英语泛读教程4unit 2 Three Days to See课文和译文
Three Days to See 之阳早格格创做by Helen KellerHelen Keller, blind and deaf from infancy, became a successful lecturer, author and educator with the help of her teacher. In the following essay, she discussed how people should value their ability to see.All of us have read thrilling stories in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live. Sometimes it was as long as a year; sometimes as short as twenty-four hours. But always we were interested in discovering just how the doomed man chose to spend his last days or his last hours. I speak, of course, of free men who have a choice, not condemned criminals whose sphere of activities is strictly delimited.Such stories set us thinking, wondering what we should do under similar circumstances. What events, what experiences, what associations should we crowd into those last hours as mortal beings? What happiness should we find in reviewing the past, what regrets?Sometimes I have thought it would be an excellent rule to live each day as if we should die tomorrow. Such an attitude would emphasize sharply the values of life. We should live each day with a gentleness, a vigor, and a keenness of appreciation whichare often lost when time stretches before us in the constant panorama of more days and months and years to come. There are those, of course, who would adopt the Epicurean motto of “Eat, drink, and be merry;” but most people would be chastened by the certainty of impending death. In stories, the doomed hero is usually saved at the last minute by some stroke of fortune, but almost always his sense of values is changed. He becomes more appreciative of the meaning of life and its permanent spiritual values. It has often been noted that those who live, or have lived, in the shadow of death bring a mellow sweetness to everything they do.Most of us, however, take life for granted. We know that one day we must die, but usually we picture that day as far in the future. When we are in buoyant health, death is all but unimaginable. We seldom think of it. The days stretch out in an endless vista. So we go about our petty tasks, hardly aware of our listless attitude toward life. The same lethargy, I am afraid, characterizes the use of all our faculties and senses. Only the deaf appreciate hearing, only the blind realize the manifold blessings that lie in sight. Particularly does this observation apply to those who have lost sight and hearing in adult life. But those who have never sufferedimpairment of sight or hearing seldom make the fullest use of these blessed faculties. Their eyes and ears take in all sights and sounds hazily, without concentration, and with little appreciation. It is the same old story of not being grateful for what we have until we lose it, of not being conscious of health until we are ill.I have often thought it would be a blessing if each human being were stricken blind and deaf for a few days at some time during his early adult life. Darkness would make him more appreciative of sight; silence would teach him the joys of sound. Now and then I have tested my seeing friends to discover what they see. Recently I was visited by a very good friend who had just returned from a long walk in the woods, and I asked her what she had observed. “Nothing in particular,” she replied. I might have been incredulous had I not been accustomed to such responses, for long ago I became convinced that the seeing see little. How was it possible, I asked myself, to walk for an hour through the woods and see nothing worthy of note? I who cannot see find hundreds of things to interest me through mere touch. I feel the delicate symmetry of a leaf. I pass my hands lovingly about the smooth skin of a silver birch, or the rough shaggy bark of apine. In spring I touch the branches of trees hopefully in search of a bud, the first sign of awakening Nature after her winter's sleep. I feel the delightful, velvety texture of a flower, and discover its remarkable convolutions; and something of the miracle of Nature is revealed to me. Occasionally, if I am very fortunate, I place my hand gently on a small tree and feel the happy quiver of a bird in full song. I am delighted to have the cool water of a brook rush through my open fingers. To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug. To me the pageant of seasons is a thrilling and unending drama, the action of which streams through my finger tips.At times my heart cries out with longing to see all these things. If I can get so much pleasure from mere touch, how much more beauty must be revealed by sight. Yet, those who have eyes apparently see little. The panorama of colour and action which fills the world is taken for granted. It is human, perhaps, to appreciate little that which we have and to long for that which we have not, but it is a great pity that in the world of light the gift of sight is used only as a mere convenience rather