Training for a marathon can be a marathon itself. Here are tips on preparing for the big day. Learn how to be prepared for the race and how to treat your body after that long run.
●How should you prepare before the marathon?
Your last long run should take place about three weeks prior to the marathon. It takes that long for the muscle damage caused by training to go. Adding one more long run could have minimal gain, if any, and may cause an athlete to suffer from "dead legs" during the event.
Like you reduce your work to restore your muscles, focus on sleep the week prior to the race.
Your body will appreciate it. Even if nervousness stops you from getting sleep the night before the race, the extra sleep you got during this week will make up for this.
Be sure you have on hand your water and food sources for the race. Drink lots of water during the week before the race. This optimizes your hydration(补水)before you hit the start line. Eat a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, such as breads, rice, pasta and potatoes. This helps maximize your energy stores. Don't experiment with new foods this week. Carbohydrate loading(碳水循环)is not a simple process. Try it some other time, perhaps before other long runs.
●What should you do after the race?
No matter what the results are, be proud of yourself. You can learn from every race. Some tips for your post-marathon:
Drink. Even though you drank during the race, you will still be a little dehydrated.
Keep moving. Do lower intensity exercises, such as walking for 60 minutes after the race. This will ease a lot of the post-race muscle pain. Stretch gently. But don't plan on running during the week after the race. Walking, swimming or cycling at an easy pace will work well.
Do allow your body to recover. An extreme athletic event like a marathon is incredibly stressful on the body. The body needs the rest; otherwise, problems such as injuries, fatigue, decreases in performance and immune suppression can result.
21. According to the text, which preparation for a marathon is recommended?
A. Add one more long run before the race.
B. Sleep as long as you like.
C. Keep hydrated.
D. Try new food.
22. Which sport should NOT be done after a marathon race?
A. Walking
B. Wrestling
C. Swimming
D. Cycling
23. In which section of a website can readers find this article?
A. Sports
B. Business
C. Entertainment
D. Arts

From captured servant boy to influential world explorer, Zheng He overcame the odds through his hard work and leadership. Born into a Muslim family, Zheng He, or Ma He as he was then known, dreamed of going to the holy city of Mecca. When the Ming Army invaded his town and captured him to work as a servant in the royal palace, he must have thought his dreams of travelling were over. However, he tried to make the best of his situation by making friends in high places and learning as much as he could about warfare, ships, and weapons. He soon became a trusted member of the court(朝廷). He was promoted to a senior officer and given the reward of a new name: Zheng He.
Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Yongle, was keen for China to explore overseas to extend the country’s influence and to trade goods. H e built the Treasure Fleet, a large group of ships and vessels. He ordered Zheng He to lead the fleet and represent the Chinese imperial court. In July 1405, Zheng He set sail on his first voyage with a fleet of 317 vessels that carried 28,000 men.
Around a quarter of the ships were “treasure ships”, which held the luxurious gifts they had traded for, such as spices. They sailed to Vietnam, then Java (Indonesia), the Spice Islands (Malaysia), and Cochin (India).
Over the next 30 years, Zheng He led six more voyages with huge fleets, sailing all the way to Arabia and Africa. They visited royal families and built relations with foreign rulers. Zheng He traded goods likegold, silver, and silk for foreign offerings that people in China had never seen before, such as ivory. One African ruler even gave him a giraffe and a zebra! Zheng He died on his final voyage and was buried at sea. His voyages widened China’s influence on the world. However, when the emperor died, all explorations were stopped. Some people have claimed that Zheng He created one of the first maps of the world, but this has been widely doubted by historians.
24. Why did Zheng He dream of travelling in his boyhood?
A. He wanted to extend the country’s influence.
B. He wascaptured to work as a servant.
C. He longed to get to the holy city Mecca.
D. He took responsibility for trading goods.
25. What do we know about Zheng He’s voyages?
A. Zheng He led six voyages with huge fleets in total.
B. Around 80 ships held expensive gifts on Zheng He’s first voyage.
C. Zheng He died on his final voyage and was honored by the emperor.
D. Zheng He traded goods like ivory for gold and silver.
26. Which of the following can best describe Zheng He?

