ATaj Mahal, Agra, IndiaAs many as 28 different varieties of semi-precious and precious stones were used to decorate the outside of the Taj Mahai. Construction of the Taj Mahai took around 20 years, beginning in around 1632 and finishing around 1653. Exact dates are unknown. The building, which was made from white marble from the quarries(采石场)of Rajasthan, appears pink in the morning, white in the day and golden in the moonlight. The building is symmetrical (对称) in every way, and was built as a memorial to the wife of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Completion date: 1653.Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, Akashi Strait, JapanIt took 2 million workers 10 years to construct the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It connects the city of Kobe, on japan's mainland, with Iwaya on Awaji Island. Before it opened, the only way to get between the two cities was by ferry. However, the waterway was often stricken by severe storms and when two ferries turned over in 1955, killing 168 people, public anger convinced the government of the need for a bridge. It's 1,991 meters long. Completion date: April 5, 1998.Panama Canal, PanamaMore than 4.5 million cubic yards of concrete were used in the construction of this canal's locks and dams. The Panama Canal is a 77-kilometer long waterway that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. A series of locks allows shipsto pass through the water; each of the moveable lock doors weighs 750 tons and each of the locks fills with 52 million gallons of water to accommodate the 15,000 ships that use the canal every year. It was completed on January 7, 1914 after 10 years of building.Grand Canyon Skywalk, ArizonaThe Skywalks foundation is strong enough to support 71 million pounds. It was after I saw an advertisement in a newspaper looking for people to join a team to ski 350 miles to the North Pole. Back in 1996, there had never been a woman from the UK who had accomplished this challenge. I wondered what此卷只装订不密封班级 姓名 准考证号 考场号 座位号it would be like to survive in temperatures cold enough to freeze your flesh in seconds, so I sent off for the application form. The application form full of pictures of male explores arrived. The w ords “Are you man enough for the ultimate(极限的)challenge?” made me angry and even more determined to get on the team.Over 500 individuals applied for a place in the team, and the selection process included physical and psychological tests designed to pick the best group. In one test, there was a huge rope ladder we had to climb, and I froze at the top because I have a fear of heights.I thought my hopes were fading as most other applicants sailed past, leaving me behind. But two others helped me over, and later I found out that the organizers were not looking for amazing individuals, but great team players, and this moment had shown them who would take care of others in the team.I had revealed(显示)my weakness, and in a place like the Arctic, you have to be yourself, as there is nowhere to hide. These personalities of asking for help and showing weakness are necessary for women to master.I realized that by being myself, I could succeed. I was selected for the team. To inspire us to prepare for our future goal.B. To advise women how to turn to others.C. To make suggestions to her team members.D. To encourage people to explore the unknown.CLi ke “Titanic (1997)” and another record- breaking “Avatar (2009)”, the very first film to hit one billion yuan at China’s box office, both directed by James Cameron, American films are an unavoidable part and hold plenty of appeal for Chinese film-goers, including me. However, while American movies have gained great influence in China and become part of everyday popular culture, Chinese films have failed to win an equal amount of recognition in the U.S. market.Hollywood, known as a remarkable film production center, exported the biggest number of mainstream movies around the globe. Both its marvelous storytelling techniques and smooth production process have made it the most successful film industry in the world, gaining global acceptance. It has its own standards about the scriptwriting format throughout its filmmaking process while China has no such. Moreover, in Hollywood, a break during the production period is a must for all crew members whereas most Chinese film crew do not even allow their production team time to rest on the weekend.Besides production, content is another important aspect of Hollywood’s cultural exportation. The United States is known as a melting pot, as it is a country of immigrants. Its culture, in a way, is more diversified than oth ers’. And we can see an increased diversity in Hollywood movies over the years, especially since 2000. For example, in 2017, Hollywood blockbuster (大片) “Coco (2017)” tells the story of a Mexican boy who dreams of being a musician. Full of elements of the Mexican culture, the movie caused a global fever for Mexican music at the time. It also achieved great results in China, ranking as the 10th highest grossing (最高票房) film in the country in2017, with the box office being over one billion yuan.In contrast, China’s highest grossing film of 2017, “Wolf Warrior 2”, despite having created a new record in the country’s box office, did not get too much attenti on in the U. S. market. In fact, there is hardly any Chinese movie that has become a blockbuster inforeign markets. One of the reasons may be that most Chinese films