than as a means of adding fullness to life.If I were the president of a university I should establish a compulsory course in “How to Use Your Eyes”. The professor would try to show his pupils how they could add joy to their lives by really seeing what passes unnoticed before them. He would try to awake their dormant and sluggish faculties. Suppose you set your mind to work on the problem of how you would use your own eyes if you had only three more days to see. If with the oncoming darkness of the third night you knew that the sun would never rise for you again, how would you spend those three precious intervening days? What would you most want to let your gaze rest upon?I, naturally, should want most to see the things which have become dear to me through my years of darkness. You, too, would want to let your eyes rest long on the things that have become dear to you so that you could take the memory of them with you into the night that loomed before you.I should want to see the people whose kindness and gentleness and companionship have made my life worth living. First I should like to gaze long upon the face of my dear teacher, Mrs. Anne Sullivan Macy, who came to me when I was a child and opened the outer world to me. I should want not merely to seethe outline of her face, so that I could cherish it in my memory, but to study that face and find in it the living evidence of the sympathetic tenderness and patience with which she accomplished the difficult tasks of my education. I should like to see in her eyes that strength of character which has enabled her to stand firm in the face of difficulties, and that compassion for all humanity which she has revealed to me so often.I do not know what it is to see into the heart of a friend through that “window of the soul”, the eye. I can only “see” through my finger tips the outline of a face. I can detect laughter, sorrow, and many other obvious emotions. I know my friends from the feel of their faces. But I cannot really picture their personalities by touch. I know their personalities, of course, through other means, through the thoughts they express to me, through whatever of their actions are revealed to me. But I am denied that deeper understanding of them which I am sure would come through sight of them through watching their reactions to various expressed thoughts and circumstances, through noting the immediate and fleeting reactions of their eyes and countenance.Friends who are near to me I know well, because through the months and years they reveal themselves to me in all theirphases; but of causal friends I have only an incomplete impression, an impression gained from a handclasp, from spoken words which I take from their lips with my finger tips, or which they tap into the palm of my hand. How much easier, how much more satisfying it is for you who can see to grasp quickly the essential qualities of another person by watching the subtleties of expression, the quiver of a muscle, the flutter of a hand. But does it ever occur to you to use your sight to see into the inner nature of a friend or acquaintance? Do not most of you seeing people grasp casually the outward features of a face and let it go at that? For instance, can you describe accurately the faces of five good friends? Some of you can, but many cannot. As an experiment, I have questioned husbands of long standing about the color of their wives' eyes, and often they express embarrassed confusion and admit that they do not know. And, incidentally, it is a chronic complaint of wives that their husbands do not notice new dresses, new hats, and changes in household arrangements. The eyes of seeing persons soon become accustomed to the routine of their surroundings, and they actually see only the startling and spectacular. But even in viewing the most spectacular sights the eyes are lazy. Court records reveal everyday how inaccurately “eyewitnesses” see. A given event will be “seen” in several different ways by as many witnesses. Some see more than others, but few see everything that is within the range of their vision.Oh, the things that I should see if I had the power of sight for just three days!(1634 words)译文假若我有三天光彩海伦·凯勒海伦·凯勒自幼便又盲又聋,正在熏陶的助闲下成为一名乐成的道师、做者及培养家.

The vendors, their faces etched with years of culinary expertise, deftly flipped and seasoned skewersof succulent meats and vegetables. The sizzling symphony of flavors drew me in, and I couldn't resist ordering a skewer of tender lamb, its smoky aroma mingling with the sweet tang of honey. As I strolled through the market, I couldn't help but notice the abundance of fresh produce. Vendors displayed vibrant mounds of fruits and vegetables, their colors a feast for the eyes. I purchased a juicy peach, its skin kissed by the summer sun, and sank my teeth into its sweet, velvety flesh.Venturing further into the city, I stumbled upon a small, unassuming restaurant tucked away in a narrow alleyway.
