If students want to develop a new hobby, they can get in touch with ________.A. Laura KohlerB. Jennifer NewmanC. Laura SmithD. Nikki PivnichnyBTwo of the saddest words in the English language are “if only”. I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying, “Take the extra minute to do it right.” I always try to live by the “extra minute” rule. When my children were y oung and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an “if only” moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫) onto the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.I don’t only avoid those “if only” moments when it comes to safety. It’s equally important to avoid “if only” in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say “I love you” or “I forgive you.” When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn’t be here. But then I thought about the fact that he’s 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn’t give up an opportunity to see him. I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.I know there will still be occasions when I have to sa y “if only” about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy sc hedule to make a personal connection, I know that I’m doing the right thing. I’m buying myself peace of mind and that’s the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being.4.Which of the following is an example of the “extra minute” rule?A.Start the car the moment everyone is seated.B.Move an object out of the way before it trips someone.C.Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better.D.Leave the room for a minute with the iron working.5.The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to ______.A.meet her father who was already an old manB.keep her appointment with the eye doctorC.finish her work before the deadline approachedD.join in the holiday celebration of the company6.The underlined word “foregone” in Paragr aph 3 is closest in meaning to ______. A.avoided B.taken C.abandoned D.lacked7.What is the best title for the passage?A.To Keep Emotional Well-being B.To Achieve the Peace of MindC.To Follow the Most Useful Rule D.To Pr event “If Only” MomentsCCalifornia has lost half its big trees since the 1930s, according to a study to be published Tuesday and climate change seems to be a major factor(因素).The number of trees larger than two feet across has declined by 50 percent on more than 46,000 square miles of California forests, the new study finds. No area was spared or unaffected, from the foggy northern coast to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the San Gabriels above Los Angeles. In the Sierra high country, the number of big trees has fallen by more than 55 percent; in parts of southern California the decline was nearly 75 percent. Many factors contributed to the decline, said Patrick McIntyre, an ecologist who was the lead author of the study. Woodcutters targeted big trees. Housing development pushed into the woods. Aggressive wildfire control has left California forests crowded with small trees that compete with big trees for resources(资源).But in comparing a study of California forests done in the 1920s and 1930s with another one between 2001 and 2010, McIntyre and his colleagues documented a widespread death of big trees that was evident even in wildlands protected from woodcutting or development. The loss of big trees was greatest in areas where trees had suffered the greatest water shortage. The researchers figured out water stress with a computer model that calculated how much water trees were getting in comparison with how much they needed, taking into account such things as rainfall, air temperature, dampness of soil, and the timing of snowmelt(融雪).Since the 1930s, McIntyre said, the biggest factors driving up water stress in the state have been rising temperatures, which cause trees to lose more water to the air, and earlier snowmelt, which reduces the water supply available to trees during the dry season.8.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A. The influence of farming on big trees in California.B. The increasing variety of California big trees.C. The distribution of big trees in California forests.D. The seriousness of big-tree loss in California.9.Which of the following is well-intentioned but may be bad for big trees?A. Fire control measures.B. Banning woodcutting.C. Ecological studies of forests.D. Limiting housing development.10.What is a major cause of the water shortage according to McIntyre?A. Inadequate snowmelt.B. A longer dry season.C. A warmer climate.D. Dampness of the air.11.What can be a suitable title for the passage?A. Patrick McIntyre: Grow More Big Trees in CaliforniaB. Why Are the Big Trees Important to California Forests?C. Cutting of Big Trees to Be Prohibited in California SoonD. California’s Forests: Where Have All the Big Trees Gone?DWould you BET on the future of this man? He is 53 years old. Most of his adult life has been a losing struggle against debt and misfortune. A war injury has made his left hand stop functioning, and he has often been in prison. Driven by heaven-knows-what motives, he determines to write a book. The book turns out to be one that has appealed to the world for more than 350 years. That former prisoner was Cervantes, and the book was Don Quixote(《堂吉诃德》). And the story poses an interesting question: why do some people discover new vitality and creativity to the end of their days, while others go to seed long before? We’ve all known people who run out of steam before they reach life’s halfway mark. I’m not talking about those who fail to get to the top. We can’t all get there. I’m talking about people who have stopped learning on growing because they have adopted the fixed attitudes and opinions that all too often come with passing years. Most of us, in fact, progressively narrow the variety of our lives. We succeed in our field of specialization and then become trapped in it. Nothing surprises us. We lose our sense of wonder. But, if we are willing to learn, the opportunities are everywhere. The things we learn in maturity seldom involve information and skills. We learn to bear with the things we can’t change. We learn to avoid self-pity. We learn that however much we try to please, some people are never going to love us—an idea that troubles at first but is eventually relaxing. With high motivation and enthusiasm, we can keep on learning. Then we will know how important it is to have meaning in our life. However, we can achieve meaning only if we have made a commitment to something larger than our own little egos (自我), whether to loved ones, to fellow humans, to work, or to some moral concept. Many of us equate(视……等同于)“commitment” with such “caring” occupations as teaching and nursing. But doing any ordinary job as well as one can is in itself an admirable commitment. People who work toward such excellence—whether they are driving a truck, or running a store—make the world better just by being the kind of people they are. They’ve learned life’s most valuable lesson.12.The passage starts with the story of Cervantes to show that.A. loss of freedom stimulates one’s creativityB. misery inspires a man to fight against his fateC. age is not a barrier to achieving one’s goalD. disability cannot stop a man’s pursuit of success13. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A. End one’s struggle for liberty.B. Lose the interest to continue learning.C. Waste one’s energy taking risks.D. Miss the opportunity to succeed.14. What could be inferred from Paragraph 4?A. Opportunity favors those with a curious mind.B. Opportunity awaits those with a cautious mind.C. Those who tend to think back can hardly go ahead.D. Those who dare to try often get themselves trapped.15. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 5?A. A tough man can tolerate suffering.B. A wise man can live without self-pity.C. A man should try to satisfy people around him.D. A man should learn suitable ways to deal with life.
