1. content adj. ＆ vt. ＆ n.
(1) adj. 满足的，满意的，甘愿的，愿意的
He was well content with his work. 他对自己的工作很满意。

She is content to live quietly by herself. 她甘愿独自安静地生活。

(2) vt. 使满足，使满意
My answer seemed to content the teacher. 我的回答好像令老师满意。

(3) n. [U] 满足，满意，内容
She sang to her heart’s content. 她尽情地歌唱。

I like the style of his writing but I don’t like the content. 我喜欢他的写作风格，但是不喜欢他写的内容。

【妙语巧记】 Content is better than riches. 知足常乐。

【拓展】 be content with对……满意；be content to do sth 甘愿(愿意)做某事；content oneself with使自己满足于……；to one’s heart’s content 尽情地，心满意足地
【注意】 content用作形容词时，只作表语，不作定语。

作表语时只能用well / quite / perfectly修饰，不能用very修饰。

2. entertain vt. ＆ vi.
(1) vt. 使欢乐，给……娱乐
We were all entertained by his humorous stories. 他的幽默故事使我们大家都很开心。

(2) vt. ＆ vi. 招待，款待，请客
We intend to entertain guests with beef. 我们打算用牛肉来招待客人。

He loved to entertain when he was at home. 他在家时喜欢大宴宾客。

【拓展】 entertaining adj. 愉快的，有趣的；entertainment n. 娱乐；entertainer n. 款待者，表演艺人
3. overcome vt. 克服，战胜
Can you overcome your shortcomings? 你可以克服你的缺点吗？
She overcame injury and won the Olympic gold medal. 她战胜了伤痛，赢得了奥运会金牌。

【妙语巧记】 All difficulties on earth can be overcome if one gives his mind to it. 世上无难事，只怕有心人。

4. convince vt. 使确信，使相信，使信服
What he said just now convinced me of his sincerity. 他刚才说的话使我相信了他的真诚。

It was hard to convince you that we couldn’t afford a new car. 很难使你相信我们买不起一辆新汽车。

【注意】 convince 经常用于“convince sb of sth”或者“convince sb that”
结构中，表示“使某人相信 / 确信某事”之意。
