In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate regarding the importance and effectiveness of standardized testing in education. While some argue that standardized tests like the Gaokao (China's national college entrance examination) are necessary for assessing students' academic abilities fairly and objectively, others believe that they place undue stress on students and fail to measure their true potential accurately.Proponents of standardized testing often argue that it provides a level playing field for all students, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. They argue that the Gaokao, for example, offers an equal opportunity for every student to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, thus ensuring fairness in the college admissions process. Moreover, standardized tests are seen as an effective way to evaluate large numbers of students efficiently and objectively. However, critics of standardized testing raise valid concerns about its limitations and negative consequences. One major criticism is that standardized tests tend to promote rote memorization and teach-to-the-test strategies rather than fostering critical thinking and creativity. This narrow focus on test preparation can lead to a superficial understanding of the subjects being tested and does not necessarily reflect students' true abilities or potential for success in college and beyond.Furthermore, standardized tests like the Gaokao are often criticized for causing excessive stress and anxiety among students. The high stakes associated with these exams, including their significant impact on college admissions and future career prospects, can take a toll on students' mental health and well-being. This pressure to perform well on standardized tests may also lead to cheating and other unethical behavior, undermining the integrity of the education system. In addition, standardized tests may not accurately measure important skills and qualities that are essential for success in the 21st-century workforce, such as creativity, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. As the world becomes increasinglycomplex and interconnected, employers are looking for candidates who possess these skills, rather than just high scores on standardized tests. In conclusion, while standardized testing serves as a convenient tool for assessing students' academic abilities on a large scale, it is not without its flaws and limitations. It is important to recognize the diverse talents and strengths of students that may not be captured by standardized tests alone. Moving forward, education systems should strive to adopt more holistic and flexible approaches to assessment that focus on nurturing students' overall development and preparing them for the challenges of the future.。

It was the first serious one in 40 years of farming sideby side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed. Then the long cooperation fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence. One morning there was a knock on John’s door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter’s toolbox. “I’m looking for a few days’ work, ” he said, “Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with. Could I help you? ”“Yes, ” said the older brother, “I do have a job for you. Look across the creek(河沟) on that farm. That’s my neighbour, in fact, it’s my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow(草地)between us and he took his bulldozer(推土机) to the river levee (堤) and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I’ll give him one better. I want you to build me a fence—an 8-foot fence—so I won’t need to see his place or his face any more. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing, and hammering.About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. A fine piece of work—and his younger brother, was coming across, his hand spread out.“You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I’ve said and done. ”The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other’s hand. They turned to see the carpenter lift his toolbox on his shoulder. “No, wait! Stay a few days. That’s more or less what happened the night that Nashville Police Officer Floyd Hyde was on duty.“I was on the w ay to a personal-injury accident in West Nashville. As I got onto Highway 40, blue lights and sirens(警笛) going, I fell in behind a gold Pontiac Firebird that suddenly seemed to take off quickly down the highway. The driver somehow panicked at the sight of me. He was going more than a hundred miles an hour and began passing cars on the shoulder. ”But Hyde couldn’t go after him. Taking care of injured people is always more important than worrying about speeders, so the officer had to stay on his way to the accident. At that point he found another unit had already arrived at the accident scene. His help wasn’t needed. Now he was free to try to stop the driver of the Firebird, who by this time had developed something new to panic about.“Just about that time,” Hyde says, “I saw fire coming out from under that car, with blue smoke and oil going everywhere. He’d blown his engine. Now he had to stop. ”“After I arrested him, I asked him why he was running. 2019年高考英语二轮复习《短文续写一》专项精练卷及参考答案

2019年高考英语二轮复习《短文续写一》专项精练卷及参考答案1、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
We all could say that we have bad days to endure as we go through life, but what does it take to have a really good day? Some would suggest that a day would be great if everything they did turned out well, or they got exactly what they needed. On the other hand, have you ever thought that what you may give someone else may be the best day you ever had especially when you put someone else’s well-being or happiness first on your list? There is special warmth available to you and that warmth can come from a helping hand, doing a small favor for a total stranger, or even a smile.I recall a day recently when I had to go to the hospital for an appointment because I wasn’t feeling well and my doctor sent me to a specialist to try and determine the cause. As I drove to the hospital, I admittedly was feeling gloomy and certainly wasn’t on top of my game. As I approached the hospital, I began my search for a parking spot, a spot that was hard to come with everyone else trying to do the same thing. I finally found a spot not too far from the entrance to the hospital. As I got out and brought my change out of my pocket, I noticed a man looking somewhat upset standing in front of a parking meter two cars away. He seemed to be searching his pockets for what I supposed was change for the meter.Although,I really didn’t feel that great, I thought that I should at least g o over to him and find out if I could help him. As I approached him, he turned to look at me, feeling at a loss not knowing what to do.I asked him if he had a problem I could help with, and he said, without hesitation, that he had no change at all because he left it in his houseonly thinking about visiting his sick wife.

