我们应该被允许自己做决定英语作文We Should Be Allowed to Make Our Own Decisions
Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I think kids like me should be allowed to make more of our own decisions instead of always having adults tell us what to do. I'm not saying we should be able to do anything we want with no rules. But I think we're a lot smarter and more capable than grown-ups give us credit for. If we got some practice making decisions when we're young, we'd get really good at it by the time we're adults.
One decision I think kids my age should get to make is what activities we do after school. Grown-ups are always signing us up for this lesson or that practice without even asking us if we want to do it. They think they know what's best, but how can they really know if we'll even enjoy it? What if I hate soccer but my parents make me play it? That's just wasting everyone's time.
Instead, kids should get a list of activity options like sports teams, music classes, art clubs, etc. We could pick a few that sound fun and try them out. If we end up not liking one, we could quit and try something new next semester instead of being stuck. I bet kids would work harder and have more fun if we got to choose activities we're actually interested in.
Another decision is what clothes we wear. I have to go school shopping with my mom every year and she picks out all my outfits. She has her own style preferences and doesn't let me get anything she thinks is too expensive, too trendy, or "just not cute". Even though it's my body and my clothes!
If I got to choose, I'd pick way cooler t-shirts with video game characters or superheroes instead of just plain colors. I'd get Basketball shoes instead of boring sneakers. And I probably wouldn't waste money on lots of fancy accessories I'll never wear. Kids have their own tastes and we'd do better expressing ourselves through fashion if we had a choice.
Food is another area where we should have more say. How many kids do you know who actually like brussels sprouts, liver, or beets? Probably not many because most grown-ups' idea of "good" food is just weird to kids. We'd be way more likely to eat healthy foods if we got to pick ones that sound tasty to us, like pizza with veggie toppings, fruit smoothies, or crunchy granola bars.
At restaurants, we always have to order from the "kid's menu" which is really limited and boring. Why can't we order whatever we want from the actual menu? If I see a dish on there that sounds good, I should be able to get that instead of just
chicken nuggets or a grilled cheese again. We're the ones eating it, after all.
One more big decision I think kids should help make is what our bedroom looks like. My room is super plain and babyish because my parents picked everything out. The walls are yellow which I didn't even get to choose. I have a boring wooden bed frame and dresser set. And the curtains have lame cartoon characters I'm too old for now.
If I got to design my room, it would look so much cooler! I'd pick a bold blue paint for the walls and get a new bed with a sweet design from my favorite video game. My desk would be a Schlacht Station battle desk for playing games while I work. And the curtains would be celestial patterns I picked out myself. With my own personal touches, my room would finally feel like my own space instead of just another room my parents decorated.
I could go on with more examples of decisions we should get to weigh in on, like family vacation spots, rules for tvtime and chores, or school choices. The point is, kids may be young but we're a lot more thoughtful, creative, and capable of making good choices than grown-ups think.
If we got practice analyzing options and making decisions that affect our own lives from an early age, we'd get really good
at it. We'd learn what it means to weigh pros and cons, think about consequences, and take responsibility for our choices. Then by the time we're adults, we'd be skilled, independent decision-makers instead of having to learn it all at once.
Of course, I'm not saying kids should get to do absolutely anything with zero adult input or rules. Parents and teachers would still need to guide us, set some limits for our safety, and veto any really bad or dangerous ideas we have. But for most of life's Day-to-day decisions that just affect our own personal lifestyle and preferences, we should get way more say.
We're the ones living this life, after all. Kids like me are a lot smarter and more thoughtful than we get credit for. If we got to practice making choices from an early age, we'd end up being way better at it than kids who always had everything decided for them. What's the point of growing up if you don't get to take charge of your own life along the way? We should get that freedom and responsibility while we're young so we can become wise, independent decision-makers by the time we're adults.
Those are just my thoughts, but I think a lot of other kids probably feel the same way as me about wanting more of a voice and choice in our own lives. We may be young, but we're ready to start calling some of the shots and living more on our own
terms. If grown-ups give us that chance now, it will make us more confident, independent people in the long run. What do you think? Should kids get more decision-making power or not?。