only tell domestic stories with strong domestic elements, which is not wrong but makes it hard to attract foreign viewers due to the narrow themes. While seeking to tell Chinese stories that are able to gain global popularity is still a question for Chinese filmmakers, fortunately, the technical aspect in the Chinese film industry has been improving thanks to the abundant cash flow in the market. When that day comes, more people will get a chance to learn more about China, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, which reminds me of the famous quote from “The Shawshank Redemption (1994)”, “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.”28.What can we conclude from the passage?A.Chinese films are not well worth watching compared with Hollywood movies. B.Chinese films are in a sense not as popular globally despite abundant cash flow. C.Who directed China’s highest grossing film of 2017, “Wolf Warrior 2” is evident. D.American films global acceptance is bound to worsen the Chinese film industry greatly. 29.Why do most Chinese films hardly attract foreign viewers?A.Because they have no knowledge of Chinese filmmakers.B.Because the Chinese culture is more diversified than others’.C.Because they only tells Chinese stories with strong domestic elements. D.Because in China there is no unusually successful hit like Hollywood Blockbuster. 30.What is the main idea of the passage?A.American films have gained great influence in China.B.How Chinese stories affect the American film market.C.The outline about the history and development of Hollywood.D.Why Chinese films fail to gain much recognition in the U. S market.31.What is the author’s opinio n towards the present situation of Chinese films? A.Contradictory. B.Objective.C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent.DDuring Amsterdam’s chaotic rush hour, nine -year-old Lotta Crok cycles to a very busy junction. “Look,” she says. “There’s traffic coming from eve rywhere. Four trams from four different directions. For a child on a bike that’s really confusing!”Lotta is the first junior cycle mayor in the world and her working area is the Dutch capital. You would think this challenge would be superfluous in a city known as the bicycle capital of the world. The number of bicycles in Amsterdam is estimated at 81,000 - more than the city’s 850,000 inhabitants - and 63% of the population cycle daily. But children who cycle in Amsterdam face challenges, Lotta says: “The three biggest problems for us are cars, cycling tourists and scooters (小型摩托). The cars take up too much space, the tourists are always swinging side to side and stop when you least expect it, and the scooters simply run you over.”Lotta became junior cycle mayor in June last year when she won a contest in which school children were asked to come up with plans to make cycling safer and more fun. Her idea was to add children’s bikes to the popular bike share programme.Since Lotta was appointed junior cycle mayor, she has been busy, giving interviews, opening cycling contests in the city and being a jury (评审员) member during the Amsterdam Light Parade, an event in which Amsterdammers decorate their bikes with lights. She is now planning a meeting with the city’s mayor to discuss ideas that children have come up with: “One of our proposals is a bicycle park where children can learn how to cycle. Right now, most of us learn a it in the street, which can be quite busy. Another idea is to create an app for tourists to teach them the rules of cycling, because most of them really don’t know.”Following the success of the Amsterdam scheme, cycle mayors around the world are now planning to appoint junior colleagues. “They see it works really well,” Boerma, the senior maj or, says. “I talk to the parents, Lotta talks to the children. And if you look at the city through the eyes of a child, you will also make it accessible for others. A city that’s good for an eight-year-old is also good for an 88-year-old.”32.Why is a junior cycle mayor appointed in Amsterdam?A.To teach children how to ride.B.To ensure cycling is safer for children.C.To give suggestions to the city’s mayor on how to run the city.D.To organize the cycling contests in the city.33.Which word can best rep lace the underlined word “superfluous” in paragraph 2?A.Important. B.Unnecessary.C.Difficult. D.Valuable.34.What has Lotta done since she became the bike mayor?A.She has solved the three biggest problems for children cycling in Amsterdam.B.She has won a contest about cycling.C.She has given interviews and been a jury member during a parade.D.She has given proposals to the city mayor.35.What’s Boerma’s attitude to the junior cycle mayor?A.Cautious. B.Favorable.C.Ambiguous. D.Disapproving.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

