2021-2022学年江西省九江第一中学高一年级下学期期末考试英语试题
2021-2022学年江西省九江第一中学高一年级下学期期末考试英语试题1. Now that the Government’s official “stay at home” advice has been lifted, many office workers are flooding back into city centres, alongside students who are returning to in-person classes across Britain. As a result, we’re seeing demand for rental homes in key city locations rise by as much as 70% compared to this time last year when working from home and online lectures were the new norm. Take a look at the hottest rental locations outside London.1. Clifton, BristolThe hottest rental market in Britain is Clifton, where rental demand is up by 71%. The area is packed with gorgeous Georgian houses or period flats which have the double benefit of being within walking distance of the city centre, and also close to Bristol University and a good choice of local pubs, cafes, restaurants, and shops.2. Didsbury, ManchesterThe neighbourhood of Didsbury, just over five miles (or a seven-minute train ride) south of Manchester’s city centre, has long been a hotspot. Didsbury still has a real urban village feel, several lovely parks and an annual summer festival, although its independent shops are slowly but surely being driven out by chains. Property wise there is a good mix of modern purpose built flats, and period houses and flats. Interest from renters is up 62 per cent in Didsbury.3. Edinburgh per cent. This rental hotspot on today’s league table is north of the border. The beautiful university city o f Edinburgh has seen demand rise by 58 percent. With its historic UNESCO World Heritage centre, villagey suburbs like Stockbridge, and even the seaside at Portobello this is truly a “something for everyone” option.1. What is one of the reasons for the increasing need of rental homes?A.The government’s “stay at home” advice.B.Students’ taking online lectures.C.Workers’ returning to office.D.London’s overcrowding.2. What may contribute to Didsbury being a hotspot for rental?A.Walking distance to the city center. B.Convenient chain stores.C.Good location near the sea. D.unique rural feel.3. Which city has increased most in rental demand?A.Clifton B.Didsbury C.London D.Edinburgh2. Music can make you laugh, make you cry, give you chills, shake your body, or — as anyone who has ever attended an evening performance at the concert knows too well — put you to sleep. NewMusic has been used in healing ceremonies for thousands of years and across cultures —but let’s talk about a surprising new study out of Hong Kong. Researchers found that study participants who listened to music for 30 to 45 minutes before bed every night for three months fell asleep more quickly, slept more deeply, and felt better the next morning. The catch: The songs they listened to were all set at tempos between 60 and 80 beats per minute — our general heart rate when falling asleep.Of course, the same is true of energetic music: The Royal Automobile Club Foundation for Motoring ranked Wagner’s “Ride of The Valkyries” as the world’s most dangerous song for motorists, thanks to a wild tempo that challenges drivers’ normal sense o f speed.Armed with findings about the link between backbeat and heartbeat, sleep therapists have even begun working with musicians to create what could become known to history as the chillest music ever. In 2011, the English trio known as Marconi Union worked with the British Academy of Sound Therapy to create an eight-minute instrumental track called “Weightless,” and it worked. Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson of Mindlab International even added: “I would advise against driving while listening to the song becaus e it could be dangerous.”Want to help your relaxation before bedtime? Make this your official playlist for a sweet sleep: • “Weightless” by Marconi Union• “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy• “Canzonetta Sul’aria” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart• “Nocturne in E Flat Major Op. 9 No. 2” by Frederic Chopin• “The Boxer” by Simon & GarfunkelSleep tight!1. What does the underlined word this refer to in the 1st paragraph?A.Music makes you emotional. B.Music makes you move along.C.Music makes you sleepy. D.Music makes you excited.2. Which way can make you sleep more quickly?A.Listening to The Boxer on bed. B.Listening to Wagner’s in the car.C.Playing songs of Marconi Union. D.Doing puzzles for half an hour.3. What do we know about “Weightless”?A.It is against by Dr. David Lewis-Hodgson. B.Its beat may pace with the heart rate.C.It is a treatment for the loss of sleep D.Its effect needs to be tested.4. Which may have the fastest beats?A.Clair de Lune. B.Weightless.3. I started out with my first Newfoundland pony when I was 13, and I have been hooked on them ever since. It was common to see my pony tied to a pole in the parking lot of our local supermarket, Bidgood’s, where I’d do some of the family shopping as part of my regular chores. I would ride on the side of the road and some people in their cars would time our speed. As an adult, I still have the privilege of caring for Newfoundland ponies. I have a small farm located in Cappahayden, which is an outport on the Irish Loop and situated in one of the oldest settled areas of Newfoundland. The Irish Loop is a well-known tourist route. Here, I welcome visitors who wish to know more about Newfoundland’s heritage ponies. My farm is one where you can p et the resident ponies and ask as many questions as you like about them and their history. People are always fascinated to learn that my current trio of ponies is a little family consisting of a mother and her two