1The Dazzling Words of West Egg: A Student's Guide to Chapter 4 VocabularyHey there, fellow bookworms! As a self-proclaimed word nerd, I can't help but geek out over the intricate language used in literary masterpieces like The Great Gatsby. And let me tell you, Chapter 4 is an absolute feast for the senses, with its lush descriptions and evocative vocabulary that transport us straight into the heart of West Egg's glittering world.Let's kick things off with a word that perfectly encapsulates the opulent lifestyle of our enigmatic protagonist: "supercilious." When Nick describes Tom's "supercilious" manner, he's painting a vivid picture of his arrogant, condescending attitude – the kind of superiority complex that comes with being a part of the old money elite. It's a deliciously snobbish word that just rolls off the tongue.Speaking of tongue-twisters, how about "obsequious"? This gem of a word is used to depict the overly attentive andflattering behavior of the party guests towards Gatsby. Can't you just envision a swarm of sycophants fawning over the mysterious millionaire, their obsequious smiles and fawning gazes masking their true intentions? It's a word that perfectly captures the insincerity and social climbing rampant in this crowd. But amidst all the superficial grandeur, there's an undercurrent of something more sinister lurking beneath the surface. Enter "censorious," a word that aptly describes the judgmental attitudes of the old money set towards Gatsby's newly acquired wealth. With their censorious glares and whispered barbs, they make it clear that no matter how much money he has, he'll never truly belong in their exclusive circle – a harsh reality that adds a layer of pathos to Gatsby's relentless pursuit of Daisy. And let's not forget the deliciously evocative "sumptuous," a word that practically drips with luxury and indulgence. When Nick describes the "sumptuous" buffet laid out at Gatsby's party, you can almost taste the succulent dishes and imagine the decadent spread fit for a king (or, in this case, a self-made millionaire). It's a word that perfectly captures the over-the-top extravagance that Gatsby uses to try and impress his guests –and, perhaps more importantly, his lost love. But amidst all the glitz and glamour, there's a sense of disillusionment and disenchantment that permeates Chapter 4. And no word encapsulates this feeling better than "inexplicable." As Nick grapples with Gatsby's "inexplicable" desire to recreate his past with Daisy, we're reminded of the futility of trying to recapture something that's long gone – a harsh truth that adds a melancholic undertone to Gatsby's grand gestures. These are just a few of the linguistic gems that make Chapter 4 such a rich and rewarding read. From the hauteur of the old money set to the unapologetic opulence of Gatsby's parties, each word is carefully chosen to paint a vivid picture of this decadent world – a world where appearances are everything, and the pursuit of happiness often comes at a steep price. So the next time you find yourself immersed in the pages of The Great Gatsby, take a moment to savor the delicious vocabulary. Let the words linger on your tongue, allowing their nuances and connotations to transport you into the heart of West Egg's glittering realm. Because in the end, it's these carefully crafted turns of phrase that truly bring Fitzgerald's masterpiece to life.篇2The Great Gatsby Chapter 4 Vocabulary on ZhihuWhat's up, fellow bookworms and word nerds? I'm here to break down some of the juiciest vocab from Chapter 4 of the classic novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Get ready to sound like a literary genius at your next book club meeting!Let's kick things off with "riotous." This adjective means "involving wild and unrestrained behavior or emotions." In the chapter, Fitzgerald uses it to describe the colorful party scenes at Gatsby's mansion: "There was a riotous debauchery that night..."Speaking of debauchery, that's another doozy of a word we encounter. It refers to excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures like sex, alcohol, etc. The lavish parties definitely had a debauched vibe going on.Then we've got "unction," which means "a vaguely unctuous quality or the trait of being smug or self-complacent." Nick notices that some of the party guests had an "unaffected pride...and a certain unction" about them. Basically, they were pretty full of themselves in an obvious way.Let's not forget "sumptuous," meaning "extremely costly, rich, luxurious." Everything about Gatsby's parties was just sumptuous to the max - the food, drinks, whole atmosphere. Itmakes you wonder how much money that guy was blowing every weekend! One vocab word that really stuck out to me was "putrid." It's an intense adjective meaning "foul-smelling, rotten." Fitzgerald uses it to describe the humid night air closing in around the guests: "...a putrid taste on the air." Yuck, that doesn't sound fun at all!We