The rest of September was hard.I wasn't used to getting up so early in the morning.I wasn't used to being given homework. And I got my first"test"at the end of the month.I never got"tests"when Mom home-schooled me.I also didn't like how I had no free time any more. Before,I could play whenever I wanted to,but now it felt like I always had something to do for school.
And being at school was awful in the beginning.Every new class I had was like a new chance for kids to
"not look"at me in a strange way.My face would always surprise some kid who maybe hadn't heard about me. The kid would make the sound you make when you hold your breath before going underwater,a little"uh!" sound. This happened four or five times a day for the first few weeks. In the end, everyone was going to see my face at some time. And I knew after the first couple of days that word had got around me,because from time to time I'd catch a kid pushing his friend to make him or her to notice me as they passed me,or talking behind their hands as I walked by them.
I'm not saying they were doing any of these things in an unkind way,not once did any kid laugh or make noises or do anything like that. They were just being normal silly kids.I know that.I even wanted to tell them that.Like"It's okay,I know I'm strange-looking,take a look,I don't bite."Hey,the truth is,if a Wookiee(伍基人)started going to the school all of a sudden,I'd be interested.I'd probably look at him in a strange way!And if I was walking with Jack or Summer,I'd probably speak to them in a low voice:Hey,there's the Wookiee. And if the Wookiee caught me saying that,he'd know I wasn't trying to be unkind.I was just pointing out the fact that he's a Wookiee.

Paper cutting is a cultural tradition in China. For centuries,it has been passed down from one generation
to the next, especially from mothers to daughters. This beautiful art is used to decorate doors, windows, and beds in people's homes,or at celebrations such as birthdays and New Year.
The two main skills used are cutting the paper using a knife or scissors,or tearing(撕)it by hand.If the paper is cut,the edges are very smooth.Paper cutting can produce very fine work. This type of work is typical of southern China. If the paper is torn by hand, the edges are more simple and natural.Tearing is used more in northeast China. And different parts of China have their own motifs or pictures. These motifs can express many stories and ideas.
It can be hard to hold on to traditions like these because young people don't know much about traditional art.The experts are getting older. If young people don't learn the traditions, they won't be able to pass them down to their own children. But recently there is a change. There are more shows of traditional art.Artists are going into schools to teach children how to do paper cutting.Children enjoy working together with artists and talking to them about the meaning of their art.In this way, they are becoming proud of their culture and traditions.

Our brains believe information automatically—even if it’s false(假的)—because we can learn
efficiently this way.“We’re learning false information not because we’re poor learners or not working hard,”says David Rapp,a psychology and education professor at Northwestern University.“In many cases,it’s a useful skill for us to accept what people tell us,because often what people tell us is true.”
When we hear new information, those fresh facts don't cover what we knew before. We'll draw on old or new information when the situation comes up.▲Short-term memories are easier for our brains to access than facts we heard longer ago, because they're fresher in our minds-even if they're wrong.Since we have to think back further to remember old information,we will often ignore it in favor of new information.New information is what we're currently thinking about or has been recently presented to us,while the old one isn't as readily available.
We also buy into the facts that seem more reasonable.Often, this means they fit better with what we want to believe, which can explain why people quote(引用)different facts in politicaldebates. Both candidates said something that was objectively true or not,but people would go with what they hope to be true.
Things get even trickier when truth and falsehood coexist in the information. For instance, our brains aren't sure whether to believe the descriptions of London in Harry Potter."Don't lookfor that train station to Hogwarts, but there might be streets mentioned that are real,"says Dr.Rapp.In fact, our brains can keep track of what's true or false by mentally tagging(标记)facts as either true or false, but sorting all that information takes time.In many cases,we are unlikely to think critically to get information, especially when we are reading for pleasure.
However,it's worth putting in the extra effort to have a second thought about the information that seems doubtful."With the ease that we can look things up on the Internet,"says Dr.Rapp,"there's no reason not to.""Seek out reliable sources,"he adds.
42.Which of the following is best for the missing sentence in Para.2?
A.We always find the information updating fast nowadays.
B.From time to time,we fail to remember unimportant things.
C.Oftentimes,we use the information we heard most recently.
D.We hardly see old information that is different from the truth.
43.The underlined phrase"buy into"(in Para.3)can be best replaced by.
A.learn from
B.believe in
C.care about
e up with
44.Why does the writer mention Harry Potter in Para.4?
A.To show the information we get can be a mix of true and false.
B.To suggest people are unable to think critically when reading.
C.To warn readers of the negative influence of false information.
D.To explain how typical facts are mentally tagged as true or false.
45.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Our brains can do very little with false information.
B.Short-term memories can cover long-term memories.
C.Dr.Rapp calls on people not to depend on the Internet.
D.People need to double-check the information they question.

Dear Alice,
How nice to hear from you!The Double Reduction Policy has brought me lots of changes.I used to have too much homework and stay up late to finish it every night. What’s worse,I had to take many after-school classes on weekends. Thanks to the policy, now I have more free time and less homework. When I finish the classes at school,I can play sports with my classmates.Besides,I can take part in social activities.
In my opinion,it’s truly necessary to have the policy because it can develop our interests.More importantly, our life also becomes colorful.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Li hua。
