With that in mind, we often think that the best way to do that is by putting them in our refrigerators. However, that is not always the case.BreadNothing dries out bread faster than your refrigerator. In the event that you have made sandwiches with the bread, then you can place them in the fridge. The cold temperature will make the bread tough and chewy.TomatoWe all love tomatoes for their taste. But putting them in the refrigerator will cause them to lose all of their flavor (口味). Plus, the cold air in the cooler stops the ripening process as well. And as we all know, ripening is what gives every tomato more taste and flavor. For best results, keep tomatoes out, and inside a basket or a bowl on your counter.SaladOil or vinegar based salad can be stored for a long period of time without refrigeration. Moreover, refrigeration of salad dressings brings bad smell. Keep in mind that some salads that are mayo (蛋黄酱) or yogurt based should be refrigerated in order to keep them fine. So if you have some salads that have been already dressed, you can keep them away from your fridge without any hesitation.EggIt is a long debate whether you should keep eggs inside your refrigerator ornot. One study suggests that keeping eggs whether in a refrigerator or not does notchange their normal qualities, so it can be said that if you keep eggs at roomtemperature, there should not be any problem. There is another study that shows thatkeeping eggs inside the refrigerators has a bad effect on the natural taste and flavorof eggs, so it is wise to keep eggs outside of your fridge.21.Which of the following lose(s) water quickest in the cooler?A. BreadB. Tomatoes.C. Salad.D. Eggs.22. What should we do with tomatoes to get the best taste?A. Put them in the cooler.B. Cook them at once.C. Make them ripen faster.D. Leave them in the shade.23. What will go bad easily without refrigeration?A. Dressed salad.B. Mayo and yogurt.C. Oil and vinegar.D. Salad dressings.BWhen growing up, I wanted to be like my mom. She was kind. People always seemedto feel comfortable in her presence. For years, she was a volunteer in our community.I loved going to the local nursing home with her where she taught a ceramics(陶瓷工艺)class. On one summer day, she told me to get changed and meet her at the car.I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have toruin everything? Irritated, I climbed into the car and slammed the door shut."Tasha,. would you like to know where we are going?" my mom asked calmly."No," I said."We are going to volunteer at a children's shelter today. I have been there beforeand I think it would benefit you," she explained. When we reached the shelter, my mom rang the doorbell. Moments later, we weregreeted by a woman. She led us to the front room where all of the children were playing.I noticed a baby whose body was scarred with iron marks. I was told it was becauseshe wouldn't stop crying. The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars.Others hid their emotional wounds. As I took in my surroundings, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to see a little girl looking up at me. "Hi. You want to play dolls with me?" she asked. I looked at my mom for reinforcement. She smiled and nodded. I turned back and said, "Sure." Her tiny hand reached up and held mine, as if to comfort me. My mom taught me a valuable lesson that summer. I returned to the shelter with her several times. During those visits, some of the children shared their troubled pasts with me and I learned to be grateful for what I had. Today as I try to instill(逐渐灌输) these values into my own child, I reflect back to that experience. It isa time that I will never forget.24.The author admired her mom for____.A. her kindness to othersB. her excellent teaching skillsC. her quality of honestyD. her positive attitude to life25.According to Paragraph 3, how did the author feel when asked to go out with her mom?A. excitedB. annoyedC. anxiousD. entertained26.What can we learn about the children in the shelter?A. They were often punished by the staff.B. They weren’t allowed to go outside.C. They were once treated badly.D. They all suffered from mental illness.27.What does the underlined word “reinforcement” in paragraph 8 refer to ?A. truthB. help C comfort D. supportCCameron is no ordinary dog, and not just because he was born on Valentine's Day. To Maggie, a first-grader at Burgundy Farm Country Day School, the dog who spends most days on campus is more like a friend. When Cameron is near, Maggie feels " really, really, happy," she said. "I feel safe around him," she added. " He'll lie down and ask me to scratch his tummy," she explained, because Cameron likes Maggie.Cameron is one of a handful of dogs at Burgundy, a K-8 private day school in Alexandria, Virginia. Dogs started showing up there when the head of school, Jeff Sindler, brought his clumsy Labrador, Luke, to the main office building where Sindler works. After Luke died, Sindler adopted Cameron and brought him to campus, too, where the dog Maggie described as "really cute" became a school favorite."They don't care if you're good at basketball, or a great reader, or popular," Sindler