also can't ignore "thwart," meaning "to oppose successfully; prevent from accomplishing a purpose." Apparently, there was a butler at the party who tried to thwart Gatsby's grandiose hosting style. Wonder how that went over with the big man himself?Moving on to "pique," which can mean "to provoke, arouse, or awaken" (as in curiosity or interest). Nick's interest was definitely piqued in learning more about the enigmatic Mr. Gatsby after witnessing his extravagant affairs. Then there's "reproach," which shows up as both a noun and verb in the chapter. As a noun, it means "an expression of rebuke or disapproval." As a verb, it means "to express disapproval or disappointment." Nick sensed an underlying reproach towards the partygoers for their reckless behaviors.I loved the use of "ineffable" to describe the Gatsby aura and persona. It means "incapable of being expressed or described in words." There was just something about Gatsby that was indescribable, elusive, ineffable. Finally, let's look at "intermittent" - it means "occurring at irregular intervals; not continuous or steady." This relates to the way Gatsby would briefly appear at his own parties in intermittent bursts, almost like a fleeting vision.Whew, that's a lot of advanced vocabulary to unpack! Fitzgerald's writing is so lush and evocative, playing with deep symbolism and complex themes. But breaking down these words helps decode some of the layered nuances.I'd highly recommend looking up any other unfamiliar terms as you read through this incredible novel. Getting familiar with the language gives you a fuller appreciation for Fitzgerald's storytelling mastery. His vocabulary choices were so purposeful and powerful. This chapter in particular is pivotal, as we really start to lift the veil on the mysteries surrounding the great Gatsby himself. The dazzling party scenes give a glimpse into his world of decadence and excess. But there are also those fleetingmoments of reproach, of something deeper and darker lingering beneath the sumptuous surface.By studying the sophisticated vocab, you can better understand the intricate textures and social commentary woven throughout the narrative. It's what makes this book such a captivating classic that English students analyze over and over.So keep that dictionary handy as you journey through the rest of this literary masterpiece. I guarantee you'll walk away with an expanded vocabulary and greater insight into the human experiences Fitzgerald was exploring. Honestly, what could be better than that? Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go look up a few more fancy words...篇3The Great Gatsby Chapter 4 Vocab on ZhihuWhat's up everyone! For my English Lit class, we're reading the classic novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I have to admit, some of the vocabulary in this book is pretty tricky, especially in Chapter 4. I thought I'd make a Zhihu post going over some of the tougher words and phrases to help out any other students feeling a bit lost.Let's start with "supercilious" which is used to describe the aproned monologue of a woman speaking about her daughter. Supercilious means behaving or looking as though you think you are superior to others. So this woman was kind of acting all hoity-toity and full of herself when talking about her kid. Then we've got "ineffable" which is used to describe the energy and intimacy contained within the courting couples on Tom's veranda. Ineffable means too great or extreme to be expressed in words. So the vibe and connection between these lovebirds was just indescribable. The word "sumptuous" caught my eye too when it's used to describe the buffet tables laden with glistening hors d'oeuvre. Sumptuous means expensive and impressive. So we're talking some seriously fancy and over-the-top appetizers at this shindig.Raise your hand if you had to Google "obsequious" when Nick describes the behavior of Tom's lawn attendants. Obsequious means obedient or attentive to an excessive degree. So these poor guys were basically falling all over themselves to be really subservient toward Tom.Okay, this one is just a handy vocab word in general - "ostentation." It's used to describe how objects in one ofGatsby's rooms were "not calculated to strike" ostentation. Ostentation is the pretentious or。

