专题强化练(十)词句猜测题——词义猜测类A(2022·广东七校联合体高三第二次联考试卷)I started out with animals as a volunteer in a safari park. For me,it's about both providing care and supporting their conservation in the wild, which is what led me to Laos in Southeast Asia, setting up a sanctuary for sun and moon bears. They are facing a tough time—they are caught in the wild, and then sold to bear bile(胆汁)farms where they are treated inhumanely. It was full steam ahead right from the start. Before I even boarded the plane to Laos,Matt,a friend from the charity Free The Bears, had called me saying they had rescued a tiny female sun bear. They named it Mary. She was found in a tiny cage on the back of a truck that was filled with rubbish. When I met Mary for the first time, she was scared and weak, but after a few days in a caring environment with the right nutrition she quickly found her feet.It wasn't all easy work.I remember taking her for a walk one day and she shot off up a tree far beyond our reach just as we were heading back to our nursery centre. She loves honey, but she was so intelligent(and stubborn)that she wouldn't just e for it.I ended up having to trick her with a game, and finally managed to get her low enough to grab her.I have countless memories like that which will always make me laugh. But it's still mentally exhausting to know that more than 10,000 bears are kept in cages across Asia.So I can't describe the feeling of great joy when we get them into our centre.Seeing them take their first steps on the grass after knowing nothing but bars and concrete is what it's all about. They deserve to have the life they were intended for.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文。

A tourist from Taiwan walked off a port near Melbourne last month while checking Facebook—bringing an abrupt, and icy end to a penguin- watching visit. Another shopper in the U. S. was too addicted to his mobile phone to notice the fountain ahead—walking straight into it.And as mobile-phone use has grown—to about 77% of the world’s population, the study says—so has the number of phone-related accidents. The number of U. S. emergency-room visits linked to phone use on the move doubled to as many as 1, 500 between 2005 and 2010, an Ohio State University study recently showed.Authorities world-wide have taken note. Signs on Hong Kong’s subway system advise passen gers in three languages to keep their eyes off their phones. Police and transport authorities have also warned the danger in Singapore, where the Straits Times newspaper ranked it as No. 2 Bad Habit due to the rising number of road deaths. Some U. S. states, including New York and Arkansas, are even considering bans on this act.The Australian study used 26 volunteers, a third of whom admitted having hit objects while texting. They were fitted with different equipment in different parts of their body, and asked to walk 8. 5 meters three times—once without a phone, once while reading a text and once while writing a text—while eight cameras captured the action.Volunteers using the phone walked slower and with shorter steps(and slowest of all whentyping), and more seriously, they locked their arms and elbows in like“robots〞, in the researchers’words. That forced their heads to move more, throwing them off balance.“In a pedestrian environment, inability to maintain a straight path would be likely to increase potential for hits, falls and traffic accidents, 〞said Mr van den Hoorn. “The best thing to do is to step aside and stop, or keep off the phone. 〞【文章大意】本文主要介绍了什么是低头族以与这样会对自己或别人有什么样的危害。

专题强化练(十一) 词句揣测题——代词指代类A(2024·大连市高三双基测试)Cities have been described as essential to climate change solutions, but they can also raise the kinds of ecologists that will bring us into a more comprehensive biological future. As a black wildlife biologist from Philadelphia,I stood out among my coworkers. My presence in ecology has challenged assumptions about not only what a biologist looks like, but also where a biologist comes from.In the U.S.,ecology was conducted in rural landscapes, but I had no history of camping, fishing, hunting or hiking.I had yet to recognize that Philadelphia, with its four seasons and the richness of squirrels(松鼠),row houses and festivals, was actually my first ecological classroom. There I witnessed wild cats eating birds and rats, people shooting bats from their homes and snakes being killed by lawnmowers(割草机).This is as much ecology in action as anything we witness in fields and forests.Urban wild animals exhibit many features and behaviors that set them apart from their rural twins:They may be bigger, eat more diverse food, are active at different times of the day, move differently and have different personalities. Some biologists argue they are even“smarter”.Besides, urban wildlife balances more risks—such as road chemical poisons and diseases from domestic animals—with rewards. Some of those rewards come from humans providing food and some from the distribution of our parks and water bodies. In our professional lives as biologists, living with such wild animals can make us more tolerant of species diversity, which can benefit the natural world.Nature is no longer only primitive wilderness but includes sounds of human laughter and garbage trucks. We expect more biologists from urban settings because urban environments naturally train keen observers who are the future of ecology.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文。