作者的观点一般用in my view,in my opinion personally,I think,I hold等表现。
4)对于选项而言,要分清选项中的褒义词、中性词和贬义词,以此对照全文。

英语四级考试技巧重点总结Mastering the techniques for the CET-4 (College English Test Band 4) is crucial for achieving success in this high-stakes examination. This comprehensive test evaluates a student's English language proficiency across multiple domains, including listening, reading, writing, and translation. By understanding and implementing effective strategies, candidates can optimize their performance and increase their chances of attaining the desired score. One of the primary focus areas should be developing robust listening skills. The listening section of the CET-4 tests the ability to comprehend spoken English in various contexts, such as conversations, lectures, and broadcasts. Effective techniques include practicing with authentic materials, taking notes while listening, and familiarizing oneself with common accents and speech patterns. Additionally, developing an understanding of contextual clues and identifying key information can significantly improve listening comprehension. The reading section assesses the comprehension of various written materials, including passages, articles, and essays. Successful strategies involve skimming for the main idea, scanning for specificdetails, recognizing rhetorical devices, and understanding vocabulary in context. Building a strong vocabulary base and practicing critical reading skills are essential for excelling in this section.Writing proficiency is evaluated through tasks such as essay writing, summary writing, and email composition. Candidates should focus on developing a clear and organized writing style, utilizing appropriate grammar and sentence structures, and effectively expressing ideas and opinions. Practicing timed writing exercises and receiving feedback can help refine writing skills and time management strategies. The translation section tests the ability to accurately convey meaning from English to Chinese or vice versa. Mastering idiomatic expressions, understanding cultural nuances, and developing a strong grasp of grammar and vocabulary in both languages are crucial for successful translation. Regular practice with a variety of text types can help improve translation skills. In addition to subject-specific strategies, effective time management is a fundamental aspect of succeeding in the CET-4. Candidates should learn to allocate time wisely, prioritize questions based on their strengths and weaknesses, and develop techniques for pacing themselves throughout the examination.Furthermore, maintaining a positive mindset and employing stress-management techniques can enhance overall performance. Building confidence through consistent practice, visualizing success, and implementing relaxation strategies can help candidates stay focused and composed during the test.Ultimately, achieving success in the CET-4 requires a combination of subject knowledge, strategic preparation, and effective test-taking skills. By dedicating time and effort to mastering the techniques outlined above, candidates can improve their chances of attaining the desired results and unlocking new academic and professional opportunities.。
这类词很多,常见的有as, such, for example, for instance, a case, in point 等。

Mastering English composition requires a combination of skills, techniques, and dedication. Whether you're a native English speaker or learning English as a second language, there are several effective strategies you can employ to improve your English writing skills significantly. In this article, we will explore some key approaches to enhance your English composition abilities without revealing your original prompt.1. Reading Widely: One of the most effective ways to improve your English composition skills is by reading extensively in English. This includes novels, newspapers, magazines, and online articles. Reading exposes you to a wide range of vocabulary, sentence structures, and writing styles, which you can incorporate into your own compositions. Make a habit of reading for at least 30minutes every day, focusing on different genres and topics to broaden your knowledge base.2. Analyzing Texts: As you read, pay close attention to the structure and language used in the texts. Analyze how authors introduce their ideas, develop arguments, and conclude their writing. Take note of any phrases or expressions that stand out to you and consider how you can incorporate similar techniques into your own compositions. Additionally, examine the grammar and punctuation used in the texts to enhance your understanding of English language conventions.3. Building Vocabulary: A rich vocabulary is essential for effective English composition. Make it a habit to learn new words regularly and actively seek opportunities to use them in your writing. Keep a vocabulary journal where you can jot down new words along with their meanings and examples of how they are used in context. Experiment with synonyms and antonyms to avoid repetition and add variety to your language.4. Practicing Writing: Like any skill, writing improves with practice. Set aside time each day to write in English, focusing on different types of compositions such as essays, stories, and opinion pieces. Start with shorter pieces and gradually work your way up to longer, more complex ones. Don't be afraid to make mistakes; instead, view them as learning opportunities. You can also seek feedback from teachers, peers, or online communities to identify areasfor improvement.5. Structuring Your Writing: A well-structured