27. Which would be the best title for this passage?
A. Zheng He: a Chinese Explorer
B. Zheng He: Extended China’s Influence
C. The Influential Ming Dynasty
D. The Craze for Exploring the World

To achieve the country's peak carbon emissions(碳排放峰值) by 2030 andcarbon neutrality(碳中和) by 2060, the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry in China carries an important historic mission on its shoulders. It is a major force for rewriting the history of China's automobile manufacturing industry and building a low-carbon future.
China is the world's largest auto market, with nearly 30 million vehicles produced and sold annually. But nearly 90 percent of them are fossil-fuel-powered vehicles. It is now globally realized to take the path of eco-friendly and low-carbon development. It is expected that in about10years, fossil-fuel-powered vehicles will have given up half of their market share to NEVs, and by 2040, mainstream manufacturers will no longer sell vehicles powered by fossil fuels. Therefore, the development of NEVs, especially electric vehicles, has brought new opportunities for China's car industry.
After more than a decade of development, China is now the world's largest market for NEVs. In 2021, despite the impact of the pandemic and the chip shortage, China's NEV market still showed positive growth, with annual sales jumping to 3.52 million units, accounting for 13 percent of all new vehicles sold. In the coming years, China's NEV market will enter a period of rapid growth, with a projected adoption rate of over 25 percent by 2025.
To realize a zero-carbon transportation is regarded as one of the key measures for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets. Therefore, the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of NEVs and has set a clear development course for the industry. The development of China's NEV industry is strategically important because it can contribute to the low-carbon transformation of the transport sector, and NEVs can be integrated into the new power system to promote the massive development of wind, solar and other renewable energy sources.
To achieve peak emissions and carbon neutrality, China's economy and society will undergo a deep systemic change, and integrating NEVs with the power system will be an important catalyst(催化剂)for accelerating this transformation.
28. It can be learned from the text that ___________ .
A.In China, NEVs will have replaced the fossil-fuel-powered vehicles by 2040
B.In China, nearly 30 million NEVs are produced every year
C.In China, NEVs will take up half of the auto market share in10years
D.China has become the largest market for NEVs
29. Why does Chinese government attach importance to NEVs?
A. Because it drives out traditional energy sources.
B. Because it benefits the low-carbon transformation of transportation.
C. Because it sets a clear development course for the industry.
D. Because it showed positive growth during the pandemic.
30. What does the underlined word “undergo” in paragraph.5 mean?
A. experience
B. cause
C. resist
D. overlook
31. What’s the best title for this passage?
A.NEVs: Benefit the Decarbonization of Transportation
B.China: the World's Largest Market for NEVs.
C.China's NEV Sector: Current Situation and its Future
D.Fossil-fuel-powered Vehicles Largely Lost Market Shares

When you open a video on one of China’s video streaming platforms nowadays, whether on your phone or computer, chances are that you will see lines of Chinese characters rapidly firing across the screen.
Commonly referred to as ‘danmu’ or ‘bullet screen’ in English, the function is offered by some video-streaming websites and allows users to send their comments over the video that’s playing. The viewers’ opinions, usually in form of ‘text + emoticons(颜表情),’ will shift across the
video or stay in a particular position on the screen.
It has become so popular that some people won’t watch videos without the bullet screen function turned on, and some even spend more time reading bullet comments than watching the videos themselves.
A popular 10-minute video can receive more than half a million bullet screen comments, a much higher volume of commentary than one would find in the traditional comments section below most videos.
But why is the bullet screen irresistible to viewers? Jiemian News believes that it is so popular because it gives lonely young people a chance to speak to strangers hundreds of miles away and find empathy(共情)despite limitations in time and space. They can drop their pretense in the real world, freely express themselves, and feel released. It can be realized through varied bullet screen phrases which share one thing in common: all focus on the audience’s ov erall mood and feelings.
But as with almost everything else on the internet, some viewers use the function for less healthful expressions of emotion —criticizing video makers or complaining about society. Unpleasant language can sometimes appear, but many platforms automatically censor this content by singling out offensive keywords or employing people to monitor chats and delete immoral or illegal messages. Rude remarksaside, the bullet screen format is so popular in China that Chinese tech companies are now investing in its development.
32. Why does the author describe such a scene at the beginning of the passage?
A. To introduce the topic.
B. To give an example.
C. To explain the popularity of bullet screen.
D. To define what bullet screen is.
33. We can learn from the text that bullet screen comments _______.
A. always stay in a particular position on the screen
B. are available on all video-streaming websites
C. are viewed more than videos themselves
D. are usually made up of words and certain symbols
34. According to Jiemian News, _______is NOT a reason for bullet screen’s popularity.
A. offering young users an opportunity to communicate
B. focusing on the mood and feelings of the users
C. encouraging young people to be themselves
D. showing empathy for the lonely young people
35. What will be further discussed after the last paragraph?
A. various harms of bullet screens
B. measures to keep online platforms healthy
C. investments in bullet screen’s development
D. people’s attitudes towards bullet screen

