•Although it is a short story about a dog, Buck, it vividly depicts the life in the primitive North where people rushed for gold and fortune. •Buck, used to belong to a judge, was kidnapped and sold to North. Then he became a member of a dogteam pulling a sled (雪橇). In the days of pulling a snow-sled, he learned to conform to the law of nature and obey the master. Finally, he found a basic instinct hidden inside him, which enabled himself to survive the tough environment. This is the call of the wild.

Buck, the main character, is a Saint Bernard and Scotch Shepherd cross, which gives him the appearance of an exceptionally large dog that looks similar to a wolf. Buck leads a comfortable life as the pet of Judge Miller in the „sun-kissed‟ Santa Clara Valley of Northern California. Judge Miller„s gardener‟s assistant, Manuel, along with a friend, abducts the dog and sells him to a trainer of sled dogs, which were in great demand due to the discovery of “a yellow metal” in the frozen lands of the Yukon, Alaska. Slowly introduced to the brutality of his new life, Buck is forced to survive and adapt to conditions in Alaska and the Yukon. He works pulling sleds with other dogs, learns to steal food, and engages in power struggle with other dogs for the lead position in the sled team. He becomes the leader of the sled team after defeating his enemy Spitz

Passive VoiceUse of PassivePassive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known, however, who or what is performing the action.Example: My bike was stolen.In the example above, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:Example: A mistake was made.In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was made, but I do not blame anyone(e.g. You have made a mistake.).Form of PassiveExample: A letter was written.When rewriting active sentences in passive voice, note the following:▪the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence▪the finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle)▪the subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped)Examples of PassiveExamples of PassivePassive Sentences with Two ObjectsRewriting an active sentence with two objects in passive voice means that one of the two objects becomes the subject, the other one remains an object. Which object to transform into a subject depends on what you want to put the focus on.As you can see in the examples, adding by Rita does not sound very elegant. That’s why it is usually dropped.Personal and Impersonal PassivePersonal Passive simply means that the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. So every verb that needs an object (transitive verb) can form a personal passive.Example: They build houses. – Houses are built.Verbs without an object (intransitive verb) normally cannot form a personal passive sentence (as there is no object that can become the subject of the passive sentence). If you want to use an intransitive verb in passive voice, you need an impersonal construction – therefore this passive is called Impersonal Passive.Example: he says – it is saidImpersonal Passive is not as common in English as in some other languages (e.g. German, Latin). Warning! Never suspend ETX Powered Loudspeakers in a vertical column array. Disregarding this warning could result in serious injury or death.
Notice! If the eyebolts are removed reinstall the screws. If the screws are not reinstalled air leaks occur in the enclosure, resulting in undesirable performance.
Prior to use, inspect the suspension points and associated hardware for any cracks, deformations, broken welds, corrosion, missing or damaged components which could reduce the suspension points strength. Replace any damaged hardware. Never exceed the limitations or maximum recommended load intended for the suspension points. As an added safety measure, it is suggested the user install an extra suspension point back to the building structural supports. This redundant safety point should have as little slack as possible (less than one (1) inch is preferable). Prior to each use, inspect the loudspeaker enclosures for any cracks, deformations, missing or damaged components, which could reduce enclosure strength. Replace any loudspeaker systems damaged or missing hardware.

1、根据是否能够接宾语,可以分成及物动词(Transitive Verb)、不及物动词(Intransitive Verb),缩写形式分别为vt. 和vi.。说明:同一动词有时可用作及物动词,有时可用作不及 物动词。例如: She can dance and sing. 她能唱歌又能跳舞。 (sing在此用作不及物动词。) She can sing many English songs. 她能唱好多首英文歌曲。(sing用作及物动词。) 2、 根据是否受主语的人称和数的限制,分成限定动词( Finite Verb)和非限定动词(Non-finite Verb)例如: She sings very well. 她唱得很好。 (sing受主语she的限制,故用第三人称单数形式sings) She wants to learn English well.她想学好英语。 (to learn不受主语she的限制,没有词形变化,是非限定动 词)