composition is easier to read and understand. Before you start writing, take some time to plan out your ideas and organize them into a coherent structure. Begin with an introduction that clearly states your main point or argument, followed by body paragraphs that provide supporting evidence or examples. Finally, end with a conclusion that summarizes your key points and reinforces your thesis statement.6. Editing and Revising: Once you've written a draft of your composition, take the time to revise and edit itcarefully. Look for any grammatical errors, awkward phrasing, or inconsistencies in your writing. Pay attention to sentence structure and ensure that your ideas flow logically from one paragraph to the next. Consider reading your composition aloud or asking someone else to review it for you, as this can help you identify areas that need improvement.7. Seeking Help When Needed: Don't hesitate to seek help if you're struggling with a particular aspect of English composition. This could involve enrolling in a writing course, working with a tutor, or joining a writing group or workshop. Additionally, there are numerous online resources and writing guides available that can provide valuable tips and advice. In conclusion, mastering English composition is a gradual process that requires dedication and practice. By reading widely, analyzing texts, building vocabulary, practicing writing, structuring your compositions, editing and revising diligently, and seeking help when needed, you can significantly improve your English writing skills overtime. Bragging doesn‟t come naturally it can feel like you‟re asking to be congratulated. Especially these days, when so much of everyone‟s Facebook feed is filled with
#humblebrags—of the “Our Nantucket house has the most terrible reception!” sort—if you‟re more on the modest side, you may cringe at the idea joining in the chorus
of me-me-me-me. But if you sing your own praises with the right attitude, you‟ll build up your self-esteem, share wha t you‟ve learned with the world—and achieve even more successes to crow about, both at work and in life.
So go ahead and take a little credit, won‟t you? Whether you hired that whip-smart intern everyone loves or organized an unprecedentedly successful PT A bake sale, it‟s important to own up to your successes as much as you own up your mistakes.
There are plenty of great reasons to brag:
You open new doors. What happens when those in the position to consider you for a new job, a spot in an advanced yoga class, or a chance to lead the spring gala at your kids‟ school have no idea what you‟re capable of? You lose out on an opportunity, that‟s what.
You can make more money. Being boastful gets you ahead at work. Women are less likely to speak up at work than men—and in turn, more often miss out on the great project, the promotion, and the salary bump, found a 2012 report from management consulting firm Accenture. Owning up to your accomplishments isn‟t about arrogance; it‟s about getting the recognitions and rewards that you‟ve earned.
You feel great! Giving yourself props is a proven mood-booster—it triggers the same sensation of pleasure in the brain as eating good food or being paid, found a recent Harvard study.
You model confidence to others. Openly taking pride in your achievements makes it easier for those around you—including your children, your friends, and your coworkers—to do the same.
You set the bar higher for next time. Singing your own praises also encourages you to aim higher in future en deavors: If you thought that was cool, wait …til you see what I can do next! It‟s as much about boosting your own confidence as boosting others‟ confidence in you. When you shy away from sharing what you‟ve done, though, you keep your—and others‟—expectations low.
You let people know the real you:
Admittedly, tooting your own horn is often easier said than done, especially for women, who are more likely than men to give away the credit at work—talking about the great team they had, the collaborative efforts involved, the talents of someone, anyone, else. And in most of those cases, women give the unnecessary credit not to other women, but to men, found a recent University of Massachusetts study.
So what‟s a good way to brag? Talking about yourself with pride, just like you would a sibling, partner, or friend.
Keep it short and sweet—but not too short. “No matter how you spread the news, keep it pithy, make it entertaining, and make sure it matters to the person you‟re telling,” Peggy Klaus suggests.
Give other people props. Effective bragging doesn‟t mean everything should be “I, I, I,” says Klaus. When it applies, include others in the credit—but don‟t give them all the credit. For example, if you coached your daughter‟s little league team to the
st ate championships, you might say, “It was a great success, and I never could have done it without my assistant coach, Jane.”
Brag to your boss. Every time you hit a goal, fulfill a quota, or reach a personal best, write it down. Bring the list to your next review and be prepared to tell your supervisor about why each success made a difference to a project or to the company. Being able to quantify your worth makes the conversation more about fact—you deserve recognition, and here‟s why—than about opinion.
Have someone else brag for you. Consider teaming up with a friend or partner who can talk up your skills and call out your achievements for you. You can then do the same in return. It‟s a pretty clever suggestion—if I do say so myself. And, of course, I do.
