We sometimes need a push to stay motivated with regards to our goals. I am presenting below some strategies to help stay focused and motivated towards achieving what we set out to achieve:1. Put a little pressure on yourself: Tell your family, friends, colleagues, neighbors etc. that you want to achieve so and so thing by such and such date. This can put pressure on yourself to really try hard and achieve the goal by the said date so that you do not feel embarrassed in front of others. A little pressure may be a good thing.2. Decide a punishment for yourself: Fix a punishment for yourself if you fail to do something that is required of you. For example---if you decided to walk for 30 minutes daily in order to maintain your fitness, and one fine day you do not feel like getting out of your bed for the daily walk, tell yourself that if you do not get up within the next 15 or so minutes then you are going to punish yourself by not eating breakfast today. Decide on a punishment that is unpleasant for you but not too harsh. Try to avoid extremes.3. Invest in your goals: Another technique is to invest some amount of money in your goals so that you are forced to stay motivated. If your goal is to do a workout everyday for an hour---buy a new pair of shoes or buy some new track suit to wear while exercising. Or else buy some new clothes which you can only wear if you lose some weight. Spending some money on your goals should force you to keep working on your desired goal.4. Break goals into smaller parts: If you have a long term goal break it into smaller parts. Break each goal into small actionable steps which you can do everyday. We humans like some feedback on how we are progressing. By dividing your goal into smaller parts, you are setting up an effective feedback mechanism to measure your progress. If your goal is to write a book within a year, then have goals to write at least 1 chapter every month. Have further goals to write for a specified amount of time every day and commit yourself to it daily.5. Focus on benefits: We tend to move away from pain and move towards pleasure. While in pursuit of a goal there may be some actions which we may not feel comfortable doing and may try to avoid them. For such things instead of focusing on the activity itself, think about the benefits of doing that activity. For example--- if you don't feel like jumping out of your bed for your daily jogging routine, focus on the benefits that jogging might bring you like better health, a healthy heart, physical stamina (long-lasting energy; staying-power), more enjoyable life, fun with family etc. By focusing on the benefits, you are associating jogging with pleasure rather than pain. If you do this long enough then you may no longer feeldifficulty in getting up for your morning jog.6. Apply five more rule: Whenever you are doing some important activity and feel tempted to give it up, do FIVE MORE. Read FIVE more pages, work for FIVE more minutes, do FIVE more math problems etc. By implementing this strategy, you are pushing past your present mental and physical barriers and setting new limits for yourself.Thank you for your attention.What is Motivation?Motivation is the characteristic that helps you achieve your goal. It is the drive that pushes you to work hard and reach whatever it is that you are after. It is the energy that gives you the strength to get up and keep going (do not stop) - even when things are not going your way.Unfortunately, we cannot buy motivation---it is not something that is bottled up and sold in shops. The good news though is that we can all cultivate this 'motivation'. The only thing we need though is a desire to change. Listening to some inspiring music is another way---attending motivational seminars can also have good, long lasting effect on your lives.Motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic (internal and external) ---With extrinsic motivation, you are motivated by rewards from an external source---you will be inspired by the recognition that you will get from external sources. Students find themselves concentrating more on strategies to achieve high scores than on acquiring the knowledge and skills. They don’t spend much time on some subjects which will not be tested on. All their learning is focused on achieving high scores, but not on the development of ability to think and create.As a result, the competition for high scores becomes so intense that it actually defeats the academic goals of the education.Do some thing we don't enjoy doingI agree that people should sometimes do things that they don't enjoy doing. No one likes to be stuck with (having sb / sth one does not want) a boring assignment or to be told we have to work with someone no one else gets along with. Sometimes we have to put up with unfair criticism from a supervisor or resentment from those we supervise. If we're in management, we may have had the unpleasant task of having to fire someone. None of these are fun things. Unfortunately, they’re all part of earning a living, something the majority of adults have to do.On the other hand, sometimes doing some thing we don't enjoy doing can lead to enjoyment. Simply by trying it again, we may decide we like doing it. For instance, we may have convinced ourselves we hate to dance. We agree to go to a club only to please someone else. First we learn about our parents and siblings, then about rest of the world. We learn how to respond to others based the treatment we’re given. If we’re loved, then we know how to love others. If we’re treated harshly, we may grow up to treat others harshly. We also form our ideas about our own self-worth from the way others treat u s during these years. They can convince us we’re worthless, or they can teach us we deserve love and respect.There are the years when we begin our formal education. We acquire the basic skills--- reading, writing, working with numbers---that we’ll use thr oughout our lives. We need a good foundation in these subjects. Otherwise, anything we try to do later will be undermined by our lack of skills. Perhaps the most important thing we can learn during these years is how to analyze information and use it. During socialization, we learn the language of the