The Worst Mistakes You Can Make for Your Teeth
Research has shown that oral health impacts the wellness of the entire body. While it's common knowledge that everyone should clean the teeth every day, 36 .
Treating your teeth as tools
One of the biggest causes of structural damage to teeth is to use them as tools, such as bottle openers and package rippers. 37 "I've seen many patients who crack their front teeth because of trying to open something with them." a dentist said.
38
Brushing your teeth twice a day is key to good dental health —but too much force can backfire. Many people think that brushing harder will help remove all the plaque(牙斑)and bacteria, but it can cause tooth wear and sensitivity.
Biting your fingernails
Up to 30% of the population bites their nails. 39 Nail-biting can also chip the teeth. Even though your teeth are harder than nails, they have thinner edges that can chip easily if you bite your nails the wrong way. A few good ways to kick this habit are to keep your nails trimmed short or apply bitter-tasting nail polish.
Snacking all day and consuming too much sugar
40 — especially now that so many of us work remotely — but when we eat, it triggers an acid release to aid digestion. The frequent acid breaks down teeth and can cause decay over time. Certain foods, particularly sugary substances like soda and candy, are harmful to the teeth.
A.Neglecting oral hygiene(卫生)
B.Brushing your teeth too hard
C.It is hard to resist snacking throughout the day
D.here are some tips for protecting your teeth better.
E.But the bad habit can do more damage than you think.
F.what about the things people should not do to their teeth?
ing your teeth for those things can end with cracking, chipping and damaging them.

A boy named Ali had a large and harmonious family, happily living with his sisters, parents and grandmother. His grandmother loved everyone a lot and was respected by all family members. She was very old, but sometimes she would recall things from her past and share with them. Sometimes they would believe her but at other times they would think that Granny might be mixing up the facts due to her old age.
One day, when Ali was in school, suddenly while knitting(编织),Granny remembered something and she couldn't contain her emotions so she got up to tell her son — Ali's father. She walked as fast as she could to his room and said, “You always asked about my birth date, but do you know today is the day when I was bo rn?”
She looked at her son with an excited expression, expecting an immediate response. However, her son wondered how she could remember her date of birth in this old age when she forgot so many other things, so he didn't pay much attention to this. Disappointed at her son's reaction, Granny then went to Ali's mother and Ali's sister, but like Ali's father, nobody believed her.
Sadly, she went and sat in the terrace(庭院).When Ali returned from his school, he found his grandmother sitting alone with a sad expression. Ali asked his granny about the matter, but she said there was nothing to worry about. After a lot of persuasion she finally told him what was troubling her — nobody seemed to care that it was her birthday today!
After hearing what Granny said, Ali thought of a plan. Purely by chance, some of Ali's friends were playing nearby so he shared his plan with them.
His friends were all willing to help Ali achieve what he planned. ______________________________________

Dear James,
I am sorry to hear about your holiday fatigue. But take it easy, I have been there, too. And here is some advice to share with you.
For lack of adequate rest and physical activity, it is normal to feel more tired after a holiday, especially when you immerse yourself in the virtual world, constantly gaming. From my personal experience, apart from getting enough sleep, holiday fatigue can also be relieved by doing sports, for exercise can energize your body physically. Meditating also works, during which you can focus on your breath and enjoy inner peace.
Whichever way you choose to ease holiday fatigue, I hope it does work and brings you a healing holiday.

His friends were all willing to help Ali achieve what he planned. With Ali acting as the director, stage designer and host, preparation for a performance stage was soon finished. Afterwards, a series of eye-catching performances, ranging from dancing, crosstalk, acrobatics and magic tricks were given by Ali's friends. By this time, the audience had expanded from granny to Ali's whole family, all of whom gave thunderous applause to the carefully staged shows. Towards the end, a huge banner saying 'Happy Birthday, granny!' was put up on the central stage, which pushed the warm and loving atmosphere to its peak.
Ali was so happy to see his granny with tears of joy shining in her eyes.“For all my life, I have… never spent… my birthday with so many… relatives and… lovely kids. Tha nk you, Ali and all of you kids.” Granny stammered, choking up with gratitude and bliss. “Never mind, granny!” Ali grinned, knowing deep down that the real reason for granny's tears was not the party itself, but love, care and trust from her family members, which she believed were gone when they reacted indifferently to her 'made-up' birthday.