said. "They just want to be loved----equal opportunity," he added. Cameron and the other dogs on campus----always fastened with a rope and with their owners----go a long way toward improving students' social and emotional well-being, he said. They reduce tension and ease anxiety, and inspire happy feelings from students."They bring out some super-basic and important emotions," he said, " and are especially helpful for children and adults who struggle in social communication." Children often came from challenging backgrounds: many lived in poverty, or had to travel through dangerous neighborhoods to get to school, or shared a too-crowded home. When these emotionally needy children met the dogs, they relaxed and were more prepared to learn.Just as important, dogs on school grounds set a positive, welcoming tone. They help preserve the school climate that is accepting, supportive and curious. " Dogs are one way to hold on to that," Sindler said, adding that "schools should be fun and exciting, and dogs can be a big part of that. "For Sindler, including Cameron was all part of an effort to create a safe environment where learning could flourish.28. What makes the dog Cameron really special?A. His rare categoryB. His particular birthmark.C. His attractive appearance.D. His companionable nature.29. How do dogs on campus improve students' social and emotional well-being?A. By playing fetch together fondly.B. By offering them comfort equally.C. By playing basketball together freely.D. By walking a long way together happily.30. What does the underlined word "that" in Paragraph 5 refer to??A. A positive tone.B. The school ground.C. A welcoming attitude.D. The school atmosphere.31. What's the purpose of the passage?A. To encourage schools to bring in more dogs.B. To explain why dogs help students with learning.C. To introduce a way to help students grow healthily.D. To explore the possibility to challenge no-dog rules.DIn the past 50 years, the amount of water in the open ocean with zero oxygen has gone up more than fourfold. In coastal water bodies, including river mouths and seas, low-oxygen sites have increased more than tenfold since 1950.Scientists expect oxygen to continue dropping even outside these zones as Earth warms .“Oxygen is fundamental to life in the Oceans,”said Denise Breitburg, a marine ecologist with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. “The decline in ocean oxygen ranks among the most serious effects of human activities o n the Earth ’s environment. Actually, it's a great loss to all the support services that rely on recreation and tourism, including hotels and restaurants and taxi drivers and everything else. The reverberations(严重影响) of unhealthy ecosystems in the ocean can be extensive.”In areas traditionally called “dead zones" , like those in Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, oxygen plummets(大幅下跌) to so low levels that many animals die. As fish avoid these zones, their habitats become smaller and they’ re easier to be attacked or caught. But the problem goes far beyond “dead zones”. Even smaller oxygen decline can prevent growth in animals, hinder reproduction and lead to disease or even death. It also can cause the release of dangerous chemicals such as nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas up to 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. While some animals can boom in “dead zones”,overall biodiversity falls.Climate change is the key criminal in the open ocean. Warming surface waters make it harder for oxygen to reach the inside of the ocean. Furthermore, as the ocean as a whole gets warmer, it holds less oxygen. In coastal waters, too much nutrient pollution from land creates algal blooms, which use up oxygen as they die and break down.People's livelihoods are also on the line, the scientists reported, especially in developing nations. Smaller fisheries(渔场)may be unable to relocate when low oxygen destroys their harvests or forces fish to move elsewhere. So we humans have to carry on a war now and win the war.32. What does the first paragraph mainly talk about?A. The ocean has been losing its oxygen.B. The amount of sea water is increasing.C. The coastal water bodies are dangerous.D. The Earth becomes warmer and warmer.33. What can we infer from Denise Breitburg's words?A. Different oceans have different levels of oxygen.B. The decline in ocean oxygen has great influences.C. The future of tourism relies on the levels of ocean oxygen.D. The decrease in ocean oxygen is the most serious environment problem.34. How does the “dead zone" affect sea animals?A. It offers more food.B. It forms dangerous gas.C. It reduces their living areas.D. It produces more carbon dioxide.35.How can we win the war according to the text?A. By closing smaller fisheries.B. By controlling humans' bad activities.C. By improving people's living standards.D. By stopping nutrients entering the ocean.