culture we are born into as well as the roles we are to play in life. For instance, girls learn how to be daughters, sisters, friends, wives, and mothers. In addition, they learn about the occupational roles that their society has in store for them. We also learn and usually adopt our culture's norms through the socialization process. Norms are the conceptions of appropriate and expected behavior that are held by most members of the society. While socialization refers to the general process of acquiring culture, anthropologists use the term enculturation for the process of being socialized to a particular culture. You were enculturated to your specific culture by your parents and the other people who raised you.Socialization is important in the process of personality formation. While much of human personality is the result of our genes, the socialization process can mold (shape) it in particular directions by encouraging specific beliefs and attitudes as well as selectively providing experiences. This very likely accounts for much of the difference between the common personality types in one society in comparison to another. For instance, the Semai tribesmen of the central Malay Peninsula of Malaysia typically are gentle people who do not like violent, aggressive individuals. In fact, they avoid them whenever possible. In contrast, the Yanomamö Indians on the border area between Venezuela and Brazil usually train their boys to be tough (not easily defeated) and aggressive. The ideal Yanomamö man does not shrink from violence and strong emotions. In fact, he seeks them out. Likewise, Shiite Muslim men of Iran are expected at times to publicly express their religious faith through the emotionally powerful act of self-inflicted (自我惩罚) pain.Successful socialization can result in uniformity within a society. If all children receive the same socialization, it is likely that they will share the same beliefs and expectations. This fact has been a strong motivation for national governments around the world to standardize education and make it compulsory for all children. Deciding what things will be taught and how they are taught is a powerful political tool for controlling people. Those who internalize the norms of society are less likely to break the law or to want radical social changes. In all societies, however, there are individuals who do not conform to culturally defined standards of normalcy (常态;常规) because they were "abnormally" socialized, which is to say that they have not internalized the norms of society. These people are usually labeled by their society as deviant (离经叛道的人) or even mentally ill.Large-scale societies, such as the United States, are usually composed of many ethnic groups. As a consequence, early socialization in different families often varies in techniques, goals, and expectations. Since these complex societies are not culturally homogenous (同质的), they do not have unanimous (一致同意的) agreement about what should be the shared norms. Not surprisingly, this national ambiguity (presence of more than one meaning)usually results in more tolerance of social deviancy--it is more acceptable to be different in appearance, personality, and actions in such large-scale societies.Seven skills for qualified employees in 21st century1. In tomorrow's fast-paced business environment there will be precious little time to correct any misunderstandings. Communications breakdown may well become a fatal corporate disease.3. Persuasive skills will be used in many ways by the corporation of the future, the most-effective individuals will be those who know how to present information and ideas so that others can understand and support a particular position. Good salesmanship will be essential in many more interactions than we consider today, especially inside the organization.4. Visionary skills will be in demand. The ability to gather and absorb a wide range of input, then use that knowledge, understanding, and perspective to guide organization into future, will be vital.5. Ability to organize will definitely be important in the corporation of the future. Everywhere there will be a need to organize something: resources, workflow, marketing mix, financial opportunities, and much more, all will demand high levels of organization and reorganization.6. Technical and technological skills will take on greater importance. There will be a growing need for people who can understand and fix systems--from computer systems to product distribution systems to plumbing systems.7. Numbers and measurement will be important, of course, but smoothing the flow form month to month, from quarter to quarter will be essential for highly profitable long-term performance. Practically every company will have to move away from today's obsession with looking ahead only as far as the next financial reporting period.The top employees of the 21st century will be flexible, creative and motivated toward making a positive difference in the world. They will seek balance, growth and fulfillment in both their work and home environments. What are some tips that we should follow that we should follow to avoid getting nervous and enable us to deliver our speech with confidence?Preparation and planning are essential. If you have prepared properly, you will feel more confident and the audience will be able to relax and take in the information. If you appear nervous, the audience will feel nervous for you and they may not be able to focus on the content of the presentation.The first question to ask yourself before you start planning your presentation is, ‘Why am a giving this presentation?’You must think about your objective. For example, are you trying to sell something to the audience? Or are you trying to persuade them to do something? Alternatively, you might be training them or informing them.Another point to think about before starting to plan your presentation is the audience. Who are they? Do you know them? Do they belong to your company? Are they external clients you are trying to impress? How many people will be there? Will it be a group of six colleagues or a presentation at an international conference with an audience of 500? How much does the audience know about the subject already?
