"There's nothing to discuss," shouted my husband when I told him that Rose, our 15-year-old daughter, had asked whether she could go to Beijing for a holiday with her friends. "Of course she can't. She's too young to travel without an adult. It's completely
out of the question."
So why did I find myself standing, two weeks later, at Lishe Airport? Tearfully, I watched our oldest child disappear through the security checkpoint. In four hours' time, she would be in Beijing. It's 1,300 kilometers away from Ningbo!
There comes a time when you have to let your baby go- for many parents. It's around the age of 15. We know that there is likely to be something more dangerous than hanging around by the pool, but the time would come to trust that they have already grown up and can be independent.
But I still felt worried. Rose tried to put my mind at rest. She said she and her friends would always look after one another and that it really was all going to be okay.
After we had waved our last goodbye at the airport, I looked back. To my surprise, she was looking back at me, too. Teenagers want to cut free, but it's a frightening business for them, too.
We made Rose promise to send messages as soon as she had arrived in Beijing and she should do that at least once a day. At around 9 a.m. the next morning, her first message came through. It was twelve hours since I had left her at Lishe. But all I got was: I'm here.
I wish it was safer than I thought before. But like all the dangers that life can hold for them, all you can do is to warn them, warn them again, warn them once again.
Luckily, Rose showed up at Lishe Airport 5 days later. My husband and I were really excited when we saw her. I know it was the time that we should trust she could take care of herself.
19. Where does Rose's family live?
A. Beijing.
B. Ningbo.
C. Hangzhou.
D. Shanghai.

B. Find a safer place.

21. When did Rose return after she left at Lishe Airport?
A. Three hours later.
B. Twelve hours later.
C. Five days later.
D. Two weeks later.
22. Where can we most probably find this passage?
A. In a travel guide.
B. In a history book.
C. In a science newspaper.
D. In a teen magazine.

Water plays an important role in keeping you healthy. This should come as no surprise. Much of your body is made up of water, after all. It keeps your body working properly. But did you know that too much water can poison (使..中毒) you?
Water poisoning happens when people drink too much water. This makes sodium(钠) in their blood too little.
You probably already know that too much sodium can be unhealthy. That's true, but too little is also harmful. When you have too little sodium in your body, a lot of things will go seriously wrong in your body. Then you will feel really terrible.
Your brain may begin to go wrong. You may get a headache, feel very tired and want to throw up. In these cases, water poisoning can be deadly. You will need to be sent to a hospital right away.
Protecting yourself from water poisoning may seem easy -just don't drink too much water, right? In some situations, however, this is easier said than done. For example, when you do some heavy exercise, such as running a marathon, you may have to drink a lot of water. It is then important to balance the number of water you drink with the number of water your body is losing. This can help you stay healthy whenever you are exercising.
So, how much water should a person drink each day? For years, we have been told to drink two liters(升) of water a day. But in fact, the actual number needed is different for each person. Today, most doctors are telling people that they should drink water whenever they feel thirsty. We can't live without water. Neither can we live with too much water in our bodies. Make sure you take the right number of it each day- staying healthy is all about staying balanced!
23. What is much of people's body made up of according to the passage?
A. Water.
B. Blood.
C. Hair.
D. Brain.
24. How does water poisoning happen?
a. People feel really terrible.
b. People drink too much water.
c. A lot of things go seriously wrong.
d. There is too little sodium in their blood.
A. c-b-a-d
B. b-c-a-e
C. b-d-c-a
D. b-a-d-c
25. Which of the following is True according to the passage?
A. Water poisoning won't make people die.
B. Different people need different number of water.
C. Too little sodium will not be harmful to people's health.
D. It's easy for people to protect from water poisoning.
26. Why did the writer write this passage?
A. To tell us stay in good health.
B. To tell us stay in a balance of water.
C. To tell us drink as less water as possible.
D. To tell us drink two liters of water a day.
