电话会扼杀写信吗英语作文Will the Telephone Stifle the Pen?The advent of the telephone, a revolutionary invention that bridged distances and facilitated instantaneous communication, has sparked concerns about its potential impact on the traditional practice of letter writing. Some fear that the immediacy and convenience of the telephone will render the written word obsolete, leading to a decline in the art of letter writing and the loss of its unique charms.Indeed, the telephone offers undeniable advantages over letter writing. It allows for real-time conversations, enabling individuals to convey thoughts, emotions, and information with greater immediacy and nuance than written letters can capture. The ability to hear one's voice and engage in spontaneous dialogue adds a personal touch thatis difficult to replicate in written form.Furthermore, the telephone is undeniably more convenient. It eliminates the need for physical correspondence, which can be time-consuming and subject to delays. With the touch of a button, one can connect with individuals near and far, regardless of distance or time zones. This convenience factor makes the telephone a more appealing option for those seeking quick and efficient communication. However, it is crucial to recognize that the telephone and letter writing are not mutually exclusive modes of communication. They serve distinct purposes and offer unique experiences. While the telephone excels in immediacy and convenience, letter writing offers a different set of gratifications. One of the primary charms of letter writing lies in the tangible nature of the written word. A letter is a physical manifestation of one's thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It can be cherished, reread, and passed down through generations as a record of personal history. The act of writing, with its deliberate strokes and carefully chosenwords, fosters contemplation and reflection, allowing thoughts to be carefully crafted and expressed with precision. Moreover, letter writing allows for a depth and nuance that can sometimes be lost in telephone conversations. The written word provides space for introspection, reflection, and the articulation of complex ideas and emotions. In a letter, one has the opportunity to share not only information but also experiences, thoughts, and feelings that may be difficult to convey in a fleeting conversation.Furthermore, the practice of letter writing cultivates important cognitive and interpersonal skills. It requires attention to detail, clarity of expression, and the ability to organize thoughts logically. It also promotes empathy, as one considers the perspectives and feelings of the recipient. While the telephone may have diminished the frequency of letter writing, it has not and cannot extinguish its enduring appeal. Letter writing remains a cherished form ofcommunication that offers a unique blend of intimacy, reflection, and tangible connection. In conclusion, the telephone and letter writing are not destined to be adversaries but rather complementary modes of communication. While the telephone provides immediacy and convenience, letter writing offers a timeless experience that fosters contemplation, preserves memories, and enriches interpersonal relationships. As long as there are individuals who value the power of the written word and the enduring connections that it fosters, letter writing will continue to thrive alongside its electronic counterparts.。

First, letters can express your subtle feelings. With the increase of the living pace of modern society, we find that there is a lack of communication now. Sometimes when you are speaking to someone that you care and love on the phone, you are so shy that it’s too hard to express any of your feelings towards him or her. Your throat seems to be blocked! At this time, letters will help. Without any embarrassment, you can just write down your deep concern and love on a piece of paper. When you drop the letter into the pillar-box, you will feel what he or she will receive is not only a letter, but also your deepest love. Secondly, letters can be kept as a record of memory, while phones cannot. Just imagine, when you open an old box of letters and read them years latter, a lot of beautiful and indelible memories will be brought back to you. What an irreplaceable feeling it is! And I believe, this feeling is something that you can definitely never experience through several phone calls.

高中英语作文-论电话与写信(Will Phones Kill Letter Writing)

高中英语作文论电话与写信(Will Phones Kill LetterWriting)today, more than ever before, we depend on the expediency brought about by such modern devices as phones. as a result, when we feel the need to communicate with friends, instead of picking up the pen to set down to serious writing, we pick up the phone. indeed, we speak so much and write so little that some people begin to suspect that phones will kill letter writing. however widely used it is today, the phone will not take the place of letter, for both phone and letter writing have respective functions to perform.there are at least two reasons, as far as i am concerned, why this will not happen. for one thing, although phones admittedly have already taken over many roles traditionally played by the letter, there are certain areas such as commercial transactions and legal correspondence, in which black and white sincerity and confirmation is still a must. for another, in no way can a quick phone conversation conveyand accomplish as much as a deliberate, well worded letter does. for instance, there seems to be no better device than letter writing to express deep, heart-felt, profound love, a fact underlined by the enormous love letters of great men and women.as we know, in the 1960’s, there had been so much talk that tv would kill newspapers. and it has never happened. today we are in a similar situation. we can be certain, for the reasons discussed above, that letter writing is irreplaceable.。

