Pingyao Ancient City is a mesmerizing destination that effortlessly transports visitors back in time, showcasing the rich history and culture of China. Walking through the narrow alleyways, you can't help but feel a sense of awe at the well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty buildings that line the streets. Each building
tells a story of the city's past, from the elegant courtyards of wealthy merchants to the humble homes of ordinary citizens. One of my favorite spots is the Rishengchang Draft Bank, known as the first draft bank in China, where you can learn about the ancient banking system and its role in facilitating trade along the Silk Road.
Beyond its architectural wonders, Pingyao also boasts breathtaking natural scenery. The city is surrounded by towering mountains and lush forests, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures such as hiking and photography. One of the most picturesque spots is the Wang Family Courtyard, a sprawling complex of traditional Chinese architecture set amidst beautiful gardens and ponds.
But perhaps the most enchanting aspect of Pingyao is
its vibrant street life. From bustling market stalls
selling local delicacies to lively teahouses where locals gather to socialize, the city is alive with energy and charm. One of my fondest memories is wandering through the streets during the Pingyao International Photography Festival, where I had the chance to interact with photographers from all over the world and capture the essence of this historic city through my lens.