第二节(共5小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Why?By adding live streaming to the platform, these marketplaces can deliver the closest possible experience to“being there”for online buyers.Real-time interactivity offers the urgency of a real marketplace, urging immediate action and improving community participation.Live Auctions(拍卖)Live streaming opens up the auction items to those unable to physically attend, reaches participants with varying interests and ensures that each item sells at its proper valuation.Online auctions are big business, and real-time video delivery is critical.Whether auctioning off pets or fine art,any delay in a live stream could prevent bids(出价)from being recorded properly.Several milliseconds can translate to billions of dollars.Influencer StreamingToday’s celebrities aren’t necessarily on the big screen. An increasing number of stars rise to fame via social media each day. With a large number of faithful fans, influencers can use their personal brand and the power of live streaming to promote their favorite products in an interactive way.Influencer streaming originated on social media, but has now become commonplace across e-business sites as well.Live EventsNewsworthy events, such as product launches and limited edition drops, increase the popularity of live stream marketing.Today, shoppable mobile streaming allows fans to purchase items in real time from the catwalks(T型走秀台)of Louis Vuitton and Victoria’s Secret.1.How does live video streaming affect online marketplaces?A.It makes goods more popular.B.It keeps shop owners interested.C.It offers a real experience of offline shopping.D.It makes online shopping more like offline shopping.2.What can we know about online auctions?A.They bring convenience for people physically attending.B.They make it necessary to have high speed Internet access.C.They make sure that every item can finally be sold online.D.They provide opportunities of making great fortune overnight.3.Which works as the easiest way for Internet celebrities getting into e-business?A.Online Marketplaces.B.Live Auctions.C.Influencer Streaming.D.Live Events.BEarth's longest artificial structure is usually said to be the Great Wall of China while the second-longest is not a wall, but a fence. It stretches for5,614km across eastern Australia and is intendedto stop the country's wild dogs, the dingoes, from hunting sheep.Australia's dingo fence does not stand lions of kilometres of fences wrap the world. Some are intended to limit the movement of animals, some the movement of people, and some merely to mark the boundary.Until recently, data on the effects of fences on wildlife have been inadequate. That has changed with the publication of a report by professor Alex McInturff. One discovery he has made is that more than halfof published fence research focuses on just five countries-America,Australia,Botswana,China and South Africa.A second is that only a third of these studies examined the impact of fences on anything other than the target species involved, meaning the animals purposely intended to be kept in or out.Non-target species, however, are often those that have their fortunes most greatly reshaped by the appearance of poles and wire.Australian fences intended to keep out dingoes are also barriers to long-necked turtles, which travel great distances over land when moving between nesting sites. In Botswana fences built to spare cattle from wildlife-borne disease result in serious interference with wildebeest(角马)migrations. Not every creature fares(进展)badly.Hawks(鹰)in Montana gladly sit on newly built livestock fences to hunt small animals, while fence-based spiders in South Africa outperform their tree-based cousins when it comes to catching insects.Often, though, the winners are creatures that cause trouble for existing ecosystems.Keeping dingoes out of large parts of Australia has allowed aggressive red foxes to multiply.Native rodents(啮齿类动物)have suffered as a result. Some have been brought to the edge of extinction.4.Which is a purpose of building fences?A.To expand the boundary of a country.B.To protect livestock like sheep and cattle.C.To stop wild animals from being hunted.D.To help people move around freely.5.What can we learn about the studies on fences?A.Data on the impact of fences have been proved.B.Previous researches were complete and systematic.C.About two-thirds of the studies focus on the target animals.D.Not all studies examined the effect of fences on wildlife.6.Which animals unexpectedly benefit from fences?A.Cattle in Botswana.B.Wildebeest in Botswana.C.Red foxes in Australia.D.Native rodents in Australia.7.Where can the text be found?A.In a wildlife-protection brochureB.In a blog on wildlifeC.In a wildlife magazineD.In a wildlife forumCIn2016in an Illinois town called Cahokia,a woman was sent to prison just because she failed to tend her lawn(草坪).In2019,a Florida man was fined$30,000by the city of Dunedin for allowing his grass to grow more than10inches in height. These examples, while extreme, are not rare occurrence in America.A study estimated that turf grasses(lawns, parks, athletic fields, etc)cover over40million acres in the continental U.S.,an area larger than any crop area. And Americans spend as much as$60billion a year maintaining these grasses. These impressive data are the result of Americans’setting much store on these pieces of greenery for