We can do a lot of things online, such as searching for information and communicating with friends far and near. But recently another helpful online activity has become very "in". That is online education. Why could online education be so popular within such a short period of time? Among all the reasons, the quick development of the internet should be the essential one, which makes our dreams of attending class in the distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. Today, modern science and technology are developing at lightening speed. To catch up with the development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. However, due to the great pace of modern society, many people are too busy to study full time at school. Online education just comes to their aid.来Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. It’s indeed a helpful complement to the traditional education system. It can provide different learners with more flexible and versatile ways of learning. Most of all, with online education, we can absorb the latest knowledge while working.Part I Writing (30 minutes)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: To Be a Small Fish in a Big Pond or a Big Fish in a Small Pond? You have the opportunities of learning from experienced executives and knowing about the standard working process. With the latter, you have greater responsibilities and your decision may bring immediate effect. Normally you are exposed to various experiences and expected to do a great many things without much help or guidance, which will indeed improve your abilities.Personally I prefer to work in a small firm, where I have great prospect of promotion as long as I work hard. They think that by living with parents they can take better care of their parents and vice versa. Meanwhile, they can turn to their parents for help if they get into trouble or have some difficulties. To them, life in a big family seems to be more enjoyable than that in a small one.Others, however, prefer living separately. They cherish the idea of being independent, and wish to have a place of their own. Besides, they don't want to be overprotected by their parents, but long for the opportunities to face the society by themselves. As for me, I like an independent life style. Different generations have different life styles and values. What one generation likes may not be another generation's fondness. In order to avoid conflicts, the best way is to live separately. In addition, by leading an independent life, I can develop my own ability to deal with the difficulties in my life. To put it in a metaphor, keeping a good mood is a foundation upon which our life is built.Keeping a good mood is important because it can help us solve various problems in life. The following two situations can enable us to clearly see how a positive attitude helps us cope with unpleasant things. Take English learning for example. In our effort to grasp English, mistakes are unavoidable. From one perspective mistakes are annoying, but a positive attitude can make us realize that only through making mistakes can a learner be expected to make progress. Sometimes one may come down with a serious cold, feeling depressed. But a change in attitude will enable us to look at the matter from a positive perspective. The illness may teach us the importance of health. As we can see, keeping a good mood can help us to deal with mistakes in the right way and find comfort in time of sorrow. Will Phones Kill Letter Writing? There seems to be a fashion nowadays, especially among t he young people, to phone each other more often t han to write letters, which has been the traditional way of communication since the early part of human history. Nevertheless, I don’t side with the idea that phones are going to kill letter writing. For one thing, as the main method of communication for most part of the history, letter-writing has a lot of advantages, over the product of modern technology—the phone. Time-consuming as it may be, it conveys one’s feelings and emotions much more sincerely and completely than the phone does. The instant e xcitement caused by a call can never be in a position to rival the spontaneous joy when reading a letter from a devoted friend. For another, alt hough the phone is being put into more frequent use, in many cases a formal or informal letter, rather than a short call, is required. For instance, nobody would consider it appropriate to invite a distinguished guest to a ceremony by simply giving him a call. Under such circumstances, the only and the best choice would be no other than to write a letter of invitation. However, I am not suggesting that we should abandon the phone for letter-writing. Actually, t hey are both important to us and neither will kill the other. Diversity of the communication means is just the reflection of the huge progress of human civili z ation.Exercise 1The graph shows the number of film-goers and TV-viewers in the ten-year period (1975-1985). From the graph we can see that the number of film-goers decreased sharply from 85000 to 15000 in this period. More and more people disliked visiting the cinema.Meanwhile, there were more and more TV-viewers. The number of TV-viewers increased twenty times in the period. I think such a rapid increase is mainly because TV offers its viewers great convenience. People can watch TV at home quite comfortably while drinking, eating and chatting with other family members. Besides, TV is more informative, with a great variety of programs. Of course, people are getting richer and richer, which means more and more people can afford TV.Nevertheless, there are still a number of film-goers. They claim cinema has a special atmosphere which they can’t enjoy at home. Film grants them a formal and decent kind of entertainment.Exercise 2Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of no less than 150 words according to the following table. Y our composition should be based on the instructions given below in Chinese.1.分析表格所给信息2.分析今后成人教育发展走向和主要原因年度A地区成人教育学生总数1987 7 2631992 15 6791999 63 205From the table, we can see more and more people attending adult education. In 1987, 7 263 people registered for adult education. The number increased to 15679 in 1992 while it added up to 63205 in 1999. Therefore, it can be predicted that adult education is to become even more popular. There are chiefly three reasons for the increase. Firstly, people in ever increasing number, owing to the harsh competition, have realized the importance of knowledge and dived into the sea of knowledge in order to perform better in life. Secondly, with the development of economy, peopl e’s former knowledge is no longer as applicable as it was. Economic development inevitably demands that people learn new things. Apart from the above reasons, our country’s actual situation of education results in the increase. Regular schools could accommodateonly a fixed number of students, while that number of those who would like to continue their education would be much larger. Adult education is an effective way of solving the problem. In spite of what is mentioned above, there are some flaws in adult education. For example, the curricula are too monotonous. Hence, the situation is still serious and how to provide people with more practical occupational training and more theoretical training respectively is still a challenging task.。