daughters of different fathers. I explain a little about the history of the breed and also relate the current difficulties it faces. The population of Newfoundland ponies is like that of the Newfoundland people themselves. It is an older population, and the number of ponies passing on is growing at a faster rate than the new births. If circumstances cannot be changed for the better, it simply will not be possible to sustain the breed, and that, of course, is a serious concern.Another serious problem is keeping track of the ponies’ actual whereabouts. Unfortunately, not all owners or breeders keep their paperwork up-to-date with the Newfoundland Pony Society. I try to keep a record of the ponies’ new sites they are moved around from home to home, so they are not lost to the Newfoundland pony community.Being hard-working, honest, sociable, trusting, kind, caring and talented are just a few of the breed’s features. Once you meet them, you cannot help but fall in love with them, just as I did!1. How did the writer do shopping when she was in her teens?A.By bike. B.In people’s cars.C.On her pony. D.On foot.2. How many Newfoundland Ponies does the writer have?A.2. B.3. C.4. D.5.3. What does the underlined word whereabouts in the 4th paragraph mean?A.locations. B.characters. C.number. D.history.4. Which statement about the Newfoundland ponies is right?B.They are in danger of dying out.A.The writer has kept them since hisadulthood.C.They are often rejected by their owners. D.They often live individually.4. I’ve never been one for Disney movies and other animated movies aimed at kids that are often in theaters now. So deciding to watch Spirited Away, I was feeling pretty unenthusiastic but itsSpirited Away is about a 10 year old girl named Chihiro. While on the way to her new home her parents decide to take a detour and go down an old road. After passing through a tunnel they end up in what seems to be an abandoned town. In the town, her parents find an open food stall and eat the food, saying they can pay the shop owner once they get there. But they turn into pigs! Guided by Haku, who she meets while looking around, she sets off to try and save her parents and return to her own world.Although it is a children’s fi lm, I found the story to be surprisingly mature and enjoyable. Near the beginning of the story, Chihiro was a bit of a spoiled kid, but she progresses a lot as a character as she meets and interacts with the residents of the spirit world. The movie does a lot to create a sense of mystery and often uses soft worldbuilding. The animation is wonderful. It all flows very well and allows for breathtaking scenes that really bring the world to life alongside your imagination. The film has its fair share of twists and turns and was very enjoyable, while I feel that we could benefit greatly from multiple rewatches, which I’d gladly do, in order to get the full experience. This is a movie I would definitely recommend to all ages. A small note, it does show blood in a few scenes, so if you’re a parent whether or not that’s okay for your child would be up to you. All in all, I feel that despite not being a part of the intended audience, this is an excellent movie that deserves a watch no matter what type of person you are.1. What made the writer first watch the movie?A.His always loving the style. B.The amazing plots.C.Its breathtaking scenes. D.People’s comments on it.2. What do we know about Chihiro?A.She travels to an old town for fun with her parents.B.She changes into a responsible girl.C.She stays in the spirit city forever.D.She changes her parents into pigs.3. How does the writer find the movie?A.Childish and imaginary. B.Wonderful but incomplete.C.Entertaining and developed. D.Bloody but amazing.4. What is the style of the passage?A.Review. B.Journal. C.Biography. D.Advertisement.5. How To Make A Poster—A Complete Guide To Picture Perfect Poster Design Nowadays, posters are still being used in advertising to grab people’s attention. But that’s easier saidTo make it easier for you to define the purpose of your poster, answer these two questions: Who’s the audience you want to attract? What’s the message you want to send? Knowing your audience is vital because it’s going to help you create a message that will have the desired impact. 2 .2. Create a draft3 . When it comes to the information you add in the poster, pay attention not to overwhelm the audience with too many details. Go back to the message you want to communicate and figure out the essential information that should be included.3. 4The color combination you choose for your poster is going to be the first thing people notice, especially from far away. So you want to make sure you attract attention, but in a good way. If you’re a beginner, then feel free to use the 60-30-10 color proportions, a basic rule in color theory. If you want to experiment more, then go ahead and add two more colors.4. Add images, graphic elements, or illustrationsNow it’s time to add the main image you want to use, as long as other graphic des ign elements that would work well on your poster design. You want to choose an image that’s relevant to your audience and the message you want to send. Ideally, you should use an original one, and not a stock image. At the same time, you want to pay attention to the key point in the photo. 