several centuries.Centuries ago, only those with considerable wealth could own the resources needed to maintain these displays. In the modern world, lawns have gradually changed from the estates of the wealthy to the front yards of common people.Across America, millions of families now proudly present their grass to their neighbors and drivers by carefully weeding, watering, fertilizing and mowing these small-scale representations of the grounds. With this context in mind,it’s easy to see well-tended lawns in America.People tend to use lawns to create an impression of order or to indicate a sense of personal success. The relative health and attractiveness of the grass in their yard becomes a barometer(晴雨表)for their life as a whole. However, with so many acres covered by the grass, the influence associated with lawn maintenance is more than just psychological. To begin with,a lawn requires massive quantities of resources to sustain. The U.S.Department of Agriculture estimates that lawns account for about half of homeowner’s water use, much of which is wasted.Additionally,Americans are reported to use80million pounds of chemicals on their lawns each year. The process of tending the lawn also contributes to air pollution. These surprising data mean we need to question whether lawns provide us with enough benefit to justify their widespread existence.8.Why are the two lawn-related cases mentioned in the first paragraph?A.To explain the effectiveness of American lawsB.To show the significance of lawns in American society.C.To stress Americans’awareness of environmental protection.D.To reveal the cost of maintaining lawns in Americans’daily life.9.What does the underlined part in the second paragraph mean?A.Making full use of.B.Facing the consequence of.C.Attaching great importance to.D.Shouldering the responsibility for.10.Why do Americans have a preference for well-tended lawns?A.Because of the psychological function of lawns.B.Because of the popularity of lawns in Americans’lifeC.Because of the purpose of placing barometers in lawns.D.Because of the method of planting healthy and attractive lawns.11.What can we know about the lawns in the U.S.according to the passage?A.They will be expanded to cover more lands.B.They are of significant environmental concerns.C.They will motivate people to be health-conscious.D.They can promote the development of the chemical industry.DA study led by Plana-Ripoll,a doctor at Aarhus University in Denmark, tries to deal with a fundamental question that has bothered researchers for more than a century—what exactly causes mental illness? In the hope of finding the answer, scientists have piled up a large amount of data over the past decade, through studies of genes and brain activity. They have found that many of the same genes underlie(构成...的基础)seemingly distinct disorders and that changes in the brain’s decision-making systems could be involved in many conditions. The researchers are also rethinking theories of how our brains go wrong. The idea that mental illness can be classified into distinct, separate categories like“anxiety”has been disproved(驳倒)to a large extent.Instead, recently they’ve found that disorders shade into each other, and there are no hard dividing lines. The researchers are trying to understand the biology that underlies mental illness. They have a few theories.Perhaps there are several dimensions of mental illness,so depending on how a person scores on each dimension, they might be more likely to have some disorders than others. An alternative idea is that there is a single factor that makes people easier to suffer from mental illness in general. What disorder they develop is then determined by other factors. Both ideas are being taken seriously though the former one is more widely accepted by the researchers. The details are still unclear, but most researchers agree that one thing is specific:The old system of categorizing mental disorders into neat boxes does not work. They are also hopeful that,in the long run, replacing this framework with one that is grounded in biology will lead to new drugs and treatments. The researchers aim to reveal, for instance, the key genes, brain regions and neurological processes involved in psychopathology(精神病理学),and target them with treatments.Although it might take a while to getthere, they are long-term optimistic if the field really does its work.12.What aspect of mental illness has been puzzling researchers according to the text?A.Its symptoms.B.Its roots.C.Its categories.D.Its theories.13.What have the researchers found from the recent study?A.There exist links between mental disorders.B.Brain function has little to do with mental illness.C.Mental illness is classified into different categories.D.Genes are completely different in distinct mental disorders.14.Which one is more widely accepted by the researchers according to paragraph4?A.The theory of genetic influences.B.The belief of brain abnormalities.C.The concept of multiple dimensions.D.The idea of the determined risk factor.15.What can we learn about mental illness from the text?A.Hunting for its biology might help.B.Its genes are too complex to study.C.Scientists are clear about its details.D.Its new drugs could be available soon.