On Sunday a few of us decided to take advantage of the first sunny day we’d have for ages to take a trip down to the coast to visit the penguins again. Last time I went down there was a couple of months ago and it was adull cold day. Sunday couldn’t have been more different — clear skies and sunshine made it feel like summer, although it was still -25°C.Six of us dr ove to the coast. It was the first time we’d been off the base on our own without our field assistant, so it had a slightly different feeling — more like a few friends going to the seaside than anAntarctic field trip! When we reached Windy Creek, we luckily caught sight of quite a few small flying seabirds, which are seldom seen there. Once on the sea ice we found that some of the more curious penguins had wandered over from the main group to come and check us out. We’d been told that then they werenursing their chicks and they would be more careful and nervous than lasttime, but that didn’t seem to be the case . We walked across to the maingroup which were stretched for a couple of miles along the coast. We sat downfor some sandwiches and soon found ourselves surrounded by many curious observers. Without any attackers onland, they were very brave and came within a meter of us to pose for photos. Before heading back, we spent a few hours on the sea ice watching thepenguins and their chicks, which had grown dramatically since our last visit. It was such a nice day.1. I could be in east London, that is, until standard Chinese tones remind me I’m in Jingdezhen, a small Chinese city.Centuries ago, when Europeans first saw Chinese porcelain, it seemed so fine that they concluded it must have bee n made with magic and called it “ white gold ”.They couldn’t find out how it was made, but they knew where it came from:the town of Changnan. Changnan porcelain was so in demand that early traders began calling the whole country by this town name. Mixed by foreign tongues, Changnan transformed into China. Two million years after porcelain’s invention, the town, now called Jingdezhen, is still one of the world’s most important centers for porcelain production.“The people are the most important treas ure here. Their roots are deep in history.” says Zhang Jia. She’s part of a new wave of designers who havecome to Jingdezhen to learn techniques handed down and refined( 使精美 ) overa hundred generations. “This is the best place to study porcelain in China, perhaps in the entire world,” she added.Chinese artists aren’t the only ones drawn here. Founded in 2005 by Caroline Cheng, the Pottery Workshop runs classes for visitors from around the world. Paul told me that when he first visited Jingdezhen there were no street lamps and only dirty pavements. There were workshops but their goods were bought by traders and sold on elsewhere. These days, stylish cafes and bars pop up next to concept stores. At one such shop, I admired some tiny teacups like birds. With the popularity of the ottery Workshop, many of the designers are using Jingdezhen’s master craftsmen to make them because they know they offer quality, attention to detail.1. What made the writer realize that he was in China?A. Fine tea setsB. HandPDF-paintedearringsC. Standard ChineseD. Fine Chinese porcelain2. A safari park is a park in which wild animals are kept. They are mainly located in east or central Africa. They often occupy a very wild area, with mountains and rivers. To visit the park and look at the animals, people have to drive around — in a car for a few of hours because the park is huge.In south Africa there is a safari park, which contains all sorts of wild animals like lions, elephants, rhinoceroses(犀牛), zebras, wild pigs, deer and giraffes. There is a wild road leading through the park, but nobody is permitted to walk on the road. Anyone traveling in the park has to go in a car because wild animals may fiercely attack people. From the car he may see almost every typesof African wildlife. Some of these are getting scarce(稀有的) because people kill them for various reasons. For example, rhinoceroses are killed for their horns(角), which are used in traditional Chinese medicines for colds and headaches. "There's this view that you should suck it up and do one more thing." says the ER physician and host of CBC's White Coat, Black Art. But that "one more thing" often comes at Goldman's expense."You're exhausted and a patient or their family look at you with begging eyes," he says. "So you have this dilemma: say that your shift is over or give until you're totally spent?" Goldman's work stress combined with family tension after his mother was diagnosed with dementia 20 years ago. Caring for her over a decade was difficult, as was dealing with his father's grief. "When someone else is drowning you, you have to grab a life preserver and save yourself," says Goldman.Setting boundaries isn't just important for busy professionals; everyone can benefit from managing situations that cause undue stress or pain. Here are some tips.First, "If someone's behavior makes you unhappy - and it could be anything from the way they speak to you to repeatedly failing to stick to their promise - then there's room to set limits," says Patrick Keelan, a Calgary psychologist. We often avoid setting limits because we prioritize the happiness and comfort of others over ours. In order to control this impulse, Goldman suggests framing the development of boundaries as a for of self-kindness. When facing an overwhelming situation like the one he was in with his father, Goldman suggests reflecting on what is making you feel uncomfortable, unhappy or unappreciated. "You can't relate to others or be kind to others if you aren't kind to yourself," he says.Second, once you've become aware of your needs, setting and maintaining boundaries requires clear verbal communication. There are three obstacles to enforcing boundaries in a relationship: fear, guilt and self-doubt, says psychologist Nicole MaCance, We often fear that if we set limits, the other person will reject us, or we feel bad claiming our needs. Keelan proposes setting ground rules before relationships become tense. Start by cooperatively listing values - like