5 .5. Add the textAt this stage, you can go ahead and add the text, considering your audience the main message you want to send. By following these tips, you will be on your to create a stunning poster design.6. Did you know that some people don’t do their reading homework? It’s _________, but it’s true. Therefore, we would call on you to take meals instead of snacks.Let’s have a healthy diet from now on , Let’s eat more fruit and vegetables every day to prevent diseases so that we can keep healthy.Student Council听力材料Text 1M: I need to use the restroom, but the door is locked. No one is in there because I already knocked on the door. Can you give me the key?W: Well, the restroom is for customers only. You’ll need to buy something before I can give it to you.Text 2M: When does the play start? My ticket says 7:30 p.m.W: Well, that’s when it officially starts. They actually check tickets fifteen minutes earlier. And if you’re not seated when the lights go down five minutes before that, they won’t let you in.Text 3W: I play basketball three times a week. What’s your favorite sport, Patric k?M: I played baseball as a young kid, but I haven’t picked up a bat in years. I’m much more into tennis these days.Text 4M: I wish Uncle Jim wouldn’t talk with his mouth full of food.W: Well, I love his jokes and that makes up for his lack of manners.Text 5W: How much did you pay for this new fridge?M: Oh, it was a little over a thousand dollars, plus tax. It was much more expensive than our washing machine, but not nearly as much as our bed!Text 6W: I can’t believe Thanksgiving is right around the co rner! Who usually does the cooking in your family?M: My mother and my two aunts don’t let anyone else do anything except for the salad and the drinks. That includes all the sauces, desserts, and place settings.W: Wow. It sounds like they take Turkey Day pretty seriously.M: Listen, if Thanksgiving were an Olympic sport, they would be kicked out for winning too many gold medals! What about you?W: Well, my parents and I do everything together. It’s better than one person trying to do too much.Text 7W: Oh, there is nothing better than a nice cold glass of ice water on a hot day.M: You know, cold water always gives me stomachaches.W: Really? I’ve never had that problem. I’ve been drinking ice water since I was little. M: Hmm. When I was a small boy, my grandmother never let my mom give me anything other than warm water.W: Even in the summer?M: Yes. Every once in a while, my dad would take me to get some ice cream, but m y grandmother was never happy about that. I think it was the sugar that she didn’t like…Text 8M: Is it me, or is it really hard to understand this speaker?W: You’re right. It’s not that he has an accent like some of the other speake rs from another country. It’s just that he is speaking too softly. Do you think it would be rude to ask him to turn his microphone up a little bit?M: I don’t think he’s wearing one. Either that or he’s turned it off.W: That’s crazy. There must be four hundred people here.M: This part of the conference has turned into such a waste of time. Maybe we should leave and try to find another lecture.W: I can’t do that. I come here specifically to hear this guy’s speech. I think I’ll just go up to him at the end of the speech and try to ask him some questions. M: Good idea. Would you mind if I followed you up there? It might be the only way to get anything out of this hour.W: No problem.Text 9W: Excuse me. Can you tell me where I can find dresses for teenagers?M: Yes, they’re on the left, next to the purses. But don’t you think you should look for something, uh…a bit more mature?W: Oh, no…it’s not for me. I’m looking for a present for my niece. She’s turning 16 next week, and she’s having a big party.M: Oh, I remember when my daughter was that age. She’s about to graduate college now. W: How wonderful! Yeah, Elizabeth is looking at schools right now. We’ll probably take her on a tour of the East Coast colleges sometime in the fall. She lives with my brother and his wife in Oregon.M: There are some schools there that offer good programs, but they probably don’t get the scenery li ke we do here on the East Coast. I’ve always liked seeing the seasons change.I went to the University of Pennsylvania. What about you?W: I went to Brown University.M: Great! So where does your niece want to go to school?W: Oh, I think Harvard, Yale, and the University of Chicago are her top three choices. M: Well, those are all fantastic schools with a long history, but I think it’s a good idea to take her to see all those places up close and in person. You can’t get a sense ofa college until you set foot on campus.W: I couldn’t agree more! Well, I’d better get back to my shopping!Text 10Hello, I’m Rachel Joyce. I’m so happy to be here today at the Claremont Library. I’ve traveled all the way from England, and it’s truly wonderful to visit the United States! This is the first stop on my book tour. I’m off to Australia next! Before I take any questions, let me tell you a bit about myself. My new novel, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy, was recently published in 2014. The book is a companion to my first novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which follows a man named Harold Fry as he goes in search of his old friend, Queenie Hennessy, in hopes of saying goodbye before she dies. The novel was published in 2012. It was almost chosen for the Commonwealth Book Prize and the Man Booker Prize. The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy is Queenie’s side of the story as she waits for Harold. I’ve also written m any radio plays for BBC Radio Four, and in 2007, I won the Tinniswood Award for my radio play To Be a Pilgrim. I have also won the UK National Book Award for New Writer of the Year. Before I was a writer, I was an actress in theatre and on TV. I’ll take questions from the audience now.。