第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Visitors should show ID card before entering.BThis was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. As I searched the name, I found that there were two famous people having the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts(花生), while the other led some sort of army across America. I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant. I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice; let the coin decide. I flipped(掷) a coin and Ah! Tails (背面)! My report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter, George Washington Carver.Weeks later, I stood in front of the classroom and proudly read my homework. But things started to get strange. I looked around the room, only to find my classmates with big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes and my stone-faced teacher.I was completely lost. “What could be causing everyone to act this way?”Oh well, I dropped the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report, it all became clear, “My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American War of Independence.” The whole world became quiet! How could I know that my teacher meant that George Washington?Of course, my subject result was awful. Sad but fearless, I decided to turn this around. I talked to the headmaster Miss Lancelot, but she said firmly: No re-dos; no new score. I felt that it was not fair, and I believed I deserved a second chance. So I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the scho ol year. Ten months later, I sat in the headmaster’s office again, but this time a completely different conversation. I smiled and flashed back to the terrible moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster told me I was good enough to skip(跳过) the 6th grade and started the 7th grade next term.24._______ helped me decide what my report would be about.A. The toys, which will be closely similar to classic ones, will also feature “botanical(植物)elements” like leaves, bushes, and trees. The pieces will be included in LEGO’S box sets from this year onwards. The move is part of the Danish company’s campaign to use sustainable materials in its products by 2030.Howeve r, Tim Brooks, the firm’s vice-president, said, “We want to make a positive influence on the world around us, and are working hard to make great play products for children using sustainable materials. This is a great first step in our goal to make all LEGO pieces using sustainable materials.”The new line of production has reportedly already started with pieces being produced from polyethylene, which is a soft and durable plastic (耐用的塑料). LEGO says that we needn’t worry about the quality of the new products, as they’ ve tested the plant-based plastic to ensure that it meets the high standards for quality and safety that consumers (消费者) expect from the company.“LEGO products have always been about providing high quality play experiences and giving every chil d the chance to shape their own world through inventive(有创造力的) play. Children and parents will not notice any difference in the quality or appearance of the new pieces, because plant-based polyethylene has the same qualities as traditional polyethylene,” s aid Tim Brooks.“It is important that companies in each industry find ways to help ensure a future where people, nature, and the economy grow healthily,” said Alix Grabowski, an officer at WWF. “The LEGO Group’s decision to use sustainable plastics represents a great opportunity to reduce dependence on finite (有限的) resources, and their work with the Bioplastic Feedstock Alliance will allow them to connect with other companies to continue to think creatively about sustainability.”28.What do we know about LEGO company?A.They have designed many new products.B.They are worried about the quality of the new products.C.They go green with sugar cane-based plastic.D.They failed to make great play products for children.29.What can we infer from Tim Brooks’ words?A.Plant-based materials are of high qualities as traditional materials.B.Consumers expect high standards for quality and safety from LEGO.C.LEGO wants to make more products.D.LEGO needn’t test the new products.30.What does Alix Grabowski think of LEG O Group’s decision?A.It is of no importance to our future.B.It makes other companies more competitive.C.It sets a good example for other companies.D.It is mainly dependent on finite resources.31.How can we comment on Lego’s new products?A.Environmentally friendly and safe. B.Creative and safe.C.Fashionable and popular. D.Sustainable and popular.DWhen something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, “Well, it’s so-and-so’s fault.” or “I know Pm late, but it’s not my fault; the car broke d own.” It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or, you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don’t rely on this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to w ork successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well. This is what being a winner is all