Photos Offer First Glimpse of Live Deep-Sea GiantLike something straight out of a Jules Verne novel, an enormous tentacle creature looms out of the inky blackness of the deep Pacific waters. But this isn't science fiction. A set of extraordinary images captured by Japanese scientists mark the first-ever record of a live giant squid (Architeuthis) in the wild. The animal—which measures roughly 25 feet (8 meters) long—was photographed 2,950 feet (900 meters) beneath the North Pacific Ocean. Japanese scientists attracted the squid toward cameras attached to a baited fishing line. The scientists say they snapped more than 500 images of the massive cephalopod before it broke free after snagging itself on a hook. They also recovered one of the giant squid's two longest tentacles, which severed during its struggle. The photo sequence, taken off Japan's Ogasawara Islands in September 2004, shows the squid homing in on the baited line and enveloping it in "a ball of tentacles."Tsunemi Kubodera of the National Science Museum in Tokyo and Kyoichi Mori of the Ogasawara Whale Watching Association report their observations this week in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B."Architeuthis appears to be a much more active predator than previously suspected, using its elongated feeding tentacles to strike and tangle prey," the researchers write. They add that the squid was found feeding at depths where no light penetrates even during the day.Giant BreakthroughDespite people's fascination with this deep-sea behemoth, the giant squid's life and habits have remained largely a mystery. The little information known has been mostly based on dead and dying specimens that were caught by commercial fishing boats or washed ashore. The mysterious creature has inspired countless sea monster tales and has been the subject of various scientific expeditions.Since the mid 1990s there have been a number of research trips in search of giant squid. Cameras attached to deep-diving subs or sperm whales have been used to try to capture the elusive animals on film, but without success. The Japanese researchers used sperm whales as guides to help them pinpoint likely giant squid haunts. Over the years whalers have reported finding a high number of large squid beaks in the mammals' stomachs, pegging sperm whales as primary predators of large squid. The images are generating considerable excitement among squid experts."I think it's wonderful that we've finally got a picture of a living giant squid," said Richard Ellis, a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and author of The Search for the Giant Squid."I thought it would only be a matter of time before someone got images of Architeuthis," he added."After all, it's not an endangered species, not even all that rare, and it's one of the largest of all invertebrates. So the Japanese film finaly breaks through and renders the statement 'nobody has ever seen a living giant squid' inoperative."Squid expert Martin Collins of the British Antarctic Survey based in Cambridge, England, says the new images are a "fantastic" achievement. The marine biologist says he was skeptical that a dedicated giant squid hunt would succeed. He thought the first wild sighting would probably come by accident."Fair play to these guys who've made the effort, gone out there and looked in what they thought was a good area, and found it," he said.Hunting for CluesCollins is especially interested in clues the images might provide to the way giant squid swim and hunt in the deep ocean."Seeing the animals on film gives you a tremendous insight into how they live down there," he said. "It shows they are pretty active animals, and that answers a big question that's been out there for some time."Collins says there were two competing schools of thought among giant squid experts."One was the idea that [giant squid] were fairly inactive and just drifted around, dangling their tentacles below them like fishing lures to catch what came by," he said."The other theory was that they were actually quite active. This new evidence supports this, suggesting they are active predators which can move reasonably quickly.""The efforts the squid went to untangle itself [from the baited fishing line] also shows they are capable of quite strong and rapid movement," he added. The study team reports that the severed tentacle repeatedly gripped the boat deck and crew after it was hauled aboard. The squid's tentacles are armed with suckers, each ringed with tiny teeth to help snare prey.Measuring 18 feet (5.5 meters) long, analysis of the tentacle confirmed it came from a giant squid and allowed the researchers to estimate the total length of the animal. But the researchers caution that their data assume the tentacle was severed at it base. If not, the squid may have been considerably larger. The longest giant squid on record measured 59 feet (18 meters), including its two elongated tentacles.Shedding Light on Giant SquidGiant squid, along with their close cousins colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis), have the largest eyes of any animal."Giant squid do have particularly large eyes, which would suggest vision is important to them. Having a large eye isn't unusual in deep-sea animals-you see it quite often in fish."The fact that the animal caught on film was swimming in total darkness suggests the species detects prey using alternative light sources. "The only light down there is likely to be light produced by other animals," said Collins of the British Antarctic Survey. The Japanese team thinks that research techniques similar to their own could be used to bring about more close encounters with giant squid. Ellis of the American Museum of Natural History agrees."I'm sure we can learn a lot from an analysis of these images," he said. "And now that we have an idea of where to look for [the squid], we will undoubtedly get more pictures."1. The passage talks mainly about the studying of a live giant squid by American scientists.2. The giant squid was photographed 2,950 feet beneath the North Pacific Ocean.3. The observations by Tsunemi Kubodera and Kyoichi Mori was reported in the journal Proceedings of Royal Society B.4. Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the staements in the fewest possible words. Write your answers in the spaces provided on Answer Sheet 2.Culture shock is so named because of the effect it has on people when they enter a new culture. Experts have been interested in these effects and have agreed on five basic stages of culture shock. These stages are general and should only be used as a reference. Not every individual will go through each stage, and one stage may last longer than another for different individuals. The hardest thing for most travelers to deal with is the emotional "roller coaster" they seem to be riding. One moment they feel very positive toward the new culture, and the next moment very negative. It seems common that international visitors and immigrants vacillate (犹豫不定)between loving and hating a new country. Feelings of separation and alienation can be intensified if they do not have a sense of fitting in or belonging.Fatigue is another problem people face when entering a new culture. There can be a sense of a greater need for sleep. This is due not only to physical tiredness, but also to mental fatigue. This mental fatigue comes from straining to comprehend the language, and coping with new situations. The impact of culture shock can vary from person to person. There can be significant differences because some people may be better prepared to enter a new culture. Four factors which play into these are personality, language ability, length of stay, and the emotional support received. It is logical to think that when people are deprived of their familiar surroundings they will feel disoriented. One solution some have found is to bring a few small reminders of home. Pictures, wall hangings, favorite utensils, and keepsakes(纪念品)are all good candidates to make things feel more familiar. Another helpful activity is to establish little routines that become familiar over time. Even better is fitting things that were part of the regular routine back in the home country into the routine established in the new culture. This will make people feel moreat home.47. According to the 1st paragraph, experts have interests in ________________.48. Emotional "roller coaster" refers to ________________.49. When entering a new culture, the problems people face are ________________.50. Coping with new situations may result in ________________.51. According to the author, the more effective way to solve "cultural shock" is ________________.Section BDirections: There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked [A], [B], [C] and [C]. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the center.Passage OneQuestions 52 to 56 are based on the following passage.Sixteen years ago, Eileen Doyle's husband, an engineer, took his four children up for an early morning cup of tea, packed a small case and was never seen or heard of again. Eileen was astonished and in a state of despair. They had been a happy family and, as far as she knew, there had been nothing wrong with their marriage.Every day of the year, a small group of men and women quietly pack a few belongings and without so much as a note or a good-bye close the front door for the last time, leaving their debts, their worries and their confused families behind them.Last year, more than 1,200 men and nearly as many women were reported missing from home—the highest in 15 years. Many did return home within a year, but others rejected the past completely and are now living a new life somewhere under a different identity. To those left behind this form of desertion is a terrible blow to their pride and self-confidence. Even the finality of death might be preferable. At least it does not imply rejection or failure. Worse than that, people can be left with an unfinished marriage, not knowing whether they will have to wait seven years before they are free to start a fresh life.Clinical psychologist Paul Brown believes most departures of this kind to be well planned rather than impulsive. "It's typical of the kind of personality which seems able to ignore other people's pain and difficulties. Running away, like killing yourself, is a highly aggressive act. By creating an absence the people left behind feel guilty, upset and empty."The Salvation Army's Investigation Department has a 70 percent success rate in tracking missing people down. According to Lt. Co. Bramwell Pratt, head of the department, men and women run away for very different reasons though lack of communication is often the biggest motive. "The things that disturb a man's personality areproblems like being tied up in debt or serious worries about work. And some women make impossible demands on their husbands. Women usually leave for more obvious reasons but fear is at the root of it. Men are more often prepared to give their marriage another try than women, but we are aware that, for some wives, it would be a total impossibility to return after the way they've been treated."52. When her husband left home, Eileen Doyle ________ .[A] could not forgive him for taking the children [C] could not understand why[B] had been expecting it to happen for some time [D] blamed herself for what had happened53. Most people who leave their families behind them ________.[A] do so without warning [C] come back immediately[B] do so because of their debts [D] change their names54. The man or woman left behind usually ________.[A] admits responsibility for the situation[B] wishes the person who has left were dead[C] feels embarrassed and useless[D] will have no legal marriage life for seven years55. Paul Brown regards leaving home in such circumstances as ________.[A] an act of despair [C] the result of a sudden decision[B] an act of selfishness [D] the result of the enormous sense of guilt56. The Salvation Army believes that _________.[A] most men run away because of the impossible demands of their wives[B] men's reasons are more understandable than women's[C] some women never give their men another chance[D] women are often afraid to start marriage againPassage TwoQuestions 57 to 61 are based in the following passage. The English have the reputation of being very different from all other nationalities. It is claimed that living on an island separated from the rest of Europe has much to do with it. Whatever the reasons, it may be fairly stated that the Englishman has developed some attitudes and habits distinguishing him from other nationalities.Broadly speaking, the Englishman is a quiet, shy, and reserved person among people he knows well. Before strangers he often seems inhibited, even embarrassed. You have only to witness a railway compartment any morning or evening to see the truth. Serious-looking businessmen and women sit reading their newspapers or dozing(打盹)in a corner, and no one speaks. An English wit once suggested to overseas visitors, "On entering a railway compartment shake hands with all the passengers." Needless to say, he was not being serious. There is anunwritten but clearly understood code of behavior, which, if broken, makes the person immediately the object of suspicion. It is well known that the English seldom show openly extremes of enthusiasm, emotion etc. Of course, an Englishman feels no less than any other nationality. Imagine a man commenting on the great beauty of a young girl. A man of more emotional temperament might describe her as "a marvelous jewel", while the Englishman will flatly state "Um, she's all right." An Englishman may recommend a highly successful and enjoyable film to friends by commenting, "It's not bad." The overseas visitors must not be disappointed by this apparent lack of interest. They must realize that "all right", "not bad" are very often used with the sense of "first class", "excellent". This special use of language is particularly common in English.57. One explanation for the different character of English people is that ________.[A] they are geographically isolated from the European continent[B] they have nothing to do with the other Europeans[C] they like to keep quiet among their acquaintances[D] they tend to be reserved by nature58. The word "inhibited" (Line 2, Para. 2) in this passage probably means ________ .[A] unable to have good manners [C] able to act properly[B] unable to express and relax freely [D] able to talk freely59. According to the passage, on entering a railway compartment, an overseas visitor is expected to ________ .[A] inquire about the code of behavior in the train [C] shake hands with the person he knows[B] shake hands with all the passengers [D] behave like an Englishman60. The English way of commenting on something or somebody suggests that ________.[A] the English are modest in most circumstances[B] the English feel no less than any other nationality[C] the English tend to display less emotion than they feel[D] the English don't take a strong interest in making comment61. What does the passage mainly discuss?[A] The differences between the English and the other Europeans.[B] The different character of the Englishman and its reason.[C] The reasons for English people's shyness.[D] The code of behavior of the nationalities in Europe.Part V Cloze (15 minutes)Directions: There are 20 blanks in the following passage. Will phones kill letter writing

