M: What are you going to do?
W: I’m going swimming, down at the beach. What about you?
M: I’m going running. I’m practising for a competition next month.
Text 2
W: I hear the new restaurant on Grant Street is pretty good.
M: I don’t think so. Its service is slow. Yeah, the atmosphere is wonderful. But what’s important to you, good food or nice atmosphere? I’ll never go there again.
Text 3
W: I like this dress very much, but its colour...
M: You know, Madam, the bright yellow lights in the shop make things a little different here. That’s why the blue dress appears green.
Text 4
M: Ticket! Where is my train ticket? Have you seen it, Mum?
W: I saw it in the bathroom while I did cleaning there.
M: The bathroom? So strange... Oh, you’re right. Got it.
Text 5
W: I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.
M: I didn’t know I was invited.
W: Sure you are! Everyone on the winning team was invited.
Text 6
W: Have you seen the film Oliver Twist, which was on since last Saturday?
M: Yes, I went last Sunday. How about you?
W: I saw it on Monday. Not bad, is it?
M: Mm, it made me want to read the novel again.
W:Yeah, it really brought the world of the novel to me.
Text 7
W: George! It’s so lovely to see you again! It must be ages since we last met.
M: Oh, I suppose it is. But weren’t you at Michael’s birthday party on August 20th last year?
W: No. I wasn’t. I got the flu at the last minute and I went to the hospital instead. I think the last time I saw you was three years ago at Christmas, when we all had dinner together in that Indian restaurant.
M: No, surely we’ve met since then...Wait a minute... It was at Peter’s place, when he and Jenny got married.
W: Yes, of course it was! It was a wonderful wedding.
Text 8
M: Lucy, how can you eat so much chocolate and still stay slim and fit?
W: Simple. I exercise a lot.
M: Really? I want to, too, but I don’t know what sports to do since we don’t have PE lessons.
W: That’s true, but there are so many sports teams and sports clubs you can join. M: I guess so. Well, I really like basketball.
W: We can go along together. The basketball club meets every Tuesday evening. M: I like to exercise when I want. I don’t like to follow a schedule all the time.
W: Then you could join the gym.
M: Oh, that sounds good. What equipment do they have?
W: There are all kinds of machines, like the running machines and exercise bikes. M: Sounds great. Let’s go!
W: Ok.
Text 9
W: Hello, Mike. It’s Carrion here.I’ve just been reading a paper and I find a job advertised on it will be perfect for you.
M: Oh, what’s the job?
W: They want a marketing manager. Isn’t that the kind of thing you’re looking for? M: Yes. Does it say what the job involves?
W: The main thing seems to be that you’ll be in charge of sales planning.
M: well, what sort of people are they looking for? I suppose they want me to have an MBA.
W: There’s nothing about that. But it does say that they’re looking for someone who can speak foreign languages. Well, that’s OK for you because you’ve lived abroad and you can speak German, don’t you?
M: Yes, and Spanish, too. When do the applications have to be completed?
W: The3rd of July is the closing date. So you have exactly a month to complete. Do you want me to e-mail you the advert so you can see it yourself?
M: Yes. That’ll be great.
W: OK. I’ll do that now.
Text 10
M: Hi there everyone. I hope Ron covered everything at the meeting at lunchtime. Just in case you’re not sure, I’ll give you details about the trip today and about what you’ll be doing tomorrow. Depending on traffic, this journey should take about 6 hours, so we’ll be in Newcastle at 8 o’clock this evening. There’ll be dinner as soon as we get there. The camp manager normally makes us excellent food. There are
two people to a tent, and please make sure you get the right one! Erm, the camp manager’s got a list of which tent you will be in, so don’t worry. Tomorrow you have to be up and out at 7:30 for breakfast. You’ll start to prepare for the music festival at 10:00 a.m. We’ll need at least 3 hours’ work to get things ready. The festival opens at one in the afternoon, and you’ll get a chance to go and see some of the bands play---please let me know when you want your 2 hours off. Anyway, I hope we can have a good trip, and I’m sure the festival is going to be wonderful.。