AAs the first woman Chancellor (总理) in German’s history, Angela Merkel topped Forbes magazine’s list of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. She has even been compared to Margaret Thatcher and many people called her “Iron Lady”.Merkel was born in Hamburg, West Germany, on July 17, 1954. Six weeks after she was born, her family moved to Templin. As a small child, Merkel quickly learned to speak but took longer to walk. “I was a stupid person when it came to moving?” Merkel said. “A normal person could do something naturally, but I had to think about it in my mind and practice.” As a te enager, she was the top student and graduated from high school with perfect marks. In 1973, Merkel went to the University of Leipzig, where she studied physics. At 32, she got her doctor’s degree in physics. She stepped into politics in 1989. In her first big political job as Minister for the Environment in 1994, her scientific background and strong will proved very useful. In 2005 she became Germany’s Chancellor. She has been reelected to a second term as German Chancellor on September 27, 2009.Through he r political career, Merkel’s persistence (坚持) and patience helped her a lot. “She’s bright and openminded,” said Hubert Markl. “She is the person who wants to know exactly what is going on, and how never giving up will influence our society and future.”21. How could that be? British Prime Minister David Cameron and his ministers were attending a reception hosted by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. They insisted on wearing poppies (罂粟花) in their buttonholes. What's wrong with that?According to the Global Times, Chinese officials clearly had asked the UK delegation(代表团)not to wear poppies. The British said that poppies meant a great deal to them on that day and they would wear them all the same.So what's the importance of the poppy? It's a flower which has different cultural and symbolic meanings for British and Chinese people. From the Chinese point of view, the poppy is a symbol of China's humiliation at the hands of European powers in the Opium Wars of the 19th century. Britain forced China to open the borders to trade — including in the opium — which was made frompoppies grown in India.Yet from the British viewpoint the poppy is a reminder of the killing during World War I. Red poppies grew on the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium where many thousands of British soldiers died or were buried. Since then, Poppy Day (November 11) has become a time in the UK to wear poppies and remember the sacrifices of British soldiers and civilians in times of war.So you can see that the poppy sets off strong feelings in the hearts of Chinese and British people for different reasons. And it makes sense for us to try to understand each other's standpoint (立场). Of course cultural differences can also be interesting and funny. And what one nation thinks is an acceptable gift may be viewed differently by their guest from overseas. US President Barack Obama gave a gift of an iPod to Britain's Queen —a dull person with no interest in music. Obama also presented Gordon Brown with a fine selection of American movies. But they were in US format(模式)and impossible to play on British DVD players. Many countries have diploma (外交官) stationed overseas. Diplomats provide information and advice to their governments back home. However, sometimes it would seem that even diplomats can overlook(忽视)the cultural importance of a small flower.25. Why did the British insist on wearing poppies in their buttonholes?A. The poppy is a symbol of China's humiliation.B. Poppies were grown in India.C. Red poppies grew on the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium.D. In memory of those people sacrificing in times of war.26. British Prime Minister David Cameron probably attended a reception in Beijing in ________.A.October B.January C.December D. November27. The diplomatic (外交的) problems mentioned in last but one paragraph are mainly caused by _____.A. the different lifestyleB. the cultural differenceC. the translation mistakeD. the language difference28. We can infer that ________.A.Britain's Queen may not like the iPod US President Barack Obama gave her.B.Gordon Brown was fond of American movies US President Barack Obama sent him C.US President Barack Obama received a gift for musicD. Britain's Queen is not interested in any gifts given by Americans.CSPECIAL EVENTSTHIS WEEKENDCaptain GoodfellowDo your children enjoy interesting stories, funny games, and exciting dances? Now however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter can really improve people’s health.Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their hearts, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, makes the heart beat quicker and makes people breathe deeper; it also works on several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effects of pain on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group that tolerated(忍耐)the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemical in the brain which diminishes both stress and pain.As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they help to improve their patients’ condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter.32. What do we learn from the tests mentioned in paragraph 2?A. Laughter has totally different effects when compared with physical exercise.B. Laughter can help to decrease blood pressure.C. Tests’ purposes were to study the influence of laughter on the body.D. Laughter makes no difference to our feet.33.
