I never planned to be a teacher. I was headed for a law school for a real career. Teaching was something to “get out of my system”. I would teac h a couple of years and then go to get a real job. After the first couple of years, I promised myself I wo uld leave if I didn’t love my job any more. Twenty-nine years later, that day still has not come.
So, why do I say? I stay because I laugh and learn every day. The children are funny, insightful, and honest. If
my shoes don’t match my outfit, they tell me. If my
argument that Invisible Man is an important twentieth century classes doesn't convince them, they tell me.
I stay because every single day is different. Some days, my lessons are great, and I have cases of students who are engaged in reading, writing and thinking. Some days, my lessons fall flat, and I realize that I need to start from scratch — even after 29 years.
I stay because I love to see the children realize that they have learned something — whether it's how to craft an argumentative thesis sentence or how to understand the effect of repetition in The Declaration of Independence. I love to see the children write well; I love the feeling of reading a well-argued essay, and I love smiling as I write a final “Awesome job!” on a paper on which a s tudent has worked hard.
I stay because what I’ve learned in 29 years is that I do have
a “real” jo
b — the most real job there is. It's the one that leads to other jobs, that helps to create good thinkers who go on to be productive in our society, and that supports our community as it grows and times change. My job is among the ones that matter most.
24.The author became a teacher because he .
A. needed money to go to a law school.
B. loved dealing with children.

A. often pays no attention to his outfit.
B. is good at convincing his students.
C. enjoys his time with his students
D. doesn't read many classics
26.According to Paragraph 4, the author continues to teach most probably because .
A. teaching makes him feel he has made achievements.
B. teaching makes him realize every day is different.
C. he can learn a lot of things from teaching.
D. he likes to be praised by his students.
27. What is the passage mainly about?
A. What the author has learned as a teacher.
B. What the author thinks of being a teacher.
C. Why the author chooses to become a teacher.
D. Why the author chooses to stay as a teacher.

How to travel around the world without spending money?
When you're sitting behind your desk waiting for the clock to strike a time when you can go home, it is natural that the mind can wander a bit. It isn’t uncommon for your mind to wander to a vacation and even travelling the world. What if there was a way that you could travel around the world without having to use any savings accounts and credit cards that you have to your name? The world has many hidden gems and there has to be more to life than an ordinary 9 to 5.
A person that managed to make it around the world without spending much was Shantanu Starick. He wanted to travel across all seven continents without spending a coin; instead he would trade off his photography services for food and a place to stay. If he can do it, so can you.
1. How did he trade off his services?
Starick realized that as a photographer he had a service that people would usually be willing to pay money for, but what if he asked for something instead of money that would directly help
him with his traveling ambitions?
He would instead offer his photography services to anyone who could provide him with food, shelter and transportation. By doing this he was able to travel the world without spending a single penny. By photographing bed and brea kfasts and hotels he is able to get some of the best night’s sleep you can imagine.
2. Where has Starick been able to travel?
At the time of writing this post, Starick has been traveling for extremely exciting 30 months and has visited countries ranging from the United States to Ecuador! He has a skill that is appreciated across the world and marketing it effectively has allowed him to find a new place to travel once he completes every project.
Despite traveling for such a length of time, Starick still has countless countries to visit, which is a testament (证明)to the amount of natural beauty that our planet has to offer.
3. An authentic experience
The trades are quite straightforward, Starick has spoken of a woman he met in New Jersey who loved to cook. He offered to take pictures of her food and kitchen for a night's sleep and some food in his belly.
Who needs an expensive hotel when you can have such an authentic(正宗的) experience with locals? Staying in people’s homes and eating like a local allows Starick t o have an experience that is unmatched.
4. Communicating with locals
In mostly English speaking countries, trading off services and communicating isn't difficult for Starick. However, in more remote areas where there isn't an English speaking person in sight it can be quite difficult. China is still a country Sarick needs
to visit and smaller settlements won't speak English, so he'll be served well by learning a few basic Chinse phrases to get him started. More than anything locals appreciate the effort behind trying to speak their language, even if you don’t exactly sound like a native speaker.
5.
………………………. (Here 100 words are omitted)

B. Starick doesn't have clear life goals.

30. Which of the fowling can best serve as the 5th subtitle?
A. You can do it too.
B. Places of interest around the world.