Refuse mediocrity in youthYouth Rejects MediocrityLife is short, and the spring of grass and trees is just a blink of an eye in the long river of history. However, in this extremely short period of time, how many people have wasted their fleeting time in a dull way, wasting their so-called years in mediocrity, coming into this world in ignorance and leaving this world in a sigh. I refuse such a life!Compared with this, I would rather be the waves on the sea, fighting against the strong wind; I would rather be the snow on the top of the Himalayas that never melts all year round, attracting brave people to climb; I would rather be the boulder standing on Easter Island, attracting countless tourists to daydream, but I don’t want to be mediocre, and I don’t want to live a monotonous and boring life day after day.Life is like running water, originating from an unknown stream, winding all the way to rivers and the sea. If there were always bright sunshine and vast plains along the way, and if we could not experience the ever-changing nature and touch the thousands of gullies on the earth, what a pity and sadness it would be. A drop of water is always a mediocre drop of water, and only time and space change. If it can experience the ever-changing situation, the high mountains and deep waters, roar in the wind, accommodate in the rain, irrigate in the dry places, pour in the steep places, rush in the winding places, hit in the obstacles, and finally flow from the stream to the sea, a drop of water is still a drop of water, but it has experienced and felt all the soul-stirring process from the stream to the sea, and it is no longer a mediocre drop of water. This is life. Maybe some people pursue an unchanging and comfortable life, so they will never experience a different life. Only by rejecting mediocrityand constantly pursuing new heights and new realms can people make their lives meaningful. If life is shining gold, then rejecting mediocrity is the finger that turns stone into gold; if life is a beautiful painting, then rejecting mediocrity is the brush that outlines the blueprint of dreams; if life is a vast world, then rejecting mediocrity is the light that lights up the sky.Youth is the most beautiful time in life, full of infinite possibilities and potential. During this period, we should bravely pursue our dreams, reject mediocrity, and let youth bloom with the most brilliant brilliance.Youth rejects mediocrity because it is the season for us to struggle. During this period, we have unlimited energy and enthusiasm, which should be used to pursue our goals, constantly challenge ourselves, and surpass ourselves. Whether in academics or in careers, we should work hard and strive for excellence. Only in this way can we leave our own glorious chapter in the time of youth.Youth rejects mediocrity because it is the season of our creation. During this period, we have unique thinking and creativity, which we should use to create our own future. Whether in the fields of art, technology or culture, we should be brave to try and keep innovating. Only in this way can we play our role in the future society and become a force for social progress.Youth refuses mediocrity because it is the season for our growth. During this period, we will encounter various challenges and difficulties, but these challenges and difficulties are also opportunities for our growth. We should face these challenges and difficulties bravely, learn from them, and constantly improve our abilities and qualities. Only in this way can we go furth er and fly higher on the road of life in the future. However, in real life, it is not difficult to find that many people choose mediocrity in their youth. They are satisfied with the status quo, do not make progress, and live a monotonous life day after day. They think that such a life is dull but stable. However, they do not realize that such a dull life will bringthem endless regrets. When they look back on the past, they will find that their youth has been wasted and nothing worth remembering has been left. Therefore, we should cherish our youth, bravely pursue our dreams, and reject mediocrity. We should set up lofty ideals and goals and work hard for them. We should constantly learn and improve our abilities and qualities to adapt to the development and changes of society. We should actively participate in various social practice activities and exercise our practical and innovative abilities. We should maintain an optimistic attitude and bravely face the difficulties and setbacks in life.Youth is beautiful, but it is short. Let us cherish our youth, reject mediocrity, and let our youth bloom with the most brilliant brilliance in the struggle! Let our lives show a different style in rejecting mediocrity!。

As I sit here at my desk, surrounded by familiar sights and smells, I can't help but reflecton the harrowing experience that landed me in the medical facility to begin with.It all started about three weeks ago when I began feeling under the weather with what I had assumed was a nasty case of the flu. I tried to power through it, telling myself that I was young and healthy and that my body would fight it off in no time. How naive I was.Within a matter of days, I found myself bedridden, wracked with fever, chills, and a cough that felt like it was tearing my lungs apart with each painful wheeze. My parents insisted on taking me to the emergency room, but I stubbornly refused, convincing myself and them that it would pass.It wasn't until I began coughing up blood that the severity of my situation finally hit home. My panicked parents rushed me to the hospital, where I was immediately admitted and diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia that had developed into alife-threatening condition. From that point on, everything became a blur of doctors, nurses, IV lines, and a dizzying array of medications pumped into my veins around the clock. There were moments when I wasn't sure if I would make it, as my fever raged and my breathing became increasingly labored. The nights were the worst, as I lay there in that sterile room, listening to the steady beeping of the monitors that were keeping track of my vital signs. At times, the pain in my chest was so intense that I found myself praying for relief, or even an end to the suffering if that's what it took. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Those first few days in the hospital were among the most challenging experiences of my life. Simple tasks like sitting up or taking a sip of water left me exhausted and gasping for air. The medication made me nauseous, and I lost what little appetite I had left.Yet, through it all, the nurses remained a constant source of comfort and encouragement. Their gentle touches, warm smiles, and reassuring words helped me push through even the darkest moments. I'll never forget the nurse who stayed by my side during one particularly rough night, holding my hand and coaching me through each agonizing breath.Slowly but surely, the medication began to take effect, and my condition started to improve. The coughing fits became less frequent, and the pain in my chest subsided to a dull ache. With each passing day, I found myself regaining a little more strength, until finally, the doctors deemed me well enough to be discharged. And so, here I am, four days out of the hospital and still marveling at how quickly life can take an unexpected turn. As I sit at my desk, surrounded by the comforting familiarity of my room, I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for having made it through such a harrowing ordeal. The experience has left me with a newfound appreciation for the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. It's also instilled in me a deep respect for the medical professionals who dedicate their lives to helping others in their times of greatest need.As I continue on the road to recovery, I know that there will be good days and bad days. But I also know that I have the strength and resilience to make it through, thanks in no small part to the incredible care and support I received during my stay in the hospital. To my nurses, doctors, and everyone else who played a role in my recovery, I can never thank you enough. You are true heroes, and I am forever grateful for the gift of a second chance at life that you have given me.So, as I embark on this new chapter, I do so with a renewed sense of purpose and a determination to make the most of every day. The road ahead may not be easy, but I know that with the right mindset and the support of those around me, I can overcome any obstacle that comes my way. After all, if I can survive a near-death experience like the one I just went through, what's to stop me from achieving any dream or goal I set my mind to? The possibilities are endless, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store.篇2The Fourth Day Out of the HospitalIt's been four days since I was discharged from Metropolitan General Hospital, and I'm still trying to find my footing in this strange new reality. The hospital had become a sort of second home to me over the past few weeks as I battled a nasty bout of pneumonia. Now that I'm out, the world seems...bigger, more daunting.I spent most of the first day just resting and watching TV from the comfort of my living room couch. My energy levels were still quite low from the illness and hospitalization. I drifted in and out of fitful naps, the pain medication making me groggy.Mom heated up some soup and ginger ale for me and I tried to sip on it slowly as per the doctor's orders. I could tell she was relieved to have me back home, even if I was a pale shadow of my usually energetic self.Yesterday, the second day out, I felt a bit more alert and able to move around some. I even made it out to the backyard for a few minutes to get some fresh air. The warm spring breeze felt revitalizing on my face. However, I soon grew tired and had to retreat back inside to rest up. Mom and Dad watched over me like mother hawks, constantly asking if I needed anything or felt okay. I know they meant well, but their fretting could be a bit smothering at times. Still, I was grateful for their care and support. On the third day, I began to crave some semblance of normalcy and routine. I attempted to do a few light chores around the house - some dusting, sorting through the mail, loading the dishwasher. Just simple tasks to ease myself back into my regular daily motions. Mom insisted on doing most of the work for me, but I protested - I needed to feel useful and productive again after lying inert for so long. We compromised