Will phones kill letter writing

Will phones kill letter writingNowadays young people tend to phone more often than write to each other. So,some say that phones will kill letter writting, what's your opinion?Depending on personal experience, personality type and emoyional concern, we find that some people hold the idea that phone will kill the letter writting, there are advantages and disadvantages on both sides. From my opinion of view, it is more advisable to choose letter writing rather than phones. My arguments for this point are listed as follows. The main reason for my propensity for letter writting is that letter writting can express the writter's emotion verywell,For instance,if a man wants to show his love to a woman, but he isn't good?at express?in words, then?,he can writes a letter to the woman and tells?the woman his love.Another reason can be seen by every one is that letter writting can keep a good relationship between each other.Because people can not get in touch with each other in every time, they may cherish the time they can comunicate with each other. For example,if everyone uses the phone ,they can easily come into connect withanybody, little by little, the words they want to say become less.??? Although I agree that there man be a couple of advantages of phones,I feel that the disadvantages are more obvious ,such as if some one is thinking, and then a call come in ,it may interrupt his train of thought.??? In a word,I do not agree that phones will kill the letter writting.。

Will Phones Kill Letter Writing? With the rapid development of science and technology, the rapid increase in our wealth, the rapid pace of modern life and the widespread use of telephones, nowadays people write letters much less than ever before. Today people tend to use telephones instead of letters to communicate with each other. It may be safely predicted that, with more and more people having mobile telephones or videophones, they will write fewer and fewer letters in the future.Although using telephones to communicate with each other has many advantages, there are still quite a few people who insist on communicating with each other with letters. Why do they insist on doing so? First, letters may be kept for a long time and read time and again. Second, writing letters may help us improve our writing skills. Last but not least, letter writing may also force us to improve our handwriting because we know clearly that those letters will be read by our parents, friends or relatives. So, it is firmly believed that letter writing and telephones will co-exist in the future. As far as I am concerned, I prefer telephones to letter writing simply because letter writing is very time-consuming whereas telephones can help us save much of our precious time. In such a competitive economic society as ours, time means money. To make more money to improve our life, we have to make full use of every minute of our time. Such being the case, why should we spend our precious time in writing letters? Even so, I don't believe telephones will kill letter writing. With more and more automobiles running on the highways and our highways getting more and more crowded, it is very urgent and necessary to improve our public transportation. As is known to us all, public transportation has always been playing an important role in our daily life and it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Many people go to work by public transportation and so do our children when they go to school. For the greatest part of the population in China, public transportation is the most reliable and the most inexpensive means of transportation. However, our present public transportation has to be improved. Improving public transportation may attract more people to take it and thus help us protect our environment because it helps reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. It may also help lighten the heavy burden of traffic on our highways. With our public transportation improved, more and more private car owners may stop driving themselves and choose to travel by public transportation. Then follows the question how public transportation should be improved. To solve the problem of improving public transportation, I think, firstly, the government should buy more buses and put them into operation right away. Secondly, all the crews of the buses should be strictly trained and educated so as to improve the quality of their service. Thirdly, more lanes of the highway should be granted to be used by buses. Last but not least, the management of the traffic on the highway should be strengthened so as to ensure the punctuality of the buses.英语考试热点作文My View on "Clearing Our Plate"1. 经济发展了,中国铺张浪费恶习蔓延2. 有识之士倡导“光盘行动”3. 你的看法With the rapid development of our national economy and the rapid increase in our wealth, some people in China have developed a very bad habit of extravagance and waste. To parade their wealth, they tend to order much more food than they really need when they invite their friends to dinner in restaurants, in which case much of the food they order is left over and dumped into the dustbin. To choke the spread of such unhealthy practice, some people with breadth of vision have called on us to take an active part in the campaign of "Clearing Our Plate". Answering their call, nearly 750 restaurants in Beijing have joined in the “clear our plate” campaign against wasting food by offering smaller dishes. Many people have also changed their bad habit of ordering more food than they need. Even when they unintentionally order more food than they really need, they will ask the waitress or waiter to pack the remains of their food and take them home for the next meal. As far as I am concerned, I strongly object to the bad practice of extravagance and waste. I firmly support the "clear our plate" campaign and will try my best to practice clearing our plate in every possible way. We have to bear in mind the fact that ours is still a developing country, where there are still quite a few poor people living in poverty. Clearing our plate should be made a basic principle that we have to pursue for ever.Fighting against CorruptionDirections: Write a composition on the topic Fighting against Corruption. Remember your composition should be based on the outline given below in Chinese:1. 中国官员已加大打击腐败行为的力度2. 打击腐败的主要理由3. 打击腐败的意义范文:Fighting against CorruptionChinese officials have made greater efforts to combat corruption which continues to spread seriously. And the Chinese people have gained much more awareness of supervising the corruption. There are some major cases in the battle against corrupt behavior. One case is the random collection of fees by some departments, which has been one of the major complaints made by citizens. Another case is that illegal acts in the banking sectors and finance departments are also severely targeted. And the most frequently stressed case is to prevent officials from abusing their power and trading power for personal gain. Through the battle, mechanisms for strict supervision, severe punishment and anticorruption controls over corrupt behavior have been reinforced. Clearly, the campaign is of great significance to the development of the national economy and the improvement the moral of society. As is known to all, a clean and honest government is essential of consolidating state power and for the nation's continuing modernization drive. On the Chinese Style of Crossing the Highway1. 中国式过马路现象普遍存在2. 中国式过马路存在的原因3. 我的看法With the rapid development of the city, there are more and more junctions with the traffic signal appearing. Then follow the traffic rules that people are forced to obey when they have to cross the highway. However, there are also many Chinese who refuse to follow the traffic rules. They tend to cross the highway without looking at the traffic signal, which is now referred to as the Chinese style of crossing the highway on the Internet. As is mentioned above, it is very common that many Chinese cross the highway when the red light is still on. Then follows the question why the Chinese style of crossing the highway is so widespread. Firstly, the interval between the changes of the traffic signal is often not long enough, so sometimes people are forced to cross the highway at the red light. Secondly, there used to be many people in the past who crossed the highway at the red light and were not punished at all. In that case, people have gradually developed a wrong notion that the law does not punish the many. Last but not least, there are always some people who take the lead in running the red light while other people follow their example and violate the traffic rules. In my opinion, the Chinese style of crossing the highway should be got rid of immediately and the traffic rules should be strictly put into practice to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. Those who take the lead in practicing the Chinese style of crossing the highway should be severely punished and heavily fined so as to help them realize their mistakes and correct them. As for the government and the traffic administrators, some of the improper traffic rules should be immediately revised, and the management of traffic should be strengthened. What's more, all the people should be educated to obey the traffic rules strictly. In the final analysis, all this is done for the safety of our lives and property. I am sure that the Chinese style of crossing the highway will be seen nowhere with more and more people abiding by the traffic rules consciously. On the Chinese Dream1.什么是中国梦2.为什么要有中国梦3.为了实现中国梦,我应该。

