I would hope all parents would respond in this manner.② I recently heard a story about a famous research scientist(研究科学家,高级研究员)who had made several very important medical breakthroughs. (2)He was interviewed by a newspaper reporter who asked him why he was so much more creative than the average person; what set him so far apart from others?③ He responded that, in his opinion, it all came from an experience with his mother that occurred when he was about two years old. (3)He had been trying to riove a bottle of milk from the refrigerator when he lost his grip on the slippery bottle and it fell, spilling its contents all over the kitchen floor - a veritable sea of milk!④When his mother came into the kitchen, instead of yelling at him, giving him a lecture, or punishing him, she said," (4)Robert, what a great and wonderful mess you have made! I have rarely seen such a huge puddle of milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to getdown and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?"⑤ Indeed, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said,"You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, eventually you have to clean it up and restore everything to its proper order. So, how would you like to do that? We could use a sponge, a towel, or a mop. Which do you prefer?" he chose the sponge and together they cleaned up the spilt milk.⑥ His mother then said, "You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry a big milk bottle with two tiny hands. Let's go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it." (5)The little boy learned that if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it. Whata wonderful lesson! (承上总结句)⑦ (6)The renowned scientist riarked that it was at that moment that he knew he didn't need to be afraid to make mistakes. (7)Instead, he learned that mistakes were just opportunities for learning something new, which is, after all, what scientific experiments are all about. Even if the experiment "doesn't work," we usually learn something valuable from it.⑧ (8)Wouldn't it be great if all parents would respond the way Robert's mother responded to him? 1. Well, we all know there is no use crying over split milk. There / It is no use crying over spilt milk.

They are eager to lead a life that is less stressful intellectually and less pressing economically. In their eyes, they could get a decent job without higher education. However, some students plan to continue their education. They find that the knowledge and skills acquired at secondary level of education are far from adequate in the job market. It is a factthat an ever-increasing number of graduates are returning to school, motivated by the need to update their knowledge and enhance their skills. All this indicates that lack of higher education can hardly qualify students for a competitive po-sition. If I were able to choose for myself, I would prefer to stay and continue my education. I know my choice would mean a commitment of time and money. Opportunities, however, always take the form of hardships and risks. The days might be rigorous and painstaking, but they would certainly be fulfilling and rewarding, and would surely lead to a prosperous future.Unit2Text AI. 1-5 DACBBII Section A1. effectively2. response3. discover4. occur5. rare6. scientificSection B1. remove2. eventually3. opportunity4. renowned 6. remarkSection C1. to2. so3. to4. on5. in6. forIII. 1. fear 2. under 3. unavoidable 4. success 5. without6. reach7. between8. so that9. as long as 10. wiselyText BI Section A .1. With a strong will, one can focus all his energy on one point, which makes his success possible. Without a strong will, however, one can be easily distracted from his goal or discouraged by setbacks.History abounds with examples of strong-willed figures winning success. Look at the deeds of Gou Jian, king of Yue in ancient China. Defeated by Fu Chai, king of Wu, Gou tried every possible ins to steel his will. Eventually, with the help of Fan Li and Xi Shi, he managed to rebuild his country and his armies and had Fu Chai taste the bitterness of failure. In short, a strong will is the most important way to success. One should lose no chance to strengthen his will and remember: God helps those who help themselves.Unit 3Text AI. 1-5 A B B A BII.Section A1. recognition2. reflection3. undisputed4. loyalty5. essential6. assuranceSection B1. sought2. requested3. challenge4. mutual5. virtue6. generationSection C1. of2. in3. of4. of5. through6. inIII1. I think there are advantages of job-hopping.For newly minted college graduates, job-hopping can speed career advancement. Changing jobs and getting a promotion in the process allows employees to avoid the "dues paying" that can trap workers in a painfully slow ascent up the corporate ladder. Job hopping can also lead to greater jot fulfillment, because it means trying out a variety of roles and workplaces while learning new skills along the way.People often think today' s young workers like us change their jobs too often, and they lack the patience to settle down. Actually, we