请看下面的例子:1、词性的多样性:大多数词不止一种词性,有的需要利用构词法进行词性转换:increasesteadily.→Ithelpsalot./It’sofgreathelp.2、高级词汇的运用:a.Youreffortswillbeveryimportant.→Youreffortswillmakeagreatdifference.b.It’swisetobuyanup—to—dateversion〔最新的版本〕。
→It’smakessensetobuyanup—to—dateversion.3、同义词的运用:a.moreandmorepeople→anincreasingnumberofpeople.b.attractive→appealing/inviting/fascinating.〔吸引人的〕c.moreandmoreimportant→increasinglysignificant..d.cause〔引起〕→resultin/leadto/bringabout.e.infact→inreality/asamatteroffact/intruth.4、恰字利用短语取代单词:a.SuddenlyIhadagoodidea.→SuddenlyIcameupwithagoodidea.→Allofasudden,agoodideaoccurredtome.b.Itriedhardtounderstandwhatwashappening.→Itriedhardtofigureoutwhatwasgoingon.c.Herefusedtolistentohisfather.→Heturnedadeafeartohisfather.Ⅱ、如何理解“应用了较多的语法结构?”“较多的语法结构”就是指句式结构的多样性。
请体会以下句式的转换:1、复合句与并列句转换eg:Ifyoudon’tstartoffearly,you’llbelatefortheconference.→Startoffearlyoryou’llbelatefortheconference.2、并列句与简单句转换eg:Shewantedtobecomeacollegestudent,soshestudiedhared.→Shestudiedhardsoastobecomeacollegestudent.3、名词性从句与非谓语结构的转化eg:Thathehadwonthegamedelightedhisparents.→Hiswinningthegamedelightedhisparents.4、定语从句与非谓语结构的转化eg:Thebuilding(whichis)beingbuiltisourlibrary.5、状语从句与非谓语结构的转化eg:Afterhwhaddonehishomework,hebegantoplaycomputergames.→Hauingdonehishomework,hebegantoplaycomputergames.6、主动式和被动式的转换eg:Somepeoplebelievethatitwillbepossibleformantoliveonanotherplanet.→It’sbelieved(bysomepeople)thatitwillbepossible…7、肯定式与否定式的转换eg:a.Ishallgothereifitdoesn’train.→Ishallgothereunlessitrains.b.Iwilltrymybestnottoletthemdown.→Iwilltrymybesttoliveuptotheirexpectations.8、正常语序和倒装语序的转换eg:a.Wedidnotrealizetheimportanceofenvironmentalprotectionuntilthe1980s.→Notuntilthe1980sdidwerealizetheimportanceofenvironmentalProtection.b.Wecanachievesuccessinthisway.→Onlyinthiswaycanweachievesuccess.c.IfIhadworkedhardatschool,mylifetodaywouldbequitedifferent.→HadIworkedhardatschool,……9、with复合结构的运用eg:WiththeCollegeEntranceExaminationdrawingnear,manyofusaregettingmoreandmo renervous.10、强调句式的运用eg:Itisthegovernment’seffortsthatmakethevillagersgetoverthepresentdifficult.11、独立主格结构的运用eg:Iftimespermits,I’llgowiththemtohelpthosehomelesspeople.→Timepermitting,I’llgowiththemtohelp……Ⅲ、如何理解“上下文的连贯性”?
表示递进关系的:besides,moreover,furthermoresimilarly,inaddition,what’smore.What’sworse,worsestill.2.表示转折关系的:yet,however,nevertheless,while,otherwise,onthecontrary,inspiteof3.表示因果关系的:therefore,thus,consequently,asaresult,owingtothanksto,dueto,onaccountof,now that,asacon-sequence,becauseof4.表示条件关系的:as(so)longas,onconditionthat,unless,suppose/supposing,provided/providing 5. 表示列举的:firstly,secondly,thirdly,on(the)nehand…ontheotherhand,foronething…foranother(一那么…再那么…),tobeginwith,7.表示个人观点的inmy(personal)opinion,al/sofarasI’mconcerned,frommypointofview,it’smybeliefthat……8.表示时间顺序的afterwards,afterthat,inthebegriming,allofasudden,atthatmoment,fromnowon,fro mthenon,meanwhile,inthemeantime,not…until,intheend,eventually9.表示空间顺序的:Ontheright/left,onthesideof,attheendof,ontheothersideof,atthetop/foot,inthe middle/center/frontofin/on/totheeast(of),nextto,beyond,nearby10.
