The 2018 A-Level English Exam - A Kid's Take
Wow, can you believe it? The big kids had to take their
A-Level English exam last year in 2018! That test must have been super hard. I'm just a little kid in elementary school, but I tried my best to understand the questions and answers. Let me tell you all about it!
First up was the reading comprehension section. They had to read these giant passages and answer questions about them. One passage was about the history of video games. How cool is that? I would have aced that part for sure because I'm a pro gamer! The questions asked things like what year the first video game was created and what some of the most popular games were. Easy peasy for this gaming expert!
Then there was a passage about climate change and the environment. That one seems a bit boring to me, but I know it's a really important topic. The questions asked students to summarize the main points and explain some of the causes and
effects of climate change. I may have struggled with that one since I'm just a kid and don't know too much science yet. But I'm sure all those smart older students wrote great answers.
The writing section looked hard! Students had to write different types of essays and articles. One prompt asked them to give their opinion on whether PE classes should be mandatory in schools. As a kid who loves gym class and recess, I definitely would have said yes to keeping PE! We need time to run around and get our energy out. Another prompt wanted students to write a short story from the perspective of an inanimate object. How weird is that? Like writing as a pencil or a water bottle? I'd try my best, but I'm not sure how good my story would be.
Then there were questions on grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary. Ugh, that's the boring stuff! But it's probably important for doing well on the exam. I'm still learning lots of those grammar rules in school. Vocabulary is fun though –I'm picking up new words all the time from books I read.
The exam also had a section on spoken language skills. Students had to answer questions based on recordings of conversations and speeches. That sounds really hard to me! Listening carefully is one of the trickiest things. I often zone out
when my teacher is talking. Hopefully I'll get better at listening by the time I'm old enough for my A-Levels.
So yeah, that's my take on the 2018 A-Level English exam questions and answers! It seems crazy difficult to me as a little kid. I can't even imagine having to take a test like that. Those teenagers must be super smart and work really hard in school. I'll just be over here reading comics and playing video games for now. Maybe someday I'll be ready for an exam that intense. But ugh, not for a loooong time!

2018 English A-Level Exam: A Kid's Perspective
Wow, the 2018 English A-Level exam was really hard! I'm just a kid in elementary school, but my older brother had to take it since he's in his last year of high school. He let me look at the questions after he was done and I have to say, I'm super glad I didn't have to answer those!
The first section was all about reading comprehension. There were a few long passages to read and then tons of questions about analyzing the writing style, identifying themes, making inferences, and all that complicated stuff. One passage was about the history of some ancient civilization. Another was some
really old poem that didn't make any sense to me. My brother said understanding those passages and questions was like trying to read alphabet soup!
Then there was a section on literary analysis. The students had to write essays analyzing specific novels, plays, and poetry collections that they had studied in their English courses. Can you imagine having to write a whole essay just analyzing one book? And these weren't even fun, modern books - they were all classics from like a billion years ago that nobody actualy enjoys reading anymore. Snooze fest!
My personal favorite section was the creative writing part. Students had to choose from a handful of writing prompts and craft either a narrative story or a descriptive essay. One prompt was to write a story about going on an adventure. Another prompt asked students to describe their dream vacation destination in great detail. Those could actually be kind of fun for a kid to write about! Although knowing the exam graders, they probably wanted super serious, scholarly responses without much creativity or imagination.
After the creative writing was a huge grammar section where they had to analyze sentences, identify parts of speech, explain proper usage of punctuation and capitalization, and prove they
knew all sorts of crazy grammar rules that nobody actually follows when speaking and writing in real life. Who even talks like that anyways? Not me!
The very last section covered literary techniques and devicES like metaphor, simile, rhyme scheme, foreshadowing, paradox, and other fancy literary terms. Students had to identify examples of each technique in given excerpts. Then they had to explain how certain techniques were used to contribute to the overall meaning or effect of the written works. Sounds kind of complicated if you ask me!
By the end of it all, my brother looked exhausted. He said it was one of the hardest tests he'd ever taken, with so many reading, writing, and analyzing tasks to complete in one sitting. I'll admit, some of the creative writing prompts piqued my interest. But having to write essays analyzing ancient literature and identify all those literary techniques and grammar rules? No thank you! I'll stick to reading Captain Underpants and watching Phineas and Ferb for now.
When I'm in high school and have to take that crazy A-Level English exam, someone please remind me of this essay so I can start studying wayyyy in advance. Or maybe I'll just pursue a career in something that doesn't involve so much reading and
writing. Like a zookeeper or racecar driver! Now those jobs sound fun. Anyways, mad props to any students who can master all that reading, writing, and literary analysis required for the
A-Level English tests. You're going to need those skills if you want to get into a good university. As for me, I'll keep working on mastering the art of good ol' show-and-tell!

