Spinning Tricks -
Single Looped String (pt 1) The Spinner
Hold the yo-yo correctly in your hand and curl your arm up like making a muscle with your hand next to your ear.
Bring your elbow
down with a snap as
you release the yo-
yo out over the ends
of your fingers.
The yo-yo should stay spinning at
the end of the string. Before it
slows down too much, turn your
hand over (palm down) and give it
a slight upward jerk to bring the
yo-yo back to your hand.
Walk the Dog
Throw a fast spinner. Gently lower the yo-yo until it barely touches the floor.
The yo-yo will
start walking
forward.
Be sure to jerk the yo-yo back to
your hand before it runs out of
spin, or you will do the "dead dog."
The Creeper
Starting with a fast spinner, swing the yo-yo out in front of you as far as you can reach and put the yo-yo and your hand on the floor at the same time.
Give the string a slight jerk and the yo-yo will bounce back along the floor into your hand.
Spinning Tricks -
Single Looped String (pt 2) Around the Corner
Throw a fast spinner. Put your hand in the "I swear" position, and move your elbow around in front of the string.
Keeping your elbow
high, lower your hand
to the string and give it
an upward jerk.
The yo-yo will climb the
string over your arm and
drop in front of you where
you can pull it back to your
hand.
Rock the Baby
Practice making the cradle with a dead yo-yo before trying it with a sleeping yo-yo. With the yo-yo hanging at the end of the string, hold your yo-yo hand up like a policeman saying "stop."
Reach between your
thumb and first finger
with all four fingers of the
other hand and pull the
string back down until it
forms a triangle.
Swing the yo-yo through
the triangle a couple of
times. Drop the string and
the yo-yo will return to
your hand if it is spinning
fast enough.
Spinning Tricks - Single Looped String (pt 3)
Flying Saucer
This is a flashy adjustment trick. Throw a spinner at a 45 degree angle diagonally across your body.
While the yo-yo is on its side,
catch the string above the yo-
yo with the other hand, lift to
yo-yo to a level above the yo-
yo hand, and release.
The yo-yo will wind
back to your hand.
Note: Throw the yo-yo to
the left to loosen and
the right to tighten the
string.
Break Away
Make a muscle with the yo-yo on your shoulder. Throw a spinner out to that side.
Swing the yo-yo so that it
rotates in front of you from
shoulder to shoulder.
When it reaches your
other shoulder, give the
yo-yo a quick tug and
bring it back to your hand.
Man on the Trapeze
Hold the opposite hand waist-high with the index finger pointed forward. Make a muscle with the yo-yo on your shoulder.
Throw a spinner to that side and
swing the yo-yo across your body
and over your extended finger so
that the yo-yo hits the string
about 1-2 yo-yo lengths from your
finger.
To return the yo-yo
to your hand, pull
the extended finger
out of the string.
Thumb Wind
Use your free hand
to hold the unwound
yo-yo with the thumb
in the string groove
with the string bent
around the end of your thumb. The yo-yo hand should be held above and slightly behind the yo-yo.
By pulling upwards
with the string at the
same time as letting
the yo-yo roll off the
end of your thumb,
enough spin is generated to start the yo-yo up the string. Once started, you can "yo-yo" it up and down until it reaches your hand.。
