One part always stands out. “Right now, you are pretending to be a time-killer. But I know that one day, you will do something great that will set you among the very best.” Knowing that my dad believed in me gave me permission to believe in myself. “You will do something great.” He didn’t know what that would be, and neither did I, but at times in my l ife when I’ve felt proud of myself. I remember his words and wish he were here so I could ask, “Is this what you were talking about, Dad? Should I keep going?”A long way from 12 now, I realize he would have been proud when I made any progress. Lately, though, I’ve come to believe he’d want me to move on to what comes next: to be proud of, and believ e in somebody else. It’s time to start writing my own letters to my children. Our children look to us with the same unanswered question we had. Our kids don’t hold back because they’re afraid to fail. They’re only afraid of failing us. They don’t worry abo ut being disappointed. Their fear-as mine was until my father’s letter-is of being a disappointment. Give your children permission to succeed. They’re waiting for you to believe in them.I always knew my parents loved me. But trust me: That belief will be more complete, that love will be more real, and their belief in themselves will be greater if you write the words on their hearts:“Don’t worry; you’ll do something great.” Nothaving that blessing from their parents may be the only thing holding them back.1.We learn from the text that the author ________.A.lost his father when he was youngB.worked hard before he read his father’s letterC.asked his father’s permission to believe in himselfD.knew exactly what great thing his father wanted him to do2.What does the author tell us in the 3rd paragraph?A.Children need their parents’ letters.B.Children are afraid to be disappointed.C.His children’s fear of failure held them back.D.His father’s letter removed his fear of failing his parents.3.Which of the following is TRUE?A.He got no access to success.B.He wrote back to his father at 12.C.He was sure his parents loved him.D.He once asked his father about the letter.【语篇解读】这是一篇记叙文。

They judge you by your appearance, attitude(态度)and manners.A friendly smile when you walk into the room is important. A smile shows a confident(自信的)and positive attitude. When you introduce yourself, make eye contact with the interviewer. Some interviewers offer a handshake. Others don’t.Try to be as natural as possible. But pay attention to your body language. The way you sit, walk, gesture, use your voice and show feelings on your face is all part of your body language. It makes the interviewer know how you feel about yourself and the situation you are in. Are you feeling positively about yourself? Your abilities? Your interest in the job?Speak clearly and loudly enough. Show interest and enthusiasm in your voice. When youspeak, look at the interviewer. Also, don’t say negative things about yourself,or former employer.Listen to questions carefully. If you don’t underst and a question, ask the interviewer to repeat or explain:“I’m sorry, but I didn’t catch that.”“I’m not sure exactly what you mean.”Almost everyone is nervous in a job interview. Interviewers know that. They don’t expect you to be totally calm and relaxed. But they expect you to try to control your nervousness. They expect you to show confidence in your ability to do the job.At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for her or his time. It’s a good idea to send a short thank-you letter right after the interview,or deliver it by hand.Phone the company if you have not heard anything after one week. Ask if they have made a decision about the job.Good luck!51. It can be inferred from the passage that __ ____.A. you should always put on a smile when meeting the employerB. you should stand still with respect before the employerC. the first impression is very important in an interviewD. employers understand and like employees’ nervousness52. Why should we pay attention to our body language?A. Because it can help us win the employer’s positive impression.B. Because it can help us feel about the employer.C. Because it is needed by our employer.D. Because we need it to improve our feelings.53. The main purpose of the passage is _ _____.A. to give you some advice on the art of finding a jobB. to tell right from wrong about job interviewsC. to explain why we should do something about an interviewD. to suggest not being shy in an interview54. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A. A Friendly SmileB. Making a Good ExpressionC. Don’t Be NervousD. Sending a Thank-You LetterBAbout six years ago I was eating lunch in a restaurant in New York City when a woman and a young boy sat down at the next table, I couldn’t help overhearing parts of their conversation. At one point the woman asked, “So, how have you been?” And the boy — who could not have been more than seven or eight years old —replied. “Frankly, I’ve been feeling a little depressed lately.”This incident stuck in my mind because it confirmed (确认) my growing belief that children are changing. As far as I can remember, my friends and I didn’t find out we were “depressed”, that is, in low spirits, until we were in high school.Undoubtedly a change in children has increased steadily in recent years. Children don’t seem childlike anymore. Children speak more like adults, dress more like adults and behave more like adults than they used to.Whether this is good or bad is difficult to say, but it certainly is different. Childhood as it once was no longer exists. Why?Human development is depended not only on born biological states, but also on patterns of gaining social knowledge. Movement from one social role to another usually involves learning the secrets of the new social positions. Children have always been taught adult secrets, but slowly and in stages; traditionally, we tell sixth graders things we keep hidden from fifth graders. In the last 30 years, however, a secret-revelation (揭示) machine has been equipped in 98 percent of American homes. It is called television. Television passes information to all viewers alike, whether they are children or adults. Unable to resist the temptation (诱惑) , many children turn their attention from printed texts to the less challenging, more attractive moving pictures.Communication through print, as a matter of fact, allows for a great deal of control over the social information which children will gain. Children must read simple books before they can read complex materials.55.According