about—-creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; the y have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So, stop focusing on “whose fault it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.32.According to the passage, winners ________.A.deal with problems rather than blame othersB.meet with fewer difficulties in their livesC.have responsible and able colleaguesD.blame themselves rather than others33.The underlined word “remedy” means ________.A.avoid B. accept C.improve D.consider34.When problems happen, winners take them as ________.A.excuses for their failures B.barriers to greater powerC.challenges to their colleagues D.chances for self-development35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A.A Winner’s Problem. Nowadays women appear to have a positive image of themselves as safer drivers than men.In a survey done by insurer MetLife, 51% of women said they drive more safely. The evidence is on their side: Men are 3.4 times more likely than women to get a ticket for careless driving and 3.1 times as likely to be punished for drunk driving. “Women are on average less aggressive and more law abiding(手法的) drivers, which leads to fewer accidents,” the report says. However, not all male drivers share the same opinion. Of the men surveyed by MetLife, 39% claimed male drivers were safer. The findings did back them up on one point: automotive knowledge. The report showed that more men are familiar with current safety equipment such as electronic stability control, which helps prevent rollover accidents.Auto safety unavoidably matters to money. Insurance companies focus on what classes of drivers have the lowest dollar amounts of claims, and for now, that mainly includes women. In general, women pay about 9% less for auto insurance than men. A study by the website Insweb also showed that auto insurance rates are lower for women in most states. Among individual states, women get the greatest advantage in Wyoming(where they pay 20% less), South Dakota and Washington, D.C., where their insurance costs are 16% lower.“More than 11,9000 male drivers died in U.S. traffic accident in 2009, compared with just under 4,900 women drivers,” according to the study. “Based on miles traveled, men died at a rate of 2.5 deaths per 100 million miles traveled, vs. 1.7 deaths for women.”24.According to the study, male drivers __________.A.are less aggressive while drivingB.are more skilled at auto knowledgeC.are more likely to stick to driving lawsD.are less familiar with safety equipment25.Insurance companies focus on female driver clients(客户) probably because they __________.A.cause more accidents on the road but ask for littleB.cause little damage and pay more money to the insurance companiesC.are more careful drivers and cause less damageD.make up the most part of the insurance clients26.We can infer from the passage that __________.A.men are 3.1 times more likely to get tickets than womenB.all women in the USA pay the same for their auto insuranceC.more female drivers die every year than male driversD.women are generally safer drivers than the opposite sex27.The writer mainly develops paragraphs by __________.A.giving examples B.making comparisonsC.drawing a conclusion D.presenting an argumentModern day robots may not be as entertaining as R2D2 or the robot from Lost in Space, but robots are very important to space exploration and are being used in a variety of different ways for several important reasons.Robots make great explorers on planets, moons, and other landing areas. Aside from the earth, just about every surface in the solar system is unsafe for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is insufficient fortunate for humans to explore. The air on most other planets is insufficient for humans to breathe, making it necessary to wear a space suit and oxygen equipment. The temperatures on these surfaces are much too hot or much too cold for any humans to withstand. Plus there would be complications with radiation, weather, and a lack of gravity. Robots have much less limitation in these areas and can survive much longer under these conditions.Robots are designed for collecting scientific data. Robots are also able to perform many tasks at one time and can process information much quicker and more efficiently. Important scientific projects from detecting minerals, analyzing ground samples, to finding water are all performed much quicker and accurately by robots. The use of robots has made the cost of space exploration much less expensive than it would cost for humans to do the work. In order to successfully send humans into space we would need to build a vehicle that can not only carry humans, but also enough | food and water to keep them alive for the duration of the trip. Moreover, robots have no problems working for hours on end. Robots never complain, they don’t require food or water, and they never need a bathroom break.Over the past 30 years or so there have been many different types of robots used successfully in the exploration of space. Perhaps the most famous and successful robots are Spirit and Opportunity who have both been exploring the surface of Mars. They have both been very successful with experiments on soil and rocks and have even found evidence of water in Mars’ history.28.