mutual respect, support, and loyalty - and then building the guidelines from these values. I you're struggling to reach a consensus, keelan recommends engaging a third party, such as a therapist, to help. Now, if you want a boundary to stick to, you can't enable someone in breaking it. As such, it's crucial to establish consequences for transgressions(越轨). Otherwise, McMance says, "you're giving them permission to violate that boundary." If they won't respect your boundaries, you have to do some soul-searching about the value of the relationship. "When you feel bad more than you feel good in this person's presence, and when the relationship is impacting your self-worth and happiness, it's time to reassess," says McCance. Saying no is hard, but she suggests faming it as saying yes to healthier relationships."We're all better mothers and partners and brothers when we have boundaries."()58. What do we know about Goldman?A. He is in need of support in his work.B. He is caught between his work and life.C. He slides into the state of desperation.D. He always puts his family at the first place.()59. What do the underlined words "this impulse" refer to?A. prioritizing others' happinessB. avoiding setting limitsC. failing to stick to their promiseD. framing the development of boundaries()60. What's the best title of the passage?A. Do communicate.B. Do not cross.C. Identify your limits.D. Say no and mean it.CBabies have an astonishing talent that adults entirely lose. By the age of one, they can recognise the significant noises around the and group the into a language. When we have lost this capacity as adults, it becomes enormously difficult to distinguish between sounds that are glaringly different to a native speaker. It all sounds Greek to us. This is because the range of possible sounds that humans use to convey meaning may be as high as 2,000, but few languages use more than 100 and even then the significant noises - the phonemes(因素) of a language - each cover a range of sounds and so vague distinctions which would change the meaning of a word in other languages. But where do these phonemes come from and why do they shift over time? New research suggests that the apparently arbitrary distribution of some sounds around the world may be partially explained by dies. This is unexpected. We'd rather think of language as product of our thought, rather than of the arrangement of our teeth. In reality, though, any given language must be both.Hunter gatherer languages very seldom use the sounds known as labiodentals(唇齿音) - those such as f and v - that are made by touching the lower lip with the upper teeth. Only two of the hundreds of Australian aboriginal languages use them, for example. But in cultures that have discovered farming, these consonants(辅音) are much more common. The argument goes that farmers eat more cooked food and more dairy than hunter gatherers. Either way, they need to chew mush less, and to bite less with their front teeth. So farmers grew up with smaller lower jaws and more of an overbite than their ancestors who had to bite through harder foods. It became easier for the to make the labiodental consonants instead of purely labial(唇音) ones; one example is that f come to take the place of p. Romans said "pater" but English speakers (unless they're Rees - Moggs) say "father".Beyond these particular changes, the story highlights the way in which everything distinctively human is both material and spiritual: speech must combine sound and meaning, and the meaning can't exist or be transmitted without a real object. But neither can it be reduced to the purely physical, as our inability to understand or even to recognise foreign languages makes clear. The food we eat shapes our jaws, and our jaws in turn shape the sounds of our language. The ease with which we eat probably shapes our thought too, as anyone who has suffered toothache could testify. What we eat may have shaped the sounds of our language, but how we eat changes who we feel and what we use language to express. A family meal is very different from a sandwich at the office desk, even if the calorie is the same. Food has purposes and meanings far beyond keeping us alive and pleasing the Palate(味觉).()61. Compared with adults, babies could more easily ________ .A. create significant noisesB. classify the forms of noisesC. understand the Greek languageD. distinguish meaningful sounds()62. According to the passage, which of the following factors help shape language?A. Lips and teethB. Jobs and habitsC. Age and regionsD. Food and thinking()63. The reason for farmers' making sounds of "f" and "v" is ________ .A. enjoying more cooked foodsB. biting more with front teethC. constantly chewing harder foodsD. growing up with lager lower jaws.