.
Over the last two weeks, Stuxnet has attacked at least 30,000 Windows PCs in the country, Iranian officials say. They include computers used by workers at the Iranian nuclear Facilities.
It's hard to know how much damage Stuxnet has done. But the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi, said last week that the Busheh r plant’ s( 工厂) operation would be on hold for two months. Some experts see this as a clear sign that Stuxnet has done a lot of damage.
"Stuxnet may have cost somewhere between 5 and 10 million dollars." says a German computer expert.
“I think that this is the turning point, this is the time when we got to a really new world, because in the past there were just cyber criminals (罪犯), now I am afraid it is the time of cyber terrorism (恐怖主义), cyber weapons and cyber wars," said Eugene Kaspersky, co-founder and CEO of Kaspersky, an antivirus company.
