Step Ⅰ Greetings
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step Ⅱ Revision
T:In the last period,we revised the Subjunctive Mood.Can you use it freely? Ss:Yes.
T:Well,let’s do an exercise.Look at the screen and finish the exercise in three minutes.Then I’ll check your answers.
(Teacher shows the screen and the students begin their work quickly.) Correct mistakes if any.

T:In this unit,we’ve talked a lot about health care and society.It is known to us that the government has made great efforts to improve health care.However,there are some persons who have also made great contributions to health care.Do you know what kinds of person they are?
Ss:It must be doctors,nurses,chemists and medicine scientists.
T:You are right.For example,in 1928,a young Scottish scientist discovered a chemical that was very effective in curing infections.Do you know who he was?
Ss:Alexander Fleming.
T:What did he call the chemical?
Ss:Penicillin.
T:Yes.It was Fleming’s great discovery that changed hospitals and health care for ever.Thanks to his discovery,many lives have been saved.Today,we are going to read a passage about Alexander Fleming and his discovery penicillin.First,let’s learn the new words in it.
(Teacher shows the following on the screen and deals with the new words as usual.)

T:OK.Now,please open your books at Page 79.Read the passage The Little Mould

Every doctor,
I’m very glad to t ell you that I have discovered a new chemical,a mould growing on the culture of some harmful kind of bacteria.It is a natural mould that is easy to grow and use.More importantly,the mould seems to be able to
kill the bacteria.I examined it carefully and found out it belonged to a strain of penicillin which could kill off bacteria while not causing any damage to wounds.It worked against many kinds of ter,a series of experiments proved my finds,and therefore,I called it penicillin,which could cure infections by killing bacteria and was mostly safe for the human body.As a result,the existence of penicillin would make hospitals much more safer.I wish the discovery of the mould could be useful to treat diseases that had been considered incurable.If really so,I would feel very delighted.