are more concerned than our predecessors with finding happi-aess and fulfillment in our work lives. Indeed, since humans have been proven to be terrible at predicting what will make us happy, it's crucial that we find it through trial-and-error.Keys to Self-Assessment 1第一部分1-10 C B B C B B C A A A第二部分11-15 D B D C A第三部分Task 1 16-20 E A F B CTask 2 21-25 B E D C A第四部分26-30 F A D C B H第五部分31-40 H D C K L F E J B第六部分41. encourage 42 careful 43. particularly 44. implication 45. trained46. impression 47. communication 48. respectful 49. designer 50. logical第七部分WritingI'm very glad to have won the first place in the English Speech Contest. They are crazy for everything prevailing in society, from clothes to luxurious mobile phones. The reasons behind such a phenomenon can be summarized as follows. First, college students are open-minded and are willing to accept new things, so pursuing famous brands well reflects their pioneering spirit. Second, in modern society, famous brands mean fashion to some extent, which has drawn college students' attention. What' s more, some students were spoiled when they were children , which lead to such a terrible consumption habit. As far as I am concerned, college students should have the pioneering spirit. However, the spirit cannot be reflected in pursuing fashion, but in their great academic achievements. What they should do is to put determined efforts into studying to achieve better academic performance, instead of more expensive famous brand products.Unit 7.Text AI. 1-5D C B A AII Section A1. precisely2. hesitate3. wonderful4. emotion5. ignorance6. completeSection B1. attached2. attempts3. upset4. overwhelming5. prompt6. innerSection C1. took2. with3. for4. took5. in6. withIII1. choose2. opportunity3. view4. accordingly5. end up6. interact7. night8. what9. nonstopText BI SectionA.1. However, in such a dilemma, quite a few graduates still choose to go back home. Well, they have their own reasons such as to complete their original dreams, to help build their hometowns, and to reunite with their families. As the Chinese old saying goes, what comes from the soil will return to the soil; falling leaves will settle on the root. Looked forward to your reunion with parents, longed for your intelligence to help develop your hometown, besides the job-hunting issue, upon the graduation it' s certainly better to go back to hometown than to stay in big cities. Meanwhile the number of Chinese students especially the younger students studying abroad has been growing dramatically in recent years. What has brought about the huge growth That must be the result of the interaction of many factors! First of all, the United States has the world' s most advanced educational resources, you can never get this level of quality in China. Now more and more people are beginning to discover the benefits of quality education, so they send their children to the US. Second, more and more Chinese begin to accept western culture. There' s no doubt that studying abroad is a good way to learn it. Third, the Chinese begin to get rich. This is the direct cause of this phenomenon.Obviously, the US can provide the best education in the world. We will benefit a lot if we treat the difficulties as challenges and opportunities rather than threats. They are two different attitudes towards life. The former reflects we have a positive mind and we want to solve all those problems, while the latter means we have a negative mind and do not have courage to face difficulties. Therefore, I think challenges play an important role in our life. They require us to improve ourselves constantly, so we will become stronger in the process of taking challenges. But, how should we prepare ourselves to meet challenges First, we should have a right attitude towards difficulties, which are opportunities to test our abilities rather than enemies who want to defeat us. Second, we should always believe ourselves. God helps those who help themselves. No one in the world should believe you more than you do. Finally, enjoy the pleasure of solving problems and overcoming difficulties. Real happiness comes from hard-won achievements. Difficulties and challenges are our friends who help us in our way to become a stronger person.Unit 10Text AI. 1-5 A B D D CII. But it also brings the government a new problem, because too many young workers need to take the buses to work at rush hour. Then, some people suggest canceling the free ride for seniors at rush hour.I strongly disagree with the suggestion because it is a symbol of social progress to show our care and concern for seniors. No matter whether the government provides free bus travel for seniors or not, the demands for traveling won't decrease. The key to alleviate the traffic jam relies on more public transportation, wider roads and fewer private vehicles. We could encourage citizens to go to work by riding their bicycles or walk to work if the distance is not too far, which is also a good chance to exercise at the same Be. Also it is advisable for the seniors to avoid going out at the