Bored with your life? Dreaming of something different? I always wonder what life would be like400 kmabove my head. That's where the International Space Station orbits the earth, with six astronauts living and working on board, for months at a time.
How do they sleep? They spend the night floating in a sleeping bag inside a small cubicle (小隔间) on the ceiling. American astronaut Sunita Williams explains, “It's like a little phone booth, but it's pretty comfortable and it doesn't matter if I turn overand sleep upside down. I don't have any sensation (感觉) in my head that tells me I'm upside down.”
Brushing your teeth in a place where you can't have a tap or a sink can be a challenge. Can you imagine the mess that running water would make in zero gravity? Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield uses a straw to put a big blob of water from a sealed bag onto an ordinary toothbrush and adds a little toothpaste which he has to swallow when he's done.
Daily exercise is essential. The lack of gravity makes bones more fragile and muscles lose strength — so astronauts are encouraged to work out for at least two hours a day.
The role of astronauts in the International Space Station is to act as lab technicians for scientists back on earth. So they spend their time maintaining their environment and performing and monitoring experiments in a confined space about the size of a Boeing 747. Almost every task is carefully planned by mission control — although most astronauts spend their first days losing things until they get used to sticking everything they use to the walls with Velcro, duct tape (强力胶带) or clips (夹子).
One of their most valued perks (额外待遇) is the view from “the office”, dominated by that gigantic blue ball down there, sitting in the darkness of space. Wow! Absolutely breathtaking!

A. they don't feel it
B. they sleep in the daytime
C. they sleep in special sleeping bags
D. they are trained to adapt to the conditions of weightlessness

3. What is the passage mainly about?

B. Living and Working in Space.
C. How to Become an Astronaut.
D. The International Space Station.

By mid-century there will likely be 9 billion people on the planet, using ever more resources and leading ever more technologically complex lives. What will our cities be like? How much will artificialintelligence (AI) advance? Will global warming cause disastrous changes, or will we be able to engineer our way out of the climate change issues? Recently, the magazineBig Thinkasked top minds from a variety of fields to weigh in on what the future holds 40 years from now. The result is as follows.
It's likely that by 2050 the majority of the people in the world will live in urban areas and will have a much higher average age than people today. Cities theorist Richard thinks urbanization will transform the education system of, making our economy less houses driven and removing the divisions between home and work.
And rapidly advancing technology will continue ever more rapidly. Cities of the future won't look like “some sort of science-fiction fantasy”, but it's likely that technological advances and information overlays (VR and AR) will greatly change how we live. Self-driving cars will make the roads safer and provide faster transports. A larger version of driverless cars-driverless trucks — may make long-distance drivers out of date.
Some long view predictions are completelydire. Environmentalist Bill says that if we don't make great
progress in fighting global warming, it's likely we could see out-of- control rises in sea levels, huge crop shortfalls and wars over limited freshwater resources.
In terms of how we will eat, green markets founder and “real food" supporter Nina believes that there will be more small milk processing plants and more regional food operations and we'll be healthier as a result.New York Timeswriter Mark thinks that people will eat fewer processed foods and eat foods grown closer to where they live. And more people will be aware of the ethical responsibility" to grow foods.

B. Land-raised farm systems will be improved.
C. There will be smaller regional food operations,
D. Food supplies will become much more limited.
D
How much do consumers care about the carbon footprint of the products they buy? Would they care more if the goods were labeled with emissions(排放物)data?Does it matter at which stage in the lifecycle of a product the carbon is emitted? Research published in the International Journal of Environmental Policy and Decision Making offers a way to find out.
Study participants view a carbon footprint label as similar to labels that have appeared on some existing products. The label shows the carbon dioxide emissions connected with their production, transportation, usage and disposal(清理), thus showing the buyer the likely effect on climate change of buying a particular product. In the first group of studies, the research team proved that carbon emissions and a carbon emissions label
would indeed play a role in consumer product decisions, although not as great a role as price. In a second set of studies, the team found that emissions connected with usage were most important to consumers followed by the transportation and disposal stages. The carbon footprint of the producing process was considered less important to consumers than the other stages in the product's lifecycle because it is outside the consumer's control. That is, the participants felt they were less responsible for carbon emitted during producing process.Consumers value recycling a product, but the researchers found that, overall, the consumers would preferproducers to offset(补偿)carbon emissions rather than having toaddressthe problem directly themselves.
Consumers are increasingly concerned with climate change problems, and already carbon labeling is appearing on some products."We find that participantsnot only take the carbon label into account when making product decisions, but they want detailed information on the label," the researchers explain. They suggest that companies should prepare for how carbon emissions labels might affect future consumer choice.
12. Which of the following most affects consumer's choice?
A. Labels.
B. Price.
C Packaging. D. Carbon footprint.
13. About the carbon dioxide emissions in the product's lifecycle, which stage do consumers care most?
A. Usage stage.
B. Transportation stage.
C. Disposal stage.
D. Producing stage.
14. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word "address"?
A. Look into.
B. Point out.
C. Deal with.
D. Run into.
15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Companies should take carbonemissions more seriously.

Keeping curious kids from disrupting wildlife
Interacting with the wild, naturally curious kids tend to collect seashells at the beach or keep small wildlife as pets.____16____So how to help kids protect the wild while enjoying spending time outsides? Here are
alternatives for some of the most common outdoor behavior no-nos.
Take an interest, not things. Kids show interest in picking flowers, rocks, or shells outdoors. They’re part of wildlife's habitat and play an important role.____17____Let kids explore with a magnifying glass (放大镜)instead of their curious fingers. Let whatever they find outside stay outside.
____18____It seems a fun idea to throw pieces of bread to ducks. Animals have unique dietary needs that are different from humans. Eating human food can make them sick or become dependent on human food. Bears are an example of animals that often have to be killed after developing a taste for human food.
Admire animal afar, not disrupt nearby. The urge to take a photo with a squirrel, bird, or slow-moving turtle can be strong for kids.____19____Instead, remind kids to stay away and show them how to use a camera's zoom button, or just admire with their eyes.
Take well-worn paths, not off-road romps (嬉戏). Kicking piles of leaves, stepping on bushes, and walking through forested areas can unintentionally scare wildlife. If surprised animals defend their homes, everyone could get hurt. Nobody likes having a guest come in and destroy their home and act rudely.____20____
A. Keep snacks away from animals.
B. Share food if animals are hungry.
C. Exposure to them develops kids’ love and curiosity.
D. The same rule applies to visiting wildlife in their homes.
E. Animals rely on plants for hiding; rocks and shells, for homes.
F. Approaching animals disrupts what they do for survival, such as eating.
G. Despite innocent purposes, kids’ curiosity accidentally damages the wild.