()64. By ;writing this passage, the author intends to reveal ________ .A. jaws help shape our thoughtB. food determines our thoughtC. diet has some influence on languageD. language consists of sound and meaningDBritish children used to play conkers(板栗游戏) in the autumn when the horse-chestnut trees started to drop their shiny brown nuts. They would select a suitable chestnut, drill a hole in it and thread it onto a string, then swing their conker at that of an opponent until one of the broke. But the game has fallen out of favour. Children spend les time outdoors and rarely have access to chestnut trees. Besides, many schools have banned conkers games, worried that they might cause injuries or nut allergies. That sort of risk-averseness(规避风险) now spreads through every aspect of childhood. Playgrounds have all the excitement designed out of them to make the safe. Many governments, particularly in societies such as America, have tightened up their rules, requiring parents to supervise(监管) young children far more chosely than in the past. Frank Furedi of the University of Kent, a critic on moder parenting, argues that allowing children to play unsupervised or leaving the at home alone is increasingly described as a symptom of irresponsible parenting. In part, such increased caution is a response to the huge wave of changes. Large-scale urbanization, smaller and more mobile families, the move of women into the labor market and the digitization of many aspects of life have unavoidably changed the way that people bring up their children. There is little chance that any of these trends will be changed, so today's ore intensive(精细化的) parenting style is likely to go on.Such parenting practices now embraced by wealthy parents in many parts of the rich world, particularly in America. go far beyond an adjustment to changes in external conditions. They mean a strong bid to ensure that the advantages enjoyed by the parents' generation are passed on to their children. Since success in life now turns mainly on education, such parents will do their best to provide their children with the schooling, the character training and the social skills that will secure access to the best universities and later the most attractive jobs.To some extent that has always been the case. But there are more such parents now, and they are competing with each other for what economists call positional goods. This competition starts even before the children are born. The wealthy classes will take their time to select a suitable spouse and get married, and will start a family only when they feel ready for it.Children form less advantaged backgrounds, by contrast, often appear before their parents are ready for them. In America 60% of births to single women under 30 are unplanned, and over 40% of children are born outside marriage. The result, certainly in America, has been to widen already massive social inequalities yet further. All the evidence suggests that children from poorer backgrounds are at a disadvantage almost as soon as they are born. By the age of five or six they are far less "school-ready" than their better-off peers, so any attempts to help them catch up have to start long before they get to school. America has had some success with various schemes involving regular home visits by nurses or social workers to low-income families with new babies. It also has long experience with programmes for young children from poor families that combine support for parents with good quality child care. Such programmes do seem to make a difference. Without extra effort children from low-income families in most countries are much less likely than their better-off peers to attend preschool education, even though they are more likely to benefit from it. And data from the OECD's PISA programme suggest that children need at least two years of preschool education to perform at their best when they are 15.So the most promising way to ensure greater equality may be to make early-yars education and care for more widely available and more affordable, as it is in the Nordics. Some governments are already rethinking their educational priorities, shifting some of their spending to the early years.most rich countries decided more than a century ago that free, compulsory education for all children was a worthwhile investment for society. There is now an argument for starting preschool education earlier, as some countries have already done. In the face of crushing new inequalities, a modern version of that approach is worth trying.65. Merkel, for example, spent more than a decade as a chemist before going into polities, while Hasina, the daughter of Bangladesh's first president, served as her father's political assistant while at college, and Johnson Sirleaf worked at multiple financial institutions before running for vice president. Is there something deeper than they share? The researcher Susan R. Madsen of Utah Valley University interviewed women in some countries about their paths to leadership. She was surprised by the similarities aong the women when they spoke about how they became leaders. "Every single one of them talked about finding their voices and their confidence at dinner-table conversations with their families. Their parents talked about politics, about what was happening in the community, and when the women had something to say, their parents didn't stop them," Madsen said.As part of a series of interviews on women and leadership, I spoke to three woen from different countries who have each become leaders in their respective fields: Agnes Igoye of Uganda, who works with her government to counter human trafficking; Ikram Ben Said, the founder of Tunisian women's rights organization Aswat Nissa; and Sairee Chahal of India, who started a digital platform that helps women get back into the workforce. All three of my interviewees pointed to the family environment they had been raised in - particularly a father figure who taught and empowered the women in the family to learn, ask questions, and form their own opinions. Also, mothers broke convention by displaying leadership within the family.Igoye, for example, credited her father with having the foresight to send