22. When you study abroad in France, you can expect to be treated the same as your native classmates, whether in a lecture or a discussion class.
While you can study abroad in France and focus on nearly any subject, it’s the students with a passion for the arts, architecture (建筑学) and history that rush to the country in the largest numbers.And that’s no shock, considering that France has been the center of the arts for centuries.
As students of the arts, you will have to make careful use of your time, given all that France has to offer.
●Visit the Louvre to view the works of French artists such as Monet, Matisse and Renoir;
●Read the works of such French literary geniuses as Baudelaire, Proust and Voltaire;
●Listen to the music of Debussy, or more contemporary (当代的) artists like Air and Daft Punk.
France is also a main destination for architecture students, as you will see architecture in nearly every style:
●The Gothic Chateau de Chambord, built in the 1500s;
●Place Dauphine built in 1607 in Baroque style;
●The post—modern housing development, Marne—la—Vallee.
History students will find that France has been where the action is for quite some time. Over the course of the centuries, it has been the stage for the most important developments in the history of mankind, including the French Revolution, the rise of Napoleon and the rise of the Fifth Republic under President Charles de Gaulle. It was also the site of the D—Day invasion (诺曼底登陆) of world War II.
As a possible study abroad location, France has a lot to offer, because the combination of educational institutions (教育机构), arts and culture, and national history are second to none.

23. Your next car could have two seats, three wheels---two in front and one in the back and
a top speed of more than 100 miles per hour. Elio Motors plans to make such a tiny car named the Elio. Its two seats sit front and back instead of side by side. The driver is positioned in the center with the passenger directly behind.
The starting price for the car is just $6,800