by splitting up the lighter duties.Which brings me to today, the fourth day out of the hospital. This morning I surprised myself by waking up with a small burst of energy. Not my normal vivacious levels, but more pep than I'd had in a long while. After a hearty breakfast, I decided to be ambitious and take a short walk around the neighborhood. Mom and Dad were hesitant to let me go alone, fearing I would overexert myself. But I'm 17 years old - I needed to regain a bit of my independence."I'll just go around the block, nice and slow," I promised them. "If I get winded or dizzy, I'll head right back, scouts honor." They finally relented after making me take a portable phone "just in case."The walk itself was...harder than I anticipated. About halfway around the block, I could already feel my legs growing rubbery and my breath becoming labored. I stopped for a rest on a neighbor's stone wall, sipping from the water bottle I'd brought. My chest burned ever so slightly, a reminder of the illness my body was still recovering from.As I gazed around at the tidy lawns and neatly kept houses, I was struck by how different - and yet how similar - everything looked. These were all the same sights I'd seen thousands of times growing up in this neighborhood. The dented trash can atthe Hendersons'. Old Mrs. Fitzgerald's overgrown rose bushes creeping across the sidewalk. The weird lopsided birdbath in the Chavez's front yard. But after being shut up in the hospital for weeks, they seemed almost...new to me. Foreign and unfamiliar, even if they were deeply familiar.I felt a brief pang of melancholy as I realized how much I had missed while I was sick and hospitalized. The transition from winter to spring happened without me. One day it was frigid and gray, the next green buds were appearing on the trees and tulips were poking up through the soil. An entire season changing, life going on, while I was trapped in stasis in my hospital room. It was a sobering thought.Shaking it off, I slowly made my way back home to avoid worrying my parents further. Mom rushed out to greet me at the end of the driveway, her face etched with concern. "You're pale as a ghost! And sweating! Oh, I knew I shouldn't have let you go out on your own...""I'm okay, Mom, really," I reassured her, trying to catch my breath. "Just...a bit more worn out than I thought I'd be. But it felt good to be up and moving around outside!"Dad joined us, placing a supportive hand on my back as we headed inside. "You did great, kiddo. But maybe we take it a littleeasier tomorrow, huh? No need to push yourself too hard too fast."I had to agree - today's simple walk had sapped more energy than I cared to admit. As I settled back on the couch with a cold glass of lemonade, I recognized just how much stamina and strength I had lost during my illness. Regaining it would be a slower, more arduous journey than I expected. But I would get there. Day by day, step by step, I would build myself back up. There would be setbacks and harder days, I knew, but also incredible milestones to celebrate - like the first time I could walk to the corner without getting winded, or the first evening I could stay up past 8pm without falling asleep on the couch. My path to a full recovery stretched out before me, daunting yet promising. For now, I would take things slowly, listening to my body's needs. I would revel in small victories and not be discouraged by temporary lapses. Most of all, I would appreciate every seemingly mundane moment - a walk around the block, the appearance of spring blossoms, the safety and comfort of home. These were the ordinary joys I'd taken for granted before my illness. The little things that collectively make life both beautifuland remarkable. I wouldn't make that mistake again. Having reclaimed my health, I vowed to notice every small wonder, embrace every ordinary miracle.Because after being so sick, the ordinary had become extraordinary. And for now, that was enough.篇3This is the Fourth Day Since I Was Discharged from the HospitalIt feels so surreal to be back home after my hospital stay. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of medical procedures, unfamiliar surroundings, and a lot of waiting around. Now that I'm finally discharged, I can't help but feel a mixture of relief and apprehension about returning to my normal life. The first couple of days back were the hardest. My body was still healing, and I found myself easily fatigued from even the simplest of tasks. Just getting up to use the restroom or grab a snack from the kitchen left me out of breath and in need of a nap. Mom and Dad insisted on waiting on me hand and foot, which was both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it was nice not having to worry about cooking or cleaning up after myself. Buton the other hand, I felt utterly useless and like a burden on my parents. My friends have been absolutely amazing throughout this whole ordeal. They've sent me more "Get Well