Some personal characteristics play an important role in the development of one’s intelligence. But people fail to realize the importance of training these factors in young people.
The so-called ‘non-intelligence factors’ include 36 feelings, will, motivation, interests and habits. After a 30-year follow-up study of 8000 males, American psychologists 37 that the main cause of disparities in intelligence is not intelligence 38, but non-intelligence factors including the desire to learn , will power and self-confidence .
39 people all know that one should have definite objectives , a strong will and good learning habits, quite a number of teachers and parents don’t pay much attention to 40 these factors .
Some parents are greatly worried 41 their children fail to do well in their studies. They
blame genetic factors, malnutrition, or laziness, but they never take 42 consideration these non-intelligence factors. At the same time, some t eachers don’t inquire into these, as reasons 43 students do poorly. They simply give them more courses and exercises, or 44 criticize or laugh at them. After all, these students lose self-confidence. Some of them just feel defeated and 45 themselves up as hopeless. Others may go astray(走上歧途)because they are sick of learning. 46investigation of more than 1,000 middle school students in Shanghai showed that 11.5 percent of them were 47 of learning , because of examinations , 1.4 percent lacked persistence , initiative and consciousness and 10.3 per cent were sick of learning .
It is clear 48 the lack of cultivation (培养)of non-intelligence factors has been a main 49to intelligence development in teenagers. It even causes an imbalance between physiological and 50 development among a few students.
If we don’t start now to 51 the cultivation of non-intelligence factors, it will not only affect the development of the 52of teenagers, but also affect the quality of a whole generation. Some experts have put forward 53about how to cultivate students’ non-intelligence factors.
First, parents and teachers should 54understand teenage psychology. On this basis, they can help them to pursue the objectives of learning, 55 their interests and toughening their willpower.

Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our interpersonal relationships .One strength of the human condition is our possibility to give and receive support from one another under stressful conditions .Social support makes up
of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties .Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to deal with major life changes and daily problems. People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over types of illnesses, from depression to heart disease, show that the presence of social support helps people defend themselves against illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.
Social support cushions stress in a number of ways .First, friends, relatives and co-workers may let us know that they value us .Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others in spite of our faults and difficulties. Second, other people often provide us with informational support .They help us to define and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third, we typically find social companionship supportive. Taking part in free-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same time distracting (转移注意力)us from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support—money aid, material resources, and needed services—that reduces stress by helping us resolve and deal with our problems.
60. Interpersonal relationships are important because they can .
A. make people live more easily
B. smooth away daily problems
C. deal with life changes
D. cure types of illnesses
61. The researches show that people’s physical and mental health.

B. has much to do with the amount of support they get from others

_71 Premier Wen Jiabao acted exactly that way when he kept his cool during the shoe-throwing incident at Cambridge University.
It happened on the last day of his week-long official trip to Europe in early February, when Wen was delivering a speech at the university.
A German student, Martin Jahnke , interrupted Wen Jiabao’s speech . _72. Pausing for a few seconds, Wen Jiabao calmly told the audience that the incident would do nothing to hold back the friendship of the Chinese and British people.
Wen later posted a notice on the government website asking British officials to pardon Jahnke. 73. He believes education is the best path to a young man.
The Pr emier’s response to the incident says a lot about our country and culture. 74 The student’s words and actions showed his lack of knowledge about China, as the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Fu Ying , pointed out .By asking the university to forgive Jahnke, the premier showed his tolerance toward people ,who did silly things without thought.
This incident has upset many Chinese people. However, some cool –minded people think that we Chinese should not be anxious about those who misunderstand China. 75. We can always rely on the words of Confucius to deal with men and things: “I will not be afflicted (折磨)by men not knowing me ; I will be afflicted that I do not know men .”(不患人之不己知,患不知人也)
A. Wen hoped the university would give Jahnke an opportunity to continue his studies.
B. As the old saying goes, we must be patient with trouble.
C. Wen’s forgiveness reflects traditional Chinese values on how to treat people who are
ignorant or angry.
D. Confucius teaches us to stay calm when faced with trouble .

We set up our tents on the sandy beach, and when night fall we started a fire to give us light and kept us warm. All the classmates sat around them, talking, singing and laughing. Several hours late, Robert and I went back the tent to have a chat. We stayed up all night. We found that we two had a lot of in common. This autumn, my class went to New York to go the camping. We arrived at a sandy beach with a well view of the sea and mountains. We set up our tents on the sandy beach, and when night fell we started a fire to give us light and kept us warm. All the classmates sat around them, talking, singing and laughing. Several hours late, Robert and I went back the tent to have a chat. We stayed up all night. We found that we two had a lot of in common. For example, we all like the same singers and have great enthusiasm with physics. The fire and stars saw our happiness. What I wished time would stop at that moment!

About 50 students from America will come to our school for a visit on October 4th, Sunday. Our class is asked to take charge of reception. We will meet at the school gate at 8:40 am, wearing school uniforms and give them a warm welcome. They will arrive at 9:00 am, and then we will show the American students around the schoolyard, the lab building, the teaching building and students’ dormitories. There will be a friendly basketball game on the playground at 10:00. They will leave the school at 11:00. We should be polite to our guests and talk with them in English.
That’s all. Thank you.。
