庆祝中国的节日和外国的节日英语作文Celebrating Holidays Around the World
Hi, my name is Lily and I'm in 5th grade. I love learning about different cultures and their special holidays and celebrations. My family is Chinese, so we celebrate a lot of traditional Chinese festivals. But I also really enjoy learning about holidays from other countries too. Let me tell you about some of my favorite ones!
In China, the biggest holiday is definitely Chinese New Year. It's also known as the Spring Festival. We get a long break from school and everything is decorated with red lanterns, oranges, and papercut-outs. On New Year's Eve, my whole family gathers together for a huge feast with all our favorite dishes like dumplings, noodles, fish, and sweet rice balls. After dinner, we kids get red envelopes filled with money from our parents and grandparents for good luck. It's so exciting! Then we stay up late to watch the New Year's countdown on TV and set off firecrackers at midnight to welcome the new year. The next few days are filled with visiting friends and relatives, watching dragon dances and lion dances, and eating lots of delicious food.
I always feel so happy during this time.
Another major holiday in China is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which happens in the fall when the moon is full and bright. For this festival, we eat mooncakes, which are round pastries filled with lotus seed paste or other sweet fillings. They're supposed to look like the full moon. My grandma always buys the fancy mooncakes from the bakery and gives them as gifts. We also carry brightly colored lanterns and there are lantern riddle games and performances in parks. It's a very pretty and fun celebration.
The Qingming Festival is sometimes called Tomb Sweeping Day. For this holiday in early spring, we visit the graves of our ancestors to clean them and leave offerings like food, drinks, and flowers. Even though it's a solemn occasion, I like going with my family as it makes me feel connected to my roots and history. Afterwards, we have a picnic with extended family and fly colorful kites.
Those are some of the major Chinese festivals, but there are also lots of other fun ones like the Dragon Boat Festival, Double Ninth Festival, and Lantern Festival. Each one has its own special customs, foods, and activities which I really enjoy experiencing every year.
In addition to Chinese holidays, I'm really interested in learning about celebrations from other countries too. There are so many interesting and unique ones! For example, the American holiday of Halloween on October 31st is super fun. Kids get to dress up in costumes like ghosts, superheroes, or animals and go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood collecting candy. People also carve pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns and decorate their houses to look spooky. I went trick-or-treating a couple times with my friend Jessica and it was a blast getting to wear a costume and go door-to-door. Plus, who doesn't love getting free candy?
Another holiday I find really fascinating is the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. This multi-day festival in early November honors deceased loved ones with colorful skeleton decorations, candy skulls, marigold flowers, and special breads and dishes. Families visit graves and set up beautiful altars with photos, belongings, and favorite foods of their relatives. There are also lively parades with music, dancing, and elaborate costumes and skull makeup. It's such a vibrant and meaningful way to celebrate and remember those who have passed on.
Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, is another holiday I've learned a bit about. Celebrated in fall, it involves lighting rows of lamps and candles, watching fireworks, exchanging gifts, and making beautiful rangoli artworks from colored sand or flower petals. Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It seems like such a cheerful and positive holiday full of bright colors and patterns.
There are so many other amazing holidays around the world like Lunar New Year, Holi, Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, Hanukkah, and more. Each one has its own rituals, foods, clothes, and traditions that make it special. While the specific holidays may differ, I think celebrating together and keeping cultural heritage alive is really important for every community and society. That's one of the reasons I love learning about all these different holidays and celebrations!
I feel really fortunate that my parents have exposed me to holiday traditions from both our Chinese culture and other cultures too. It has allowed me to appreciate the rich diversity in the world. I always have so much fun taking part in the various activities, trying delicious holiday foods, and just soaking in all the festivities and cheer. Holidays bring so much happiness, joy, and meaning to people's lives. They help us come together with
family, maintain our cultural identities, and make wonderful memories that last a lifetime.
I can't wait to continue learning about and experiencing more amazing holidays from cultures around the globe as I grow older. Who knows, maybe I'll even get to celebrate them in their home countries one day! For now, I'll just keep enjoying all the special celebrations right here at home with the people I love most. After all, that's what holidays are all about.。