My Vacation
Last summer, I had the best vacation ever! My family and I went to the beach. We stayed in a cozy little cottage near the ocean. Every morning, we woke up to the sound of seagulls and the waves crashing against the shore.
During the day, we built sandcastles, swam in the clear blue water, and had picnics on the beach. I even learned how to surf! It was so much fun riding the waves and feeling the wind in my hair.
In the evenings, we would have bonfires and roast marshmallows. We told stories and laughed a lot. I loved spending time with my family and making new friends at the beach.
I will never forget this amazing vacation. It was a time of adventure, relaxation, and lots of laughter. I can't wait for the next summer vacation!

The 2018 English A-Level Exam – A Kid's Perspective
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. This year, I had to take the big English A-Level exam, just like all the other kids my age. It was a really important test, and I was pretty nervous about it. But now that it's over, I can tell you all about it!
The exam was split into different sections, and each one tested us on different things. The first part was all about reading. They gave us a few passages to read, and then asked us questions about what we had just read. Some of the questions were pretty easy, like "What was the main idea of the passage?"
or "Who was the author talking about in this paragraph?" But other questions were a lot trickier. Like, they would ask us to make inferences or analyze the author's tone and purpose. That stuff was hard!
One of the reading passages was about the history of video games. As a kid who loves gaming, I was really excited to read that one. It talked about the very first video games ever made, and how they've evolved over time to become the amazing games we have today. The questions for that passage asked us to summarize the key points and explain how video games have impacted modern culture. I tried my best to give a good answer, using examples from the passage and my own knowledge about gaming.
The next section was writing, which I think is one of the hardest parts. We had to write two different essays – one persuasive essay and one story. For the persuasive essay, the prompt asked us to convince the reader whether schools should have longer lunch periods. I argued that yes, we should have longer lunches, because kids need more time to eat, socialize, and recharge for their afternoon classes. I tried to use lots of facts and logical reasoning to make my case.
Then for the story, we were given a picture prompt that showed a kid finding a glowing crystal in the woods. We had to write a creative story based on that image. I love using my imagination, so I had a lot of fun with this one! In my story, the kid found the crystal and it turned out to be magical, giving him the power to talk to animals. He went on an adventure helping the forest creatures, but then had to figure out how to get rid of the crystal's power before it got out of control. I made sure to include a clear beginning, middle, and end, with lots of descriptive details to make the story come alive.
After the writing section, we moved on to the Speaking and Listening part. This is where we had to have conversations and answer questions out loud. One of the tasks was to give a short speech about our favorite book or movie. I chose to talk about the Harry Potter series, since those are my absolute favorite books! I summarized the basic plot, described my favorite characters and scenes, and explained why I love the magic and adventure in those stories so much.
Another speaking task was to have a debate with a partner about whether kids should have set bedtimes. My partner argued that yes, bedtimes are important to make sure kids get enough sleep. But I argued against bedtimes, saying that kids
should be free to go to bed whenever they feel tired, as long as they're still getting the recommended amount of sleep overall. We had to take turns making points and refuting each other's arguments. It was kind of like the debates we have in class sometimes, but this one really counted towards our exam score!
The very last part of the exam was the Listening section. We had to listen to audio clips and podcasts, then answer comprehension questions about what we heard. One of the clips was an interview with a famous children's author talking about her writing process. Another one was a news segment reporting on a new video game that was getting popular with kids. As we listened, we had to take notes and identify key details and main ideas.
Well, that's pretty much everything I can remember about the crazy English A-Level exam! There were definitely some tough parts, but I tried my best on every section. I really hope I did well enough to get a good score. No matter what though, I'm just glad it's finally over! Getting through a huge test like that feels like an accomplishment in itself. Wish me luck on my results!

I tried to help her study, but half the time I didn't even understand the questions, let alone the answers!
The first section was all about literature, which is fancy reading if you ask me. There were questions about these really old books by writers