his daughters to school despite opposition from others in their village. Her mother went back to school as an adult to improve her career as a teacher, which Igoye described as being a big influence on her. Similarly Ben Said talked about how her father encouraged political debate among the family when she was growing up, even when her opinions contradicted his. Meanwhile, Chahal said that even in her younger days, her parents went against the general convention of expecting their daughters to aim only for a good husband.Another conclusion from Madsen's work is that women's leadership development doesn't look like men's. "Men tend to follow a more straight path to becoming a leader. Women's paths are much emergent. They tend to not necessarily look ahead and think, 'I want to be on top,' Women would point to a number of experiences - motherhood, or working with a non-profit, or sitting on a board, as shaping their path to becoming leader," she said.Actually, women leaders tend to be held to higher standards than their male counterparts. Igoye has felt this in Uganda. "Women who take up leadership positions in my country have to be tough, it's not easy at all," she said. "You are always aware that you are representing all women. You have to deliver, to perform, because if you do something wrong, they will say, 'Ah, you see, women!'"Therefore, merely having women leaders can change the opportunities available for generations of women in a country. What leadership looks like in their country, how much of a voice the women leaders are having, influences what leadership is and what is means to its women.。

The earth and rubble excavated to make way for it would have been enough to bury Manhattan to a depth of four meters. Located 1,219 meters above the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon Skywalk consists of one million pounds of steel and 83, 000 pounds of glass. It was the creation of Las Vegas businessman David Jin, who approached the Hualapai Tribe with the idea of a glass walkway over the Grand Canyon in 1996. The Skywalk was assembled (ERLE)on site, with the drilling alone taking over a year to complete. Completion date: March 28, 2007.21. Which of the constructions took the longest time to build? A. To encourage people to explore the unknown.CLike “Titanic (1997)” and another record- breaking “Avatar (2009)”, the very firs t film to hit one billion yuan at China’s box office, both directed by James Cameron, American films are an unavoidable part and hold plenty of appeal for Chinese film-goers, including me. Moreover, in Hollywood, a break during the production period is a must for all crew members whereas most Chinese film crew do not even allow their production team time to rest on the weekend.Besides production, content is another importa nt aspect of Hollywood’s cultural exportation. The United States is known as a melting pot, as it is a country of immigrants. Its culture, in a way, is more diversified than others’. It also achieved great results in China, ranking as the 10th highest grossing (最高票房) film in the country in2017, with the box office being over one billion yuan.In contrast, China’s highest grossing film of 2017, “Wolf Warrior 2”, despite having created a new record in the country’s box office, did not get too much attention in the U. S. market. In fact, there is hardly any Chinese movie that has become a blockbuster in foreign markets. One of the reasons may be that most Chinese films only tell domestic stories with strong domestic elements, which is not wrong but makes it hard to attract foreign viewers due to the narrow themes. While seeking to tell Chinese stories that are able to gain global popularity is still2a question for Chinese filmmakers, fortunately, the technical aspect in the Chinese film industry has been improving thanks to the abundant cash flow in the market. S market.31.What is the author’s opinion towards the present situation of Chinese films? A.Contradictory. B.Objective.C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent.DDuring Amsterdam’s chaotic rush hour, nine -year-old Lotta Crok cycles to a very busy junction. “Look,” she says. “There’s traffic coming from everywhere. She is now planning a meeting with the city’s mayor to discuss ideas that children have come up with: “One of our proposals is a bicycle park where c hildren can learn how to cycle. “They see it works really well,” Boerma, the senior major, says. “I talk to the parents, Lotta talks to the children. And if you look at the city through the ey es of a child, you will also make it accessible for others. A city that’s good for an eight-year-old is also good for an 88-year-old.”32.Why is a junior cycle mayor appointed in Amsterdam?A.To teach children how to ride.B.To ensure cycling is safer for children.C.To give suggestions to the city’s mayor on how to run the city.D.To organize the cycling contests in the city.33.Which word can best replace the underlined word “superfluous” in paragraph 2?A.Important. B.Unnecessary.C.Difficult. D.Valuable.34.What has Lotta done since she became the bike mayor?A.She has solved the three biggest problems for children cycling in Amsterdam.3B.She has won a contest about cycling.C.She has given interviews and been a jury member during a parade.D.She has given proposals to the city mayor.35.What’s Boerma’s attitude to the junior cycle mayor?A.Cautious. B.Favorable.C.Ambiguous. D.Disapproving.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