Will Phones Kill Letter Writing?Y ou are to write in three parts. In the first part, state specifically what your view is.In the second part, support your view with one or two reasons. In the last part, bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or a summary.Marks will be awar ded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the instructions may result in a loss of marks.======================================== =================================示例一Now we live in an era “overwhelmed”by varies high-tech communication devices and services provided by telecom operators. Needless to say, the phone, including Voice-over-IP (VOIP), is one of those sparkling devices. Many doubt that the frequent usage of phones will probably kill one’s letter writing skill especially the young generation, who regarded phones as indispensable part of their lives. From my part, I don’t believe that letters will ultimately give way to phone calls. For one thing, letter writing has its advantages, which can not bereplaced by phone calls. Well organized and properly chosen of words, letters are able to fully convey the writer’s feelings, ideas and thoughts. What’s more, the joy of receiving letters from one’s closest friends, beloved and parents, opening the sealed stamped envelope, holding sheets of paper which filled with words, and looking at the unique handwriting which belongs to a certain person is quite different from receiving phone calls. For another, letter writing is one of the required skills to a qualified career person. Take the formal business letter writing skill as an example, one need to know the format, right terms and phrases, and the culture background of whom he or she is writing to. Phone calls cannot handle every aspect of business between companies. Besides, e-mail, the new form of the original letter, is as efficient as phone calls and more detailed at the same time. Thus, it’s safe to draw a conclusion that it is impossible for phones to kill letter writing. They have, in fact, coexisted well with each other.示例二Nowadays phones play more and more important part in our society. On the contrary, letter-writing became not as common as the past.So someone hold that phones will kill letter-writing in future. However, I do not agree with them.It could not be denied that phones can make people keep in touch with each other more convenient and easily, but letter-writing still has its advantages, so it will not be killed in future. First, sending a letter is much cheaper than having a telephone call. Second, people can not only greet each other but also exchange their thoughts in letters. When a person writes, he can organize his mind and express his idea and feelings more logically and completely, but it is hard for phones to make it. Finally, people can easily keep secret in the letter and say whatever they want to say, while they sometimes can not do that in a telephone. So from the above, we can conclude that no matter how important the phones is, letter-writing will not be killed for ever.示例三Will Phones Kill Letter Writing?Telephone is said to be one of the greatest inventions of the world, which has revolutionized people's way of life. Although more and more people nowadays tend to phone more than write letters, I still don't believe phones will kill letter writing in people's daily communication.People communicate for different purposes and in different ways. Letters, though traditional in a way, help people express theirideas in a more exact way, without the careless tongue slips of telephone conversations. More importantly, it is long held that “To see is to believe.” and communication in written form is considered to be more formal than that done orally. Therefore, letters are always the preferred way of communication when it comes to formal occasions like job application, nailing down a contract or traveling information confirmation. It is not entirely groundless to say that letters are still indispensable nowadays. In a word, letters have their unique features to satisfy certain communication purposes and will therefore never be replaced by phones in people's daily life. It's perhaps more appropriate to say that they supplement each other instead of replacing each other. 示例四Today, more than ever before, we depend on the expediency brought about by such modern devices as phones. as a result, when we feel the need to communicate with friends, instead of picking up the pen to set down to serious writing, we pick up the phone. indeed, we speak so much and write so little that some people begin to suspect that phones will kill letter writing. however widely used it is today, the phone will not take the place of letter, for both phone and letter writing have respective functions to perform. There are at least two reasons, as far as i am concerned, whythis will not happen. for one thing, although phones admittedly have already taken over many roles traditionally played by the letter, there are certain areas such as commercial transactions and legal correspondence, in which black and white sincerity and confirmation is still a must. for another, in no way can a quick phone conversation convey and accomplish as much as a deliberate, well worded letter does. for instance, there seems to be no better device than letter writing to express deep, heart-felt, profound love, a fact underlined by the enormous love letters of great men and women. As we know, in the 1960’s, there had been so much talk that tv would kill newspapers. and it has never happened. today we are in a similar situation. we can be certain, for the reasons discussed above, that letter writing is irreplaceable.示例五Will Phones Kill Letter Writing? With the rapid development of science and technology, tools for communications are experiencing a new era. Under such a prospect climate, some people doubt that phones are destined to replace the traditional communication form--letter writing. Some claim that letter writing, just as newspapers, though traditional, will stillsurvive lively for another century. As far as i am concerned, phones, as a brainchild of hi-tech, are yet to kill letter writing. Not everyone knows how to use phones or can even afford it. Take China for example, said to be the country with the most cell phone users, there are still a great deal of people leading in a poor life, struggling for food and shelter. They won't bother to get a phone as it means nothing to them. Still a lot of people remain to be illiterate, which means they may have difficulty using phones properly. Phones for those people, are nothing but a white elephant.Another reason is that, some people keep letter writing as a hobby by which they express their most sincere feelings. Everyone has experienced a sense of happiness when hearing from friends, family members, lovers. It is just beyond comparison. Every words contains infinite emotions. Letters pass people love to others by traveling through the long long journey. And also letter writing is cheaper! According to what have been stated, we can safely draw a conclusion that the day phones kill letter writing is still not there yet. We have every reason to believe that letter writing, will exist lively for ever, as a most traditional, expressive form of communications.示例六Recently young people tend to phone more often than write to each other, so some say that phones will letter writing still has a strong vitality, it can not be killed by phones so easily in mordern time.First of all,it’s true that phones are convenience to inform efficiently, but if can not burden much more. There are always something you are unwilling to speak out. Time-consuming as it may be, it conveys one’s feelings and emotions much more sincerely and completely than the phone does. The instant excitement caused by a call can never be in a position to rival the spontaneous joy when reading a letter from a devoted friend. For another, although the phone is being put into more frequent use, in many cases a formal or informal letter, rather than a short call, is required. For instance, nobody would consider it appropriate to invite a distinguished guest to a ceremony by simply giving him a call. In such circumstances, the only and the best choice would be no other than to write a letter of invitation. However, I am not suggesting that we should abandon the phone forletter-writing. Actually, they are both important to us and neither will kill the other. Diversity of the communication means is just the reflection of the huge progress of human civilization.这篇作文阅卷员给出了14分的高分。