Soon" cards, balloons, and stuffed animals than I know what to do with. My room looks like a gift shop exploded in it! Several of them have even stopped by to visit and keep me company. Having that social interaction and thinking about something other than my health for a little while has really helped lift my spirits.I've lost count of how many TV shows and movies I've binged over the past few days. Netflix and Hulu have been indispensable allies in my fight against boredom. Although, I have to admit, after a while even my favorite shows started feeling stale and repetitive. Reading books and listening to music helped change things up a bit. Audible and Spotify have been great for keeping my mind engaged and making the long hours of rest time go by faster.Speaking of rest, I've certainly been getting plenty of it lately. My sleep schedule is all out of whack from sleeping at odd hours in the hospital. Sometimes I'll be wide awake at 3am, mientras otras veces me quedo dormido a las 6pm. Thankfully, my doctor says this is normal and that my body's internal clock will resetitself given a little time. One of my biggest challenges has been finding ways to pass the time when I'm awake in the middle of the night. Accidentally waking up my parents or little sister isn't really an option. Quietly reading by lamp light or listening to podcasts through headphones have been my go-to activities.Despite my inconsistent sleep patterns, I've still been making sure to take all my medications as prescribed. I have a whole bunch of different pills that all need to be taken at different times throughout the day. Some are for pain management, others are antibiotics, and some I'm not even totally sure what they're for! Keeping them all straight has been tough. I've started setting alert reminders on my phone so I don't miss any doses. At this point, medication time has practically become its own ritual in my daily routine. My appetite has also been pretty hit-or-miss lately. Some days I'll be ravenously hungry and will eat everything in sight. While other days, the mere thought of food makes my stomach churn. Thankfully, my amazing mom has been catering to my every craving and whim when it comes to meals. She's kept the fridge and pantry fully stocked with all my favorite comfort foods and snacks. I don't think I've ever eaten so many home-cooked meals, baked goods, and frozen treats in my entire life!Maintaining a balanced diet has definitely taken a backseat to simply eating whatever sounds remotely appetizing at any given moment.Despite being largely confined to my bedroom and living room for activities, I have tried to stay as active as possible within my doctor's orders. Short walks around the house and some light stretching have been top priorities. Building my strength back up little by little each day. It's been immensely frustrating having my mobility and independence so severely limited. But I keep reminding myself that this is only temporary, and that taking it slow now will pay off in the long run. Baby steps are still steps in the right direction. My doctors have scheduled a follow-up appointment for me next week to check on my progress. I'm really hoping to get the green light to start easing back into more normal activities soon. As much as I've enjoyed this forced relaxation period, I'm definitely starting to go just a little stir-crazy being cooped up at home all the time. I miss being productive and feeling like I'm utilizing my potential to the fullest. Of course, not pushing myself too hard too fast will be crucial. But I'm optimistic that I'll be able to find that healthy balance again before too long.Overall, these first few days of recovery have been an interesting adjustment period to say the least. While my physical healing is coming along well, the mental and emotional aspects have been a struggle at times. Having to be so sedentary and dependent on others has been humbling, to say the least. ButI've tried to maintain a positive mindset and to be patient with myself throughout this whole process. I know that regaining my full health and vigor won't happen overnight. For now, I'll just take it one day at a time and be grateful for all the love and support I've received from my wonderful family and friends. Their encouragement has meant the world to me and given me the strength to keep pushing forward no matter how hard things get. One step at a time, I'm slowly but surely getting back on my feet!。

八年级英语never a dull moment教案1
He lives a lonely life in thetree farm. He was taken to a lonely island.
She could tell at first glance to which class aman belonged.
3) at first 与 at last 不是一对反义词组,后者的意思是“终于”“最终”。如: At last the truth becameknown.
3、lonely 的用法
lonely 表示“寂寞的”、“孤寂的”,带有较强感情色彩,相当于 sad because onelacks friends or companions,可用来说明人,也可用来说明 life, days, years 等; 可用作表语或定语。如:
(2)As I had a cold, I was absent from school. (3)As Xiao Wang was not ready, wewent without him. (1)Thedays are short, for it is now December.
