but one by one they had turned up on his doorstep, and Leon had taken them in.
Every day, after feeding the cats, Leon would collect the mail from the red postboxes in the village and take it home to sort(分类). “If only I had 37 helpers instead of 37 cats, my job would be so much easier,” Leon thought. Just then, the cats started meowing for their dinner. That gave Leon an idea. That night, Leon stayed up making 37 cat-sized postal backpacks. Each backpack fitted neatly onto a cat’s back. Then, he went around to each postbox, putting signs up that read: Postbox closed. Please use the Postal Cat Service.
The next day, Leon put a backpack on each cat and dropped off the cats around the village. Leon knew that the cats would be happy lazing around all day. He also knew that they would always come home for dinner. Leon spent the day relaxing, waiting for his helpers to return. Leon was right. The cats did return, but they did not bring home many letters. Somehow, the cats had managed to wriggle(蜿蜒而行)out of their backpacks. Or lose their letters. 16、Our children and grandchildren may not have a chance to visit many of the most famous places around the world. War, weather, age, traffic and pollution damage (破坏) these famous places. If we do nothing, they may even no longer remain. But looking after these places often costs more than one country can afford.
In the early 1970s, world governments decided that if they joined together, they would be able to preserve (保护) our history. If every country paid some money, they said, it would be possible to look after important historic places. For this reason, countries around the world united to form the World Heritage Organization in 1972. Today, the organization helps to protect and rebuild the most important places from our history.
However, one of the biggest problems for historic places is vandalism. That is to say, people sometimes enter these places and damage the buildings. At some places, such as Stonehenge in England, governments have built high fences to protect it from vandals.
There are many different ideas about how to solve the problem of vandalism. Some professors say that if guards keep walking around these places, vandals won’t be able to get in. Some professors say that if they fix more television cameras, they won’t need so many guards. Others say that the best way is education. If people learn to respect history, they won’t damage it. They will also want to spend money looking after old places. For this reason, the World Heritage Organization helps to spread information about the value of historic places.

19、Believe Myself, and I will win
Hello, everyone! As an old saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way. There always are difficulties in our life and we have to face them.
When I was in the seventh grade, I always had difficulty in learning English. I just couldn’t understand it. I even wanted to give it up. Then my parents told me that where there is a will, there is a way. They also told me that I should be confident. My English teacher encouraged me to continue to study and told me some good ways to study it. I had the confidence again. I found when I put my heart into it, English didn’t’ seem that difficu lt. I made great progress. My parents and teachers were happy for me. I felt pleased and proud for myself, too.
To be confident means I should believe myself. Believe myself, there are hopes in my life. In the future, I won't be afraid of the difficulties in my life and I'm sure that nothing can beat me and I will win! Believe myself, a beautiful future is waiting for me.
