Passage
It is never nice to fall sick in a strange country. What happens if you do need to seek medical help? Here are some useful tips on seeking medical help in China. First of all, you should know the emergency call number. You can dial 120 from anywhere. Then you should know big cities in China all have hospitals and clinics for foreigners. Some can provide a full range of medical services such as operations and check-ups, while other smaller clinics may simply be able to diagnose the symptoms of minor illnesses. Next, you need to be certain that your insurance will cover the charges or you must pay the bill yourself. Last but not least, if you want to see a foreign doctor, who works for a small clinic, you should make sure he’s licensed. As all foreign doctors must be licensed by local medical authorities.

W: Hey, Alex. You look terrible. What’s troubling you? M: I have a terrible headache, Dr. Brown. W: Tell me how it got started. M: Yesterday I had a runny nose. Now my nose is stuffed up and my throat hurts badly. And I’m afraid I’ve got a temperature as well. W: Don’t worry. Let me take a look at your throat. Open your mouth and say “ah”. M: Ah... W: Good. Now put your tongue out. All right, let me examine your chest. By the way, do you have a history of tuberculosis?

M: No, definitely not. W: Look, your throat is inflamed. And your tongue is thickly coated. You seem to have picked up influenza. M: What am I supposed to do then? W: Take two pills of this medicine three times a day after meals. And you’d better take a few days off and don’t wear yourself out. M: Thank you, doctor. I’ll try to do as you said. Q3: What’s wrong with Alex? Q4: What’s Alex’s problem according to Dr. Brown? Q5: What will Alex do after going home?
W: You have got a touch of flu. Just take some medicine and you’ll be all right soon.
Q: What’s wrong with the man? 2. W: I’m not feeling well and I have a sore throat. Need I take

Conversation 1
M: Good morning. What seems to be the problem? W: I feel so weak and almost can’t do anything. I’m out of breath after working only a few minutes. M: How long have you been like this? W: I am not sure. Er, maybe since last month. M: Well, have you ever been here before? W: No. Actually, I have just moved to this city. M: OK. In that case, you have to fill in this registration card, with your age, gender, address and things like that. W: No problem. Which department should I register with, sir? M: You’d better go to the medical department. W: Here is my registration card. Thank you. Q1: What’s the woman’s problem? Q2: Which department will the woman register with?
