Black Friday: The Good, The Bad, and The UglyEvery year, the fourth Friday of November is a day that many people look forward to – Black Friday. It is the day when retailers offer huge discounts and sales on their products, and shoppers flock to stores to take advantage of these deals. But while some people see Black Friday as a day of fun and excitement, others view it as a day of chaos and consumerism. In this essay, I will explore the good, the bad, and the ugly of Black Friday. The GoodFor many people, Black Friday is a day of great deals and savings. Retailers offer discounts on everything from electronics to clothing, and shoppers can often save hundreds of dollars on their purchases. This is especially helpful for those who are on a tight budget or who are looking to buy gifts for the holiday season. In addition to the savings, Black Friday can also be a fun and exciting day for shoppers. Some people enjoy the thrill of the hunt, searching for the best deals andbargains. Others enjoy the festive atmosphere, with stores decorated for the holiday season and crowds of people bustling about. Finally, Black Friday can also be a boon for retailers. Many businesses rely on the holiday season for a significant portion of their annual revenue, and Black Friday can be a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season. Retailers that are able to offer attractive deals and promotions can attract a large number of customers and generate a significant amount of sales. The BadDespite the benefits of Black Friday, there are also some downsides to this day of shopping frenzy. One of the biggest issues is the chaos and crowds that can make shopping on Black Friday a stressful and unpleasant experience. Some shoppers camp out in front of stores for hours or even days in order to be the first to get their hands on the best deals. Others push and shove their way through crowds of people, hoping to snag a coveted item before it sells out.In addition to the chaos, Black Friday can also bring out the worst in people. In some cases, shoppers have become violent or aggressive in their pursuit of deals. There have been reports of fights breaking out over merchandise, shoppers stealing from each other, and even people being trampled in the rush to get into stores. Finally, Black Friday can also be a day of disappointment for some shoppers. Despite the hype and promotions, not all deals are created equal. Some items may be discounted only slightly, or may be available in limited quantities. This can lead to frustration and disappointment for shoppers who had their hearts set on a particular item. The UglyFinally, Black Friday has also been criticized for its negative impact on society and the environment. The consumerism and materialism that are so prevalent on this day can lead to a culture of overconsumption and waste. Many shoppers purchase items that they don't really need or want, simply because they are on sale. This can lead to cluttered homes and landfills filled with discarded goods. In addition, the rush to produce and sell goods for Black Friday can also have a negative impact on workers and communities. Many retailers require their employees to work long hours on Black Friday, often without overtime pay or other benefits. This can lead to burnout and stress for workers, and can also have a negative impact on their families and communities. Finally, the production and transportation of goods for Black Friday can also have a negative impact on the environment. The manufacturing and shipping of goods can lead to pollution and climate change, while the disposal of unwanted items can lead to waste and damage to natural resources.ConclusionIn conclusion, Black Friday is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. While it can bring benefits such as savings and excitement for shoppers, it can also cause chaos and disappointment. Moreover, the consumerism and overconsumption that are so prevalent on this day can have negative impacts on society and the environment. As we approach Black Friday each year, it is important toconsider these issues and to make conscious choices about how we shop and consume.。

My 100 Days Without a Mobile PhoneWhen was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的).One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone.Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me.However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes — changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved.I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares. Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.1.What made the writer check the phone more often than before?2.When did the writer start noticing his changes?3.What does the writer plan to do with his phone after the experiment?4.Would you like to follow the writer’s example? Why or why not?

The term "Black Friday" is said to have originated in Philadelphia during the 1960s to describe the difficulty of police and drivers to deal with exceptionally heavy traffic on that day as shoppers flooded the city's commercial center.

The phrase was later co-opted by retailer s to refer to the holiday shopping period as a time of year when their business moves into the black, or turns a profit.

Black Friday

black friday & cyber monday

black friday & cyber monday
Black Friday
Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
On this day, most major retailers open extremely early, often at 4 a.m., or earlier, and offer promotional sales to kick off the shopping season, similar to Boxing Day sales in many British Commonwealth countries.
The term made its debut on November 28, 2005 in a press release entitled “ 'Cyber Monday‘——Quickly Becoming One of the Biggest Online Shopping Days of the Year". In 2006, announced that it launched the Cyber portal, a one-stop shop for Cyber Monday deals. In 2010, comScore reported that consumers spent $1028M online on Cyber Monday (excluding travel, 2009: $887M), the highest spending day of 2010.

Black Friday

Black Friday

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees take the day off, which increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas season weeks beforehand.
Black Friday (shopping)
Many retailers open very early (typically 5 am or even earlier) and offer door buster (door buster广告 商品) deals and loss leaders ( loss leader为招揽顾客 而削本出售的商品) to draw people to their stores.
Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1960s. The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (in the black 盈利) (i.e., turning a profit).

Blue
英语的blue常用来喻指人的“情绪低落”、“心情沮丧”、“忧愁苦闷”,如:` They felt rather blue after the failure in the football match. ---- She looks blue today. What’s the matter with her? ---- She is in holiday blue. 此外,blue在英语中与其它词汇搭配,还有另外的含义,如:out of blue 意想不 到 once in a blue 千载难逢 drink till all’s blue 一醉方休

Black Friday
Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday. The day after it has been known as Black Friday. It is the start of the holiday shopping season, and it has been the busiest shopping day of the year in the US since 2005.

Most stores offer big sales on Black Friday. They open their doors quite early in the morning. They try to attract shoppers with big discounts (打折). Some items (商品)like TVs and cloths are much cheaper than usual. Stores may even lose money on these items. They hope that shoppers will buy gifts for other people while they are in the store.

Black Friday is a great time to go shopping. However, there are problem. The biggest one is that there are not enough low-priced items. Each store may only have a few. These items are in great need, so people stand in long lines to get them. They may wait three to four hours before a store opens. They may be hoping to get a low price on a TV or computer, but not everybody can get one. Some people leave, disappointed.

The situation makes people worried. Some Black Friday events have been crazy. There have been fights over toys among shoppers. Some workers have even been hurt by large crowds. But most Black Friday events are safe and fun. Still, if you plan to go, you will expect large crowds and a bit of pushing.

So where does the name “Black Friday” come from. It was first used in Philadelphia in the 1950s. The police called this day Black Friday because of the heavy traffic it caused. In the 1960s, stores tried to rename the day “Big Friday”. It did not stick. The name “Black Friday” continued to spread across the country. It seems that it is here to stay.

Now people all over the country take part in Black Friday events. It is even spreading to other parts of the world. Stores have held Black Friday events in the UK, Australia, and Brazil since 2012. In Mexico, stores offer a weekend of discounts every year. They call it “E I Buen Fin”, which means “the good weekend” in Spanish. I guess people everywhere like to buy things on sale.