to the author, feeling depressed is ________.A.a sure sign of a mental problem in a childB.a mental state present in all humans, including childrenC.something that cannot be avoided in children’s mental developmentD.something hardly to be expected in a young child56.Traditionally, a child is supposed to learn about the adult world _________.A.through connection with societyB.gradually and under guidanceC.naturally without being taughtD.through watching television57.According to the author, that today’s children seem adultlike results from ______.A.the widespread influence of televisionB.the poor arrangement of teaching contentC.the fast pace of human scientific developmentD.the rising standard of living58.What does the author think of communication through print for children?A.It enables children to gain more social information.B.It develops children’s interest in reading and writing.C.It helps children to read and write well.D.It can control what children are to learn.CChinese are very generous (慷慨) when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States or Australia. They also want their children to take extra-course activities where they will either learn a musical instrument or ballet(芭蕾舞), or other classes that will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter. However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education they can give their children is usually very cheap.Parents can see that their children’s skills vary, skilled in some areas while poor in others. Whatmost parents fail to realize though, is that today’s children lack self-respect and self-confidence (自信).The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take multiple-choice tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and clever.Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework.Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of self-confidence.Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse(唤起)his interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.59. Parents in China, according to this passage, _______.A. are too strict with their childrenB. are too rich to educate their childrenC.have some problems in educating their children correctlyD. are too poor to educate their children60. The writer of the passage does not seem to be satisfied with ______.A. the parents’ ideas of educating their childrenB. the education systemC. children’s skillsD. children’s hobbies61. Doing some cooking at home helps children ______.A. learn how to serve their parentsB. learn how to become strong and fatC. benefit from it and prepare themselves for the futureD. make their parents believe that they are clever62. According to the last paragraph we can conclude that ______.A. broken radios and television sets are usefulB. one’s curiosity may be useful for his later lifeC. an engineer must fix many broken radiosD. a good student should spend much time repairing radiosDShanghai: Car rentals (出租)are becoming more and more popular as an inexpensive way of taking to roads. 高中英语学习材料madeofjingetieji模块综合测评(二)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)A【导学号:80512057】Jenny Lind was born in Stockholm Sweden, in 1820, the daughter of a teacher of languages. She is said to have been able to repeat a song that she had heard only once at the age of three. At ten years of age she sang children's parts on the Stockholm stage. After turning 12 years of age, her upper notes (高音) lost their sweetness, and for four years she did not do much singing. Her love for music continued and these years were spent on the study of instrumental music and composition. At the end of this period her voice got its power and purity (纯净) again and for a year and a half she was the star of the Stockholm Opera. Next, she gave a series of concerts and went to Paris for further study, but the French teacher did not appreciate her powers and Jenny returned to her native city. When she was twentythree years old, Jenny went to Dresden and when Queen Victoria visited that city the following year, she sang at the festivals held in the Queen's honor. This opened the way to astonishing success in other German cities. In 1847 she went to London and was warmly received. There she sang for the first time in concert.Jenny Lind traveled to Paris to study with Manuel Garcia, a famous Spanish vocal (声乐) coach, who finally agreed to train her. Her husband, Otto Goldschmidt, was a famous German pianist who trained with Mendelssohn; they married in Boston while on tour in the US.After her marriage, she appeared on the stage from time to time, usually at concerts given for charities. She was deeply interested in charities and we can easily add to her title (头衔) of singer that of philanthropist. Her later years were spent in London where she died in 1887. Her life and songs are a sweet memory.【语篇解读】珍妮·林德三岁的时候就表现出非凡的音乐天赋,10岁时就登上了斯德哥尔摩的舞台。

However, you can also find many weather signs among wildlife, because of their highly developed senses. Drops in air pressure (压力) produce an effect on small animals in many ways. Mice and deer are good weather indicators.People who spend a lot of time outdoors have observed that, before a storm, field mice come out of their holes and run around.Deer leave high ground and come down from the mountains.Birds are especially good weather indicators because they also show the effect of a pressure drop in many ways. For example, some birds become irritable(急躁的) and quarrelsome and will fight over a piece of bread.Other birds chirp (叽叽喳喳) and sing just before a storm. It seems that they know they won't get another chance for an hour or two.Birds also seek safe places before a storm. You will sometimes see birds settling in trees or gathering together on a wire close to a building. Pre-storm low pressure makes the air so thin that birds have difficulty flying. It is unusual to see many birds flying overhead in the summertime, rather than during the periods in the spring or autumn. Watch for other weather signs if you see this.If they fly in the wrong direction, they may be flying ahead of a storm.By paying closer attention to some important signs in nature,we can become better prepared for any kind of weather.44.The word “indicators” in Paragraph 1 probably means________.A.maps B.servicesC.signs D.stations45.There will be a storm if birds________.A.make more noise than usualB.fly in different directionsC.come down from tall treesD.share a piece of bread46.How can birds sense the coming of a storm?A.By feeling a drop in air temperature.B.By noticing the change of wind