增分强化练(八) 阅读理解×2+语法填空+短文改错+书面表达(限时60分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解AChengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, has an ancient petition with Chongqing, a city to its southeast.Residents of Chongqing accused their Chengdu cousins of being pompous (自大的).“The people of Chongqing were hotheads”,Chengdu residents shot back. Both cities share a love of spiceladen Sichuan cuisine, which in recent decades has occupied Chinese dinner tables. But they are at war over which has the best Sichuan hotpot—a type of DIYcooking that involves boiling vegetables and slices of meat with chillies and numbing peppercorns.A private museum in Chongqing, opened several years ago, makes the case for the Chongqingstyle hotpot. It describes how it developed from a method used to make cheap offcuts of meat taste delicious. But Chengdu is playing catchup. In January the city sold a plot of land on condition that the developer builds a hotpot museum on part of it.The two cities are among many in China with their own styles of hotpot.Hotpot restaurants in China are more profitable than other kinds.Haidilao, a wellknown Sichuanbased hotpot chain, raised nearly $1 billion when it was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (股票交易所) in September. Not all Chinese warm to hotpot. Some older Sichuanese refuse to be connected with it.They plain that it is causing overuse of chilli in other dishes that cover up the original genuine flavours. But Chengdu's plans for a museum suggest that Sichuan hotpot is not only growing in popularity, but is also being symbolic. If it can set the West on fire, officialsmay hope it will bee a delicious new source of Chinese soft power. There will be plenty of glory for both Chengdu and Chongqing to take pride in if that happens.[语篇解读] 本文是一篇议论文。

When the bottle got to me, I thought: “What should I do? ”I took a swig. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I had to drive home later that night.I went back to my car, got in and drove off. At a stop sign I saw a policeman sitting in the parking lot across the street. His headlights were turned on, and I knew he was going to follow me. Then he flashed his lights at me. All I could think was: “Oh no, that swig! ”I pulled over and waited for him to come to my door. It felt like forever. “Can I see your license and registration, please, Miss? ”I gave them to him. He took them and went back to his car for a while. When he returned, he asked if I had been drinking.“No, ”I said. He asked me to step out of my car.“Walk heel to toe down the white line, please. ”I passed thetest. Next he had me stand on my left foot, lift my right foot and hold it for 30 seconds. He called my parents and told them where I was.I went to court two months after that, charged with refusing to obey an officer. I got a $700(4, 340 yuan) fine and 40 hours of community service. I’ll be on probation(缓刑)for a year, and I’ll have to take the driving test again. I lost my license for a whole year. This was a huge learning experience for me. Ⅱ. 阅读理解I don’t ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again. There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories aboutwhat it’s like to work in a field dominated by men. I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting. What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time and the nature of black holes. At 19, when I began studying astrophysics, it did not bother me in the least to be the only woman in the classroom. But while earning my Ph. D. at MIT and then as a post-doctor doing space research, the issue started to bother me. My every achievement—jobs, research papers, awards—was viewed through the lens of gender(性别)politics. So were my failures. Sometimes, when I was pushed into an argument on left brain versus(相对于)right brain, or nature versus nurture(培育), I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind. Then one day a few years ago, out of my mouth came a sentence that would eventually become my reply to any and all provocations(刺激): I don’t talk about that anymore. It took me 10 years to get back the confidence I had at 19 and to realize that I didn’t want to deal with gender issues. Why should curing sexism be yet another terrible burden on every female scientist? After all, I don’t study sociology or political theory.I research and teach at Barnard, a women’s college in New York City. Recently, someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women. You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able toanswer, 45. I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children. And I don’t dismiss those concerns. Still, I don’t tell them“war”stories. Instead, I have given them this: the visual of their physics professor heavily pregnant doing physics experiments. And in turn they have given me the image of 45 women driven by a love of science. And that’s a sight worth talking about.【文章大意】这是一篇与性别歧视有关的文章, 讲的是女性应该如何面对性别歧视的问题。
