Environment is my top concern
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I am very glad to be here and present a brief speech. Today my topic is “Environment is my top concern”.
Three months ago, a big earthquake hit Japan, which triggered the potential hazard of nuclear leak and radiation, posing a threat not only to themselves but also to neighboring countries. It is indeed a very serious disaster to human.And this once again made people think twice about the environmental issues.
Certainly natural disasters like earthquake are beyond our control but this does not justify us doing anything harmful to make the fragile environment any worse.The food we eat, the clothes we wear even the air we breathe all come from the environment.We cannot afford ignoring the importance of environment. However, the reality is, people choose to develop economy at the cost of environment, leaving behind serious soil loss, air pollution and fragile forests.
The deteriorating environment not only affects human’s life but also endan gers animal’s living condition. Many biologists claim that in 30 years, one-fifth species will disappear. That’s to say, there will be one animal or plant vanishing from the earth every 20 minutes. If this does not sound alarming enough, consider the fact that polar bear will disappear 70 years later thanks to global warming. By that time, our
grandson can only see their specimen in museum. And what if the next species to suffer is human beings?
So environment is very important for our survival, which affects our health and quality of life.If we do not start to protect the environment, he will definitely throw us something to remember by. Therefore what we should do is to put environmental protection on our top agenda. We can start by kicking some bad habits, such as using recycle bags, setting air conditioning at over 26 degrees and so on. Only so can we be able to ensure our future generation a blissful life.
Ladies and gentlemen，at the end of my speech, I’d like to reiterate that my top concern is our environment.