directions.C.By feeling a drop in air pressure.D.By noticing the movements of other animals.47.The BEST title for the text would be________.A.Signs of a Storm B.Drops in Air PressureC.Animals' Sharp Senses D.Nature's Weather SignsDDo you enjoy reading? Do you read newspapers or magazines? Chances are, if you do any of these activities, your pre-school child is on his way to becoming a reader. The process of learning to read is complex, and one of the most important things to know is that parents can help their children learn to read.As children have conversations with adults, they hear both new and familiar words and their vocabulary grows. There are many opportunities for adults and children to talk together, such as when riding in the car or in a bus, doing housework like fixing dinner,or bathing and getting ready for bed. A major part of conversation is listening. When children talk, adults listen and respond. Then children listen and respond, and so the flow of conversation happens.Have you watched your pre-school child pretend to read to his younger sisters or brothers? Have you read his favorite story over and over? These experiences tell children that reading is fun.And when things are fun and they are repeated, your child will see letters. He begins to connect them to familiar words, especially the letters that make up his name.A natural next step for him to take is to write the letters. When children see parents make a grocery list, they want to use a pencil and paper to make their own list. To encourage these beginning writing activities, have pencils, markers, crayons and scrap paper within your children's reach. The more children get connected with talking, listening, reading and writing, the easier it is for them to become active readers. While you as a parent have a big influence on these early behaviors, it is important to remember that opportunities for literacy experiences happen when you and your child share in the basic routines(日常生活) of everyday life.48.The third paragraph tell us that parents can talk with their children________.A.during daily routinesB.only in quiet placesC.in their spare timeD.when they are eager to talk49.During the process of learning to read, children may ________.A.copy the action of the adultsB.prefer to talk with those of their own ageC.show no interest in reading at allD.waste a lot of paper and other materials50.When do children want to learn to write?A.When their parents ask them to do so.B.When they believe they can write well.C.When they know what they want to know.D.When they can connect letters with familiar words.51.The passage is written to________.A.talk about parents' influence on their children's behaviorB.encourage parents to set a good example to their childrenC.advise parents to make reading a part of their children's daily lifeD.make parents believe in the importance of early readingEMy family was driving across Canada to Montreal. Before that time, large computers were only used by large, rich companies that could afford the investment. With the advancement of technology, small computers have come onto the market, which are capable of doing the work that used to be done by much larger and expensive computers, so now most smaller companies can use them. The main development in small computers has been in the field of word processors(处理器),or WPS as they are often called. 40%of British offices are now estimated to have word processors and this percentage is growing fast. There are many advantages in using a word processor for both the secretary and the manager. The secretary is free from a lot of daily work, such as re-typing letters and storing papers. He or she can use this time to do other more interesting work for the boss. From a manager's point of view, secretarial time is being made better use of and money can be saved by doing daily jobsautomatically outside office hours. But is it all good?If a lot of daily secretarial work can be done automatically, surely this will mean that fewer secretaries will be needed.Another worry is the increasing medical problems related to work with visual display units(显示器).The case of a slow loss of sight among people using word processors seems to have risen greatly. It is also feared that if a woman works at a VDU for long hours, the unborn child in her body might be killed.Safety screens to put over a VDU have been invented but few companies in England bother to buy them.Whatever the arguments for and against word processors, they are a key feature(特征)of the revolution in office practice.small computers:▲56.____ larger and expensive computers▲most smaller 57.____ can use themsmall computers have been 58.____ in the fieldof word processors,or WPSadvantages 59.____▲The secretary:●is free from a lot of 60.____ work●does other more interesting work for the boss▲The boss/manager:●secretarial time can be made better 61.____ of●62.____ can be saved by doing daily jobs▲63.____will lose their jobs automatically outside office hours.▲medical problems related to work with visualdisplay units●many people will lose 64.____ slowly●the unborn child in its mother's 65.____ mightbe killedⅤ.

80512057】Jenny Lind was born in Stockholm Sweden, in 1820, the daughter of a teacher of languages.

【答案】 ABToday almost everyone knows computers and the Internet. If I ask you “What is the most important in your life?”maybe you will say “Computers and the Internet.” The first computer was made in 1946. It was very big but it worked slowly. Today computers are getting smaller and smaller. But they work faster and faster. What can computers do? A writer has said, “People can't live without computers today.”The Internet came a little later than computers. It is about twenty-five years later than computers. But now it can be found almost everywhere. We can use it to read books, write letters, do shopping, play games or make friends. Many students like the Internet very much. They often go into the Internet as soon as they are free. They make friends on the Internet and maybe they have never seen these friends. They don't know their real names, ages and even sex(性别). They ar e so interested in making the “unreal friends” that they can't put their hearts into study. Many of them can't catch up with others on many subjects because of that.We can use computers and the Internet to learn more about the world. But at the same time,we should remember that not all the things can be done by computers and the Internet.5.The Internet can not be used for .A.studying B.shoppingC.thinking D.playing【解析】细节推断题。