Millennials (those who were between ages 20 to 35 in 2016) will become the largest generation in 2019 — so what happens to real estate (房地产)?
According to the new report from Apartment List, although nine out of ten millennials who rent want to purchase a home, very few actually have immediate plans to do so. Just 4.9 percent say they’re able to do so in the next year, while 34 percent say they expect it to take upwards of five years.
Unsurprisingly, the era when they were born plays a big role in that: Much of the generation came of age during the Great Recession(衰退), which limited their work opportunities and potentially affected their lifetime earnings.
And while the cost of college has risen more than 1,000 percent since the 1970s, millennial salary is disproportionately low compared to the national average, and 20 percent lower than b aby boomer’ sal aries were at the same age. While (and because) the generation is the most educated across the board, they’re also the most saddled (承担) with student debt.
So it’s no surprise that affordability and saving foe a down payment(首付) are counted among the biggest financial hurdles preventing millennial renters from buying homes. A shocking 48 percent of those surveyed by Apartment List said they haven’t been able to save anything for a down payment.
Apartment List estimated more than 70 percent of millennials in Seattle would over 20 years to save for a down payment.
Even with programs that help make down payments more affordable to help out those who said that was the main thing stopping them (71.5 percent of the more than 6,000 people
surveyed), 29.1 percent sa y they couldn’t afford a monthly mortgage payment.
Given that some 90 percent of those surveyed said they still valued home ownership, that’s not the disconnect the generation seems to be having. Owning a house has been a key source of wealth creation, with many homeowners citing their house as their largest financial asset(资产)。
A generation laden with student debt, inactive wage growth, and rapid home price appreciation has made owning a house a much more long-term goal —if it’s possible a t all — than it was for previous generations.
In Seattle, which spent a fair amount of 2018 at the top of the list for biggest home increases in price, it seems that millennials are even more out to sea, having to land a spot in a competitive market where the median sales price is around $700,000.
If you’re looking for affordable housing in Seattle, you’re likely to be looking a long time. Based on our calculations, just two out of 40 Seattle neighborhoods are within reach for households earning the median income in the ci ty, which is $83,476, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent data.
32. A majority of millennials don’t plan to buy a house in 2019 because .
A. they can't afford a down payment
B. they would rather rent one
C. they are afraid of falling into debt
D. the government lacks assistance programs
33. Compared to previous generations, millennials .
A. have more job chances
B. can own a house in the same period of time
C. pay a little more for higher education
D. bear more pressure of life
34. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. A down payment has the same meaning as a mortgage payment.
B. Seattle is the most livable city for millennials.
C. Millennials are holding a positive attitude towards life.
D. All homeowners see their houses as their largest property.
35. The author writes the passage mainly to .
A. warn millennials of the hardships.
B. make predictions of the real estate in 2019.
C. draw a conclusion about real estate in 2018.
D. advertise for house sales.

Five Group Texting Etiquette Rules Everyone Should Follow
Here's how not to be the most annoying person on your group text chain.
Don't star conversation at night
36 Don't start a group text conversation at night when everyone probably has somewhere to be in the morning. A good time to start a group text is the late afternoon or in the evening when people are getting home from work and will be free to engage in a conversation.
Don’t only talk t o one person
You know that moment when a group conversation turns into just two people? Avoid that all costs. 37 If you have something separate to discuss, take it to a private chat and spare everyone else in the group.
38
Allow everyone to get a chance to talk. When the group is discussing one subject. Make sure everyone has contributed to the conversation before moving on to something else. It gets confusing when someone starts talking about a separate topic and everyone is scrolling back to catch up on what's happening. The conversation will flow so much better if you give everyone a chance to keep up.
Participate
No need to drop everything for every single conversation. but don’t be that person who stays silent 90 percent of the time. You aren't doing your friends any favors if you're keeping up with the texts and just not bothering to respond. You were included in this group for a reason. 39
Announce if you are leaving the conversation
Don't ghost your text message group. If you're busy or just can't continue the conversation, let everyone know you're leaving so they won't expect a response from you any more. You know when you don't look at a group chat for a few minutes and it's filled with everyone saying. “Where's Sarah? Did she leave? Hello?” 40 Just be considerate and say that you can't talk.
A. That's never fun for anyone.
B. You don't need an audience for your one-on-one conversation.
C. Making plans or sharing an article or funny picture are all reasons to group text.
D. Don't rush the conversation
E. Trying to get to sleep when your phone is buzzing like crazy is the worst.
F. Besides, group texting etiquette guarantees some sort of
reply.
G. Text people who know each other.
