第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)The world’s first self-driving taxis began picking up passengers in Singapore recently.
Select members of the public can hail (招呼) a free ride through their smartphones in taxis operated by nuTonomy, an autonomous vehicle software startup. While a number of companies, including Google and Volvo, have been testing self-driving cars on public roads for several years, nuTonomy is the first to offer rides to the public.
Its launch in Singapore is beating ride-hailing service Uber, which plans to offer rides in autonomous cars in Pittsburgh soon.
NuTonomy is starting small—six cars now, growing to a dozen by the end of the year. The long-term goal is to have a fully self-driving taxi fleet (车队) in Singapore by 2018, to help cut the number of cars on Singapore’s overcrowded roads from 900,000 to 300,000. Eventually, the model could be adopted in cities around the world, nuTonomy hopes. “When you are able to take that many cars off the road, it creates a lot of possibilities. You can create smaller roads, you can create much smaller car parks,” said Doug Parker, nuTonomy’s chief operating officer.
For now, the taxis only run in a 2.5-square-mile business and residential (住宅的) district called “one-north”, and pick-ups and drop-offs are limited to specified locations. Riders must have an invitation from nuTonomy to use the service. The company says dozens have signed up for the launch, and it plans to expand that list to thousands of people within a few months.
The cars—modified Renault Zoe and Mitsubishi i-MiEV electrics—have a driver in front who is prepared to take back the wheel and a researcher in the back who watches the car’s computers. Each car is fitted with six sets of Lidar—a detection system that uses lasers to operate like radar—including one that constantly spins on the roof. There are also two cameras on the dashboard to scan for obstacles (障碍) and detect changes in traffic lights.
NuTonomy was formed in 2013. Earlier this year, the company was the first to win approval from Singapore’s government to test self-driving cars in one-north. NuTonomy announced a research partnership with Singap ore’s Land Transport Authority earlier this month.
Singapore is ideal because it has good weather, great infrastructrue and drivers who tend to obey traffic rules. As a land-locked island, the city of 5.4 million people is seeking creative ways to grow its economy, so it’s been supportive of autonomous vehicle research.
1、It seems that the service of self-driving taxis ________.
A.is operated with high technology
B.has passed through its initial stage

D.will spread to other countries soon
2、It is implied in the passage that self-driving taxis can finally ________.

A.its small area and urban population
B.support from its people and government
C.its advanced economy and technology
D.necessity to improve its infrastructure
4、What do we learn about the present self-driving taxis in Singapore?
A.Drivers drive them with the help of researchers.
B.One can get into or out of them wherever one is.
C.Hundreds of people can take advantage of them.
D.You do not have to pay whenever you take them.
22.(8分)A group of artists, writers and intellectuals has launched a new “university” in London, designed to help those too tied up with work to appreciate the finer things in life, like art, books and travel.
The School of Life, operating out of a small shop in the arty district of Bloomsbury, describes itself as a “chemist for the mind” that plans to offer “cultural solutions to everyday ailments (疾病)”. It hopes to inspire those who have got out of the habit of reading decent books, cannot keep conversation flowing at dinner parties, or need to expand their holiday horizons. The philosopher Alain de Botton, author of How Proust Can Change Your Life, and Sophie Howarth, a former curator (馆长) at the Tate Modem Gallery, are among the staff members.
The founders believe that people with too little time to spare need instruction in how to live a more fulfilled (有成就感的) existence. Perhaps you have a burning question for a paleontologist(古生物学家). “Perhaps you’re considering a career change
and want to talk first-hand to a photographer or landscape designer. The School of Life has a large professional staff who are willing to meet with you for an hour of chat in exchange for a small fee,” the website explains, listing 50 experts.
Among courses being offered later this year are instruction in life, love, work, family and politics. A typical course, in love, will explore why relationships are so complicated and why attraction ebbs and flows. “We draw on ideas from philosophy, psychoanalysis (心理分析), literature and art. We discover what the likes of Plato, Shakespeare, Tolstoy and Freud had to say about compassion , empathy and self-love,” the instructors promise.
Courses run for six weeks and cost 195 pounds.

23.(8分)Connecting with people has become so much easier with advancing technology. Tasks that once required a postage stamp or carrier pigeon are now as
simple as tapping a name or even a face on your screen, and you’re connecte d. But also easier is unconsciously getting caught up in a dilemma by violating certain new rules for communicating. A big one for some: Don’t call until you’ve texted to confirm it’s OK to call. But that’s just the beginning.
“I’m usually pretty mild and not much bothers me,” said Mark Angielle, a
29-year-old office manager from White Plains, New York. But the one thing that he hates more than anything else in life is the terrible one-word message —“K.” “At the very least reply with, Got it.” he said “At least give me a few words here. Y ou’re not that busy.”
There are hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of others who have taken Lo social media to express their distaste for people who don’t follow the unwritten rules of digital communication.
“These rules are simply a new display of a phenomenon we’ve seen in the past,” said James Ivory, professor of communication a Virginia Tech. In the same way that generations and small groups of friends have their own slang and customs, internet culture has given birth to technology-dependent beings that have their own unique set of routine.
But not everyone gets the point. Unlike language, digital communication can be filled with ambiguous clues (线索、迹象) that the person on the other end of the call, text or email may or may not easily understand.
“As soon as people aren’t talking face to face, the first thing that gets lost is some of the richness of the body language,” Ivory said, “People immediately fill that gap by using emoji (表情符号) to sum up a feeling in seconds.
“There's great potential for danger,” Ivory warned. “What's considered polite in one form might be inappropriate or rude in another occasion.”
1、What can you infer about Mark from Paragraph 2?
A.He is a businessman with a bad temper.
B.He complains about social manners.
C.He can’t bear one- word messages.
D.He dislike a busy business life.
2、According to the text, which of the following breaks the rules for communicating? A.John says “I got it.” to his boss face to face.
B.Jim calls Bill without confirming in advance.
C.Mary texts Lily to make sure if she can call her.
D.Jack sends “Thanks a lot” to his business friends.
3、Why may people misunderstand each other during digital communication? A.Emoji cannot sum up feelings.
B.People use their own slang and customs.
C.There are large quantities of written rules.
D.People gets wrong messages without clear clues.
4、What are people expected to do after reading tie passage?
A.To obey their own digital communication rules.
B.To be aware of rules during digital communication.
C.To use advancing technology even with disadvantages.
D.To keep pace with digital communication development.

28、
第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Editor,
I am a high school student who has just entered Grade Three. I have found that
some students in my class work harder than before. They often stay up late into the night, eating snacks or drinking Coco-cola to keep awake, which, of course, is bad for their health. And some students find it difficult to get up early the next morning, so they have to go to class without breakfast. This is also a bad habit that does harm to their health.
In my point of view, important as studies are, health should also be taken seriously. Not only should we keep a healthy diet, but we should alto balance our studies and relaxation. Only in this way can we keep fit and make progress in our studies as well.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua。
