语法填空
Yesterday afternoon I went to the South Lake Park. It happened that I saw a touching event. At that time, some people were boating on the lake. Among them was(be)a happy family. They were taking photos when suddenly the girl fell off the boat into the water. She was struggling and her parents cried out, “Help! Help!” It was evident(evidence) that they could not swim at all. From nearby a young man immediately rushed to the lake. Without taking off his clothes, he jumped into the water and quickly swam to/towards the girl, who was already tired out. At last he carried her to the bank. She was saved!
Schooling, on the other hand, is a basic experience, whose style changes little from one way to the next. Throughout a country, children arrive at school at the same time, take fixed(fix) seats, use similar textbooks, do homework, take exams and so on. Schooling has usually been limited by the edges of the subjects being taught.
Itool is where people go to get education. However, it has been said that today children interrupt their education to go to school. The difference between schooling and education suggested(suggest) by this is important.
Of course, if you want to know the story only, you need not bother about the language. But a student of English is different from a student of stories or what is called the general reader. As you may also have learned from the above, you ought to read not only very carefully but also aloud till/ until you learn the passage by heart and can recite it as if it were(be) your own. On one hand, this will teach you many useful words and phrases; on the other hand, it will help you to avoid many errors and faults in expression.
Education is endless, compared (compare) with schooling. It can take place anywhere. It includes both the standard learning that takes place in schools and the whole universe of learning out of class. Though/ Although/ While the experience of schooling can be known in advance, education quite often produces surprises. A chance talk with a foreigner (foreign) may lead a person to discovering how little he knows of another country. People obtain education from babies on. Education, then, is a very broad and unlimited term. It is lifelong experience that starts long before the start of school.
When you read a story in English, do you read it for the story or for the English? This is a question that/which is not so foolish(fool) as it may seem, for I find that many students of English pay far more attention to the story than to the English. For instance, they care for how the mystery in the story is solved(solve), but do not remember a single sentence in the story and cannot tell what preposition is used before a certain word in the speech of a certain character.
How happy and grateful the parents were! However, when they thought of expressing their thankfulness, the young man had disappeared(disappear).
We high school students do have some growing pains, but we can get rid of them correctly and wisely. First, some of us are upset about their body styles and looks. It’s unnecessary and it’s not important at all. We needn’t care about it. It is one’s inner beauty that matters. Second, we sometimes seem to be misunderstood by our teachers, parents and classmates. Faced(face) with this, we can find a proper time to have a heart-to-heart talk with them, trying to remove the misunderstanding (understand). Some of us have fewer friends. I think being open-minded and friendly(friend) will do you good . Third, we may fall behind others, which makes us stressed. Actually we can encourage ourselves to work efficiently, full of determination. At last, some of us don’t have much pocket money, so they feel unhappy. Isn’t it strange? So long as we have some, that’s enough. And we can learn how to spend money!
Peter is teaching in our school now. We all enjoy the lessons of spoken English, and it is he who lets us know what real living English is. All of us regard him not only as a teacher but also as a friend, and he likes staying(stay) with us after class and joins us in games such as basketball.
One by one the Arabs went into the chief’s tent, but the donkey did not bray. Then the chief asked his men to open their hands. He smelled their hands. After he smelled the hands of the last one he shouted, “You are the thief . Go and bring back our friend’s gold at once, or I’ll kill you!” The man brought the gold to the rich man. The rich man was surprised(surprise). The chief explained, “I was sure that the real thief dare not pull my donkey’s tail, so I rubbed the tail with some strongsmelling oil. There was no smell at all from the thief’s hands.”
Once a rich man met a group of Arabs in the desert. It was not long before they became friends. Then one day the rich man found his gold was gone. “Someone must have taken (take) it during the night,” he thought. The chief promised to find out the thief. He said to his men, “Each of you must go to my tent and pull my donkey’s tail. You all know that my donkey is very wise. When a thief touches (touch) his tail, he will bray(叫).”