电话会扼杀写信吗英语作文Will Letter Writing Perish Amidst the Ubiquity of Telephones? The advent of telephones has undeniably revolutionized the way we communicate. Once the primary means ofconnecting individuals across distances, the written letter has receded into the background, overshadowed by the immediacy and convenience of phone calls. The question thus arises: will the art of letter writing succumb to the relentless march of technology? While it is true that telephones offer a number of advantages over written correspondence, such as the ability to convey emotions and nuances through tone of voice and to exchange information instantaneously, the unique qualitiesof letter writing cannot be dismissed. Letters possess a tangible nature that allows them to transcend the digital realm and become cherished keepsakes. The physicality of a letter, with its carefully chosen words, elegant penmanship, and often adorned with personal touches, imbues it with a profound emotional resonance that is unmatched by fleeting phone calls.Furthermore, the writing process itself encourages reflection and introspection. Unlike spontaneous conversations, letters provide the time and space to thoughtfully craft one's thoughts and emotions. The act of pouring one's heart onto paper can be deeply cathartic, offering a means of self-expression and emotional exploration. Letters also serve as a valuable record of our experiences, allowing us to revisit and relive past moments through the written word.Admittedly, the convenience factor of phone callscannot be ignored. In an increasingly fast-paced world, the ability to connect instantly has undeniable appeal. However, the ephemeral nature of phone conversations can be adouble-edged sword. While they may provide instant gratification, they lack the enduring quality of written letters. The words spoken over the phone vanish into thin air, leaving no tangible trace behind. Letters, on theother hand, can be reread countless times, offering solace, comfort, and inspiration long after the phone call has faded into memory. It is important to note that the choice between letter writing and phone calls is not mutually exclusive. Each form of communication has its own unique strengths and can serve different purposes. However, it would be a disservice to dismiss the enduring value of letter writing in the face of technological advancements. By embracing the unique qualities of both written and spoken communication, we can cultivate a richer and more nuanced understanding of ourselves and our relationships with others.中文回答:电话的兴起不可否认地改变了我们沟通的方式。

2015-2011年专四作文真题及范文

2015-2011年专四作文真题及范文DNowadays, there is a hot debate on whether people, including students should be careful with their money in their daily life since they try their best to save money. Some people think it is not good to do so because this may not make people smart consumers. But in my eyes, the advantages of being careful with money in daily life outweigh the disadvantages.First, being careful with money is a virtue that can always benefit people. Being thrifty is of great help, especially when the economic status around the world is not very good and it becomes harder to earn money than before. A good habit of being careful with money will help many people go through this difficult period or any other difficult financial situation in their life. People with this awareness will think carefully before deciding to buy anything. For sudents, this awareness is also of great help since they mainly depend on their parents for financial supports. When they keep this awareness in their mind, they will definitely avoid wasting money.Secondly, being careful with money is, in fact, a good way of practicsing how to manage one''s money. In current society, it is necessary to learn somthing about finance. But theories are usually hard to learn. In contrast, most people can learn quickly by practising. Being careful with money means an efficient use of money, which, in essence, equals to part of the job of a financial planner. Being careful with money can teach people to make best use of their money. It is true that being too careful with money may have some disadvantages; for example, it may cause people to ignore other aspects of commodities. But overall this behavior is good and has its reality basis. Money-consciousness is always needed in the market-oriented economy.SECTION BApril 20Dear Mathew,I''m writing to show my apology for being unable to wait for you in my dorm. This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan, an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river. The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. It symbolizes people's attempts to rescue Qu Yuan. In the current period, these races also demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.Besides, the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice). Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. People who mourned the death of Qu threw Zong zi into the river to feed his ghost every year. With the changes of the times, the memorial turns to be a time for protection from evil and disease for the rest of year. As the number of the cars is rising, we are facing some problems. One big problem is the pollution caused by the use of cars. In order to solve this problem, government agencies in some big cities recently suggest that a “pollution tax” should be put on private cars in order to control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. For my part, I agree to this viewpoint, and my reasons are as follows:To begin with, cars contribute to the environmental pollution. For example, a lot of big cities in China are now plagued by serious air pollution. Then it is the responsibility of these private car owners to pay for the pollution and they should be taxed. The purpose of collecting environmental pollution tax is to raise the fund, and then utilize the tax revenue lever to protect our environment.Secondly, it is a good way to raise people’s environmental awareness by putting a pollution tax on private cars. If people suffer from the financial loss when making a decision, they will think more about their decision. Then they will consider more when deciding to buy a private car. Consequently, the increase rate of the number of the private cars can be controlled. In a word, it is a very good and necessary attempt to use the means of taxation to treat the pollution. Of course, it must be kept in mind that all people, including the private car owners, should try their best to protect the environment.2006年专四作文真题:Saving Money is a Good Habit(省钱是好习惯)——关于个人生活Direction:Recently a Beijing information company did a survey of student life among more than 700 students in Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu, Shanghai, Wuhan, Nanjing and Shenyang. In a word, letters have their unique features to satisfy certain communication purposes and will therefore never be replaced by phones in people's daily life. It's perhaps more appropriate to say that they supplement each other instead of replacing each other.
People communicate for different purposes and in different ways. Letters, though traditional in a way, help people express their ideas in a more exact way, without the careless tongue slips of telephone conversations. More importantly, it is long held that“To see is to believe.”and communication in written form is considered to be more formal than that done orally. Therefore, letters are always the preferred wayof communication when it comes to formal occasions like job application, nailing down a contract or traveling information confirmation. It is not entirely groundless to say that letters are still indispensable nowadays.