rush hour.In my opinion, we can go on giving due respect to seniors, but at the same time, the government should come up with more efficient ways to solve the problems of traffic jam rather than just cancel the free bus travel for seniors.Unit 11Text AI. 1-5 A D B A CII Section A1. merely2. intimate3. determine4. romantic5. perception6. intenseSection B1. convey2. revealed3. variety4. suspected5. potential6. personality Section C1. to2. under3. as4. in5. of6. toIII1. everywhere2. get up3. enjoy 5. while6. daily7. since8. in touch with9. use 10. communicateText BI. My best friend, Tom, has become addicted to online chat rooms and games for a while and our friendship has started to suffer. Here are my plans to maintain our friendship; On the one hand, I have signed up for us in a music club. My friend is a great fan of the Beatles. If there is a chance for him to join in a music club, he would be more than happier to accept. Then, he would be fully occupied by the schedule of the music club instead of being distracted on the Internet only.On the other hand, people can actually make friends and air their views freely online. When they feel frustrated, they may talk with a stranger online rather than with their parents or friends. When the chat is over, they feel contented and refreshed. Being a great friend of his, I will apply for a new account to contact him. Considered as astrange person, I can find his problems more easily and help him to solve them in certain ways. With my patience and accompany, Tom will eventually realize that online chatting is a waste of time. Cosmetic surgery can be exactly what you need to enhance your self-image. Having a positive self-image can give you the self-confidence that you need to get a better job, try new things and it will give you a general overall feeling of well-being.Another advantage of plastic surgery is the ability to correct physical defects. Some people are born with physical defects that have plagued them since birth and cosmetic surgery can finally give them a shot at a normal life.If you are in good general health and decide that cosmetic surgery is something that you want to do, do research on the particular procedures that you are interested in so that you know what you are getting into. Make sure you can afford it financially and choose your doctor or surgeon carefully. Then you are able to make an informed and responsible decision. All in all, the advantages of cosmetic surgery can outweigh the risks if it can change your life for the better.

There was a time when the necessary knowledge could be taught to the young by family members. But as societies became more complex and division of labor more common, it was impossible for family members to teach the information and skills young people needed to become useful members of the society. As the need for specialists appeared, the job of teaching came into being in our country, and teaching as a job has been of increasing importance over the past one hundred years. Today, we have strict rules for teachers. We hope all children can go to school. Many things tell us that teaching is indeed an “important” job.In recent years, there has been an increasing need for teachers to be “responsible”. This means that the public expects teachers to succeed in teaching important information to the young. Teachers’ salaries today, while not much, certainly are much higher than they were in the past. These increases have come about because people have realized that without enough salaries, people who have abilities will not become teachers. Today almost no one says that “anybody will do” for a teacher. The public expects “quality people” to teach the young, and progress is being made to give salaries that will make people who have abilities become teachers.31. Before the job of teaching came into being ________.A. family members had been responsible for the education of the youngB. specialists had been in charge of teaching young peopleC. young people had to be self-educatedD. the society had played an important role in educating young people32. Teachers’ salaries are raised today in order to ________.A. show the importance of teaching as a jobB. attract more qualified people to become teachersC. make teachers “responsible” in their teachingD. improve the quality of public teaching34. “Anybody will do” for a teacher (in paragraph 2) means that ________.A. almost all people want to become teachersB. a teacher is so highly respected that people all want to help himC. a teacher will do whatever he can for his studentsD. the job of teaching is so easy that everybody can do it35. The main idea of the passage is that ________.A. greater progress has to be made in teachingB. enough salaries are necessary in making “quality people” become teachersC. it is important to be successful in teaching the youngD. teaching is a product of the society's division of labor.Passage 236.37.38.39.40.Passage 341.42.43.44.45.(共15题)Part IV Vocabulary and Structure (25 points)Section ADirections: In this section there are 15 incomplete sentences.
