Unit 6 Topic 2 Section B
Ⅰ. Teaching aims:
Listening and getting the key information
Using vocabulary or pictures to describe thing,behavior and feature
Understanding the theme of the passage;
Understanding the meaning of vocabulary in some particular situations
Communicating and cooperating with others;
Ⅱ.Second, Analysis of the teaching material
In Section A,we have known that Kangkang’s friend Dareen will explore Beijing.In Section B, Kangkang and Dareen talk about the directions of great buildings in Tian’an men Square,they will go there. Section C is the travelling experience to the Tian’an men Square. Section A and B are the foundation of Section C .
Ⅲ.Third,Analysis of Student Background:
They are active and highly-motivate. Tian’an man square is familiar to the students.It’s not strange for them.but they don’t know the English names of buildings.They have learned word:south. But they don’t know how to read other directions. They don’t know how to describe the area,length and width.
Ⅳ.Fourth,Teaching objects: We have three teaching objects to achieve.
*Knowledge objects:
1. Listen and read new words:north, east ,west, republic, monument, chairman, memorial, can’t wait to,
2.Listen and read new sentence structures:It covers ... How far ...? *Ability objects: develop and improve their listening, speaking
*Moral objects:
1.Stimulate the students’ love for their hometown.To learn about Tian’anmen Square ,to learn about Putian, to learn about Chinese Culture
2.Students enjoy helping others, and they are glad to introduce their hometown to others.
Ⅴ.Fifth, Teaching and learning approaches: (Teaching approaches)
1.Task-based approach(Students should be aware of their job before taking action) Communicative approach (English is a tool,It’s for communication)
2.Audio lingual approach ( Make the class lively and interesting.)
3.Situational Language Teaching ( Put them in real situation and they can feel the language,feel the English. )
4.Multi-media assistant teaching method( Make the class lively and interesting.) (Learning approaches)
5. Imitating (It is a basic way for students to learn language )
6.Cooperative learning method (work in groups to finish the task) In teaching procedures.I’ll interpret these approaches in detail.
Ⅵ.Teaching procedures:
Ⅰ. Lead- in
Step 1:Enjoy an English song about directions to attract and arouse the students’ interest. And teach the new words about directions.
Step 2:Introduce the traveling frog and play a game with the frog. In the game, the students should
try their best to speak out the directions as quickly as they can.(consolidate the the names the directions.)
Ⅱ. Presentation
Step1:travel with the frog to present the following sentences
Step 2: discuss how to use “in”, “on” and “to”. Students are encouraged to find out the rules. (cultivate students’observation ability and summarizing capability)
Step 3:travel with the frog to practice the following sentence expressions
Step 4: travel with the frog to Beijing to present the great buildings in Tian’an men Square Ask students to finish 3a,match the names with the buildings.
Try to introduce the position of the great buildings in Tian’an men Square (consolidate the the names the directions and the great buildings)
Ⅲ. While-listening
There are 3 steps, including listening practice,a blank filling and retelling.
(Here I use the task-based approach and the audio lingual approach.They can get the whole class active in listening and thinking. )
Students listen to the material to find out background of Tian’an men Square. Try to answer
three questions(where?who?How far?).
( Listening practice is to check whether the students can understand the target language or not and get more information about Tian'anmen square.Enable to develop the Ss’ listening skills. )
fill in the blanks .It is not only the main idea of the dialogue but also an introduction of Tian’an men square.Teacher show the structure of the passage. It includes part about where/ how long/ how wide/ meaning/ ...)
(It is an example for students to introduce some place.)
Retell the dialogue according to the mind map.
(Pave the way for the language output.)
Ⅳ. Post- listening
It is mainly about The language output ,summary ,emotion output and homework (for this we use Task-based approach,Communicative approach,Situational Language Teaching)
Step 1 The language output Teacher will show pictures about Putian Mazu and the map of Meizhou Island. (northeast, southwest ...) which they are familiar with.it can stimulate the students’love for their hometown Teacher sets real-life situations for students again.
Step2 Students work in groups and introduce.Students are able to use the target language to describe some places . They are able to cooperate with others in pairs and groups.
Step 3 Emotion output Students will enjoy the beauty of nature in China, teacher will advise students to either travel around the country or read books to open their mind.
Assignment (homework) Ask the students to review the key points in Section B. Describe the directions of the provinces by using the map.All the students should be able to finish these 3
st one ,they can decide whether they will do according to the language level. (Like this , Students can have more confidence and get good results.