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.The Development of Robots B.The Discovery of Space ExplorationC.No Robots, No Space Exploration D.Robots Are Used in Space Exploration29.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A.The use of robots in space exploration costs more than the use of humans.B.It is dangerous for. humans to explore other surfaces in the solar system except the earth.C.Both Spirit and Opportunity have found the evidence of water on Mars.D.Many different types of robots have explored the space successfully.30.The underlined word “withstand” in paragraph 2 most probably means “______”A.remain B.bearC.defeat D.develop31.What is the writer’s attitude in this passage?A.Negative. B.Persuasive.C.Subjective. D.Objective.How could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments -mostly for entertainment purposes - is fair and respectful? Zoo officials say they are concerned about animals. However, most zoos remain “collections” of interesting “things” rather than protective habitats.Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals bored, lonely, and far from their natural homes. Zoos claim to educate people and save endangered species, but visitors leave zoos without having learned anything meaningful about the animals’ natural behavior, intelligence, or beauty. Zoos keep animals in small spaces or cages, and most signs only mention the species’ name, diet, and natural range. The animals’ normal behavior is seldom noticed because zoos don’t usually take care of the animals’ natural needs. The animals are kept together in small spaces, with no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. This results in unusually and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis. A worldwide study of zoos found that zoochosis is common among animals kept in small spaces or cages. Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage bars, and bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and forth, a sign of unhappiness and pain.Furthermore, most animals in zoos are not endangered. Captive breeding(圈养繁殖) of endangered big cats, Asian elephants, and other species has not resulted in their being sent back to the wild. Zoos talk a lot about their captive breeding programs because they do not want people to worry about a species dying out. In fact, baby animals also attract a lot of paying customers. Haven’t we seen enough competitions to name baby animals?Actually, we will save endangered species only if we save their habitats and put an end to the reasons people kill them. Instead of supporting zoos, we should support groups that work to protect animals’ natural habitats.32.How would the author describe the animals’ life in zoos?A.Dangerous. B.Unhappy.C.Natural. D.Easy.33.In the state of zoochosis, animals _________.A.remain in cages B.behave strangelyC.attack other animals D.enjoy moving around34.What does the author try to argue in the passage?A.Zoos are not worth the public support.B.Zoos fail in their attempt to save animals.C.Zoos should treat animals as human beings.D.Zoos use animals as a means of entertainment.35.The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by _________.A.pointing out the faults in what zoos doB.using evidence he has collected at zoosC.questioning the way animals are protectedD.discussing the advantages of natural habitatsLast week the British university system offered a record number of places. That sounds like good news—but do we really need more people to go to university? For that matter, does the world need more universities? The answer feels like it should be yes.Education is good, is it not? But everything has a cost.Education takes time. We could insist that everyone study full-time until the age of 45 but that would surely be too much. And perhaps half the population studying until they’re 21 is also too much. As for universities, they consume financial and intellectual resources—perhaps those resources might be better spent elsewhere. My own personal opinion is strongly in favor both of going to university, and of simply having universities around. The main skill I learnt at university was to write about economics, and I use that skill every day of my professional life, even an abstract education seems practical to me. And I now live in Oxford, one of the world’s most celebrated (著名的) university cities. Oxford’s experience certainly suggests that universities have much to offer. The city’s architecture and green spaces have been shaped—greatly for the better, on balance —by the 900-year-old institution at its heart. The beauty attracts tourists and locals too.But these are samples of one. Many people do not find themselves using the skills and knowledge they accumulated at university. And Oxford’s dreaming spires (尖顶) aren’t terribly representative of global universities as a whole.36.Which of the following is the most proper title?A.Does the world need more universities?B.Is education really necessary?C.Is British university system the best?D.Do you prefer universities