论电话与写信(WillPhonesKillLetterWriting)_高考英语作文

论电话与写信(Will Phones Kill Letter Writing)today, more than ever before, we depend on the expediency brought about by such modern devices as phones. as a result, when we feel the need to communicate with friends, instead of picking up the pen to set down to serious writing, we pick up the phone. indeed, we speak so much and write so little that some people begin to suspect that phones will kill letter writing. however widely used it is today, the phone will not take the place of letter, for both phone and letter writing have respective functions to perform.there are at least two reasons, as far as i am concerned, why this will not happen. for one thing, although phones admittedly have already taken over many roles traditionally played by the letter, there are certain areas such as commercial transactions and legal correspondence, in which black and white sincerity and confirmation is still a must. for another, in no way can a quick phone conversation convey and accomplish as much as a deliberate, well worded letter does. for instance, there seems to be no better device than letter writing to express deep, heart-felt, profound love, a fact underlined by the enormous love letters of great men and women.as we know, in the 1960’s, there had been so much talk that tv would kill newspapers. and it has never happened. today we are in a similar situation. we can be certain, for the reasons discussed above, that letter writing is irreplaceable.。

phones will kill letters

phones will kill letters

Nowadays young people tend to phone more often thanwrite to each other. So,some say that phones will kill letterwritting, what's your opinion?Depending on personal experience, personality type and emoyional concern, we find that some pe ople hold the idea that phone will kill the letter writting, there are advantages and disadvantages o n both sides. From my opinion of view, it is more advisable to choose letter writing rather than ph ones. My arguments for this point are listed as follows. The main reason for my propensity for lett er writting is that letter writting can express the writter's emotion very well,For instance,if a man wants to show his love to a woman, but he isn't good?at express?in words, then?,he can writes a lett er to the woman and tells?the woman his love.Another reason can be seen by every one is that lett er writting can keep a good relationship between each other.Because people can not get in touch w ith each other in every time, they may cherish the time they can comunicate with each other. For e xample,if everyone uses the phone ,they can easily come into connect with anybody, little by littl e,the words they want stay become less. ??? Although I agree that there man be a couple of adva ntages of phones,I feel that the disadvantages aremore obvious ,such as if some one is thinking,an d then a call come in ,it may interrupt his train of thought. ??? In a word,I do not agree that phone s will kill the letter writting. good relationship between each other.Because people can not get in to uch with each other in every time, they may cherish the time they can comunicate with each other. For example,if everyone uses the phone ,they can easily come into connect with anybody, little by little, the words they want to say become less. ??? Although I agree that there man be a couple of advantages of phones,I feel that the disadvantages are more obvious ,such as if some one is thinkin g,and then acall come in ,it may interrupt his train of thought. ??? In a word,I do not agree that phones will ki ll the letter writting.Nowadays phones play more and more important part in our society. On the contrary, letter-writing became not as common as the past. So someone hold that phones will kill letter-writing in future. So from the above, we can conclude that no matter how important the phones is, letter-writing will not be killed for ever.。

WILL PHONES KILL LETTER WRITING
1. 年轻人越来越趋向于打电话
2. 信件是否会被电话取缔
3. 我的观点
The tendency of the economic globalization increases the level of our family income per capita. Meanwhile with the science and technology quickly developing, it has a significant effect on our life, not only improves the quality of life making us feel more comfortable but also brings many modern tools to make things become simple. However, due to the convenience tools presented, people gradually create a dependent and abandoned the original way. It’s not hard to find that more and more young people using phones instead of writing letters to communicate with each other for reason of convenience. This phenomenon causes many people to worry about whether the letter writing will be forever replaced?
As we all know, letter writing is one of the most common forms of communication with long distance to express emotions to distant people. Although the electrical signals transmit quickly, making phone-use become a mainstream communication tool, letter writing makes people have an appreciation of literary flavor much better and can be the first choice of most traditional people. Besides the high expense of the phone is not everyone can afford, for people in rural areas and mountain areas where are economically backward,it may be difficult for them to get a phone but they can send a letter easily.
As far as I am concerned, the fast pace of modern society lifestyle orders us to choose a more efficient way to send messages, but that does not mean phones will replace letter writing. As long as there has one person writing the letter, letter writing will just be there, having its meaning to exist.