abroad?37.Which of the following about the writer is TRUE?A.He is an economist now.B.He likes Oxford’s architecture and green spaces most.C.The skill he learnt at university is practical in his career.D.He holds the view that going to univeristy is a waste of resources.38.The writer develops the passage by ______.A.comparing his experience with others’B.persuading us with his own experience and opinionC.describing and sharing his own university experienceD.informing us of the advantages of universities39.What’s the meaning of the word “consume” in Paragraph 4?A.use B.provideC.delight D.raise40.In the following part, the writer is likely to ______.A.list more supporting details about his opinionB.show more disadvantages about going to universitiesC.present some opposite opinions about universitiesD.draw a conclusion about the topic三、七选五How to Love Your ParentsEven if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part, a source of who you are.41.Tell them you love them every morning.A gentle "good morning" and "I love you" will warm a coldest heart. In general, women pay about 9% less for auto insurance than men.A study by the website Insweb also showed that auto insurance rates are lower for women in most states. 1.7 deaths for women.”24. The writer mainly develops paragraphs by __________.A. giving examplesB. making comparisonsC. drawing a conclusionD. presenting an argumentCModern day robots may not be as entertaining as R2D2 or the robot from Lost in Space, but robots are very important to space exploration and are being used in a variety of different ways for several important reasons.Robots make great explorers on planets, moons, and other landing areas. Robotshave much less limitation in these areas and can survive much longer under these conditions.Robots are designed for collecting scientific data. They have both been very successful with experiments on soil and rocks and have even found evidence of water in Mars’ history.28.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A. The Development of RobotsB. The Discovery of Space ExplorationC. No Robots, No Space ExplorationD. Robots Are Used in Space Exploration29.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A. The use of robots in space exploration costs more than the use of humans.B. It is dangerous for. humans to explore other surfaces in the solar system except the earth.C. Both Spirit and Opportunity have found the evidence of water on Mars.D. Many different types of robots have explored the space successfully.30.The underlined word “withstand” most probably means “______”A. remainB. bearC. defeatD. develop31.What is the writers attitude in this passage?A. Negative.B. Persuasive.C. Subjective.D. Objective.DHow could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments -mostly for entertainment purposes - is fair and respectful? The anim als are kept together in small spaces, with no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. Instead of supporting zoos, we should support groups that work to protect animals’ natural habitats.32.How would the author describe the animals’ life in zoos?A. Dangerous.B. Unhappy.C. Natural.D. Easy.33.In the state of zoochosis, animals _________.A. remain in cagesB. behave strangelyC. attack other animalsD. enjoy moving around34.What does the author try to argue in the passage?A. Zoos are not worth the public support.B. Zoos fail in their attempt to save animals.C. Zoos should treat animals as human beings.D. Zoos use animals as a means of entertainment.35.The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by _________.A. pointing out the faults in what zoos doB. using evidence he has collected at zoosC. questioning the way animals are protectedD. discussing the advantages of natural habitatsE.Last week the British university system offered a record number of places. My own personal opinion is strongly in favor both of going to university, andof simply having universities around. And Oxford’s dreaming spires (尖顶) aren’t terribly representative of global universities as a whole.36. Which of the following is the most proper title?A. Does the world need more universities?B. Is education really necessary?C. Is British university system the best?D. Do you prefer universities abroad?37.Which of the following about the writer is TRUE?A. He is an economist now.B. He likes Oxford’s architecture and green spaces most.C. The skill he learnt at university is practical in his career.D. He holds the view that going to univeristy is a waste of resources.38. The writer develops the passage by ______.A. comparing his experience with others’B. persuading us with his own experience and opinionC. describing and sharing his own university experienceD. informing us of the advantages of universities39. What’s the meaning of the word “consume” in Paragraph 4?A. useB. provideC. delightD. raise40. In the following part, the writer is likely to ______.A. list more supporting details about his opinionB. show more disadvantages about going to universitiesC. present some opposite opinions about universitiesD. draw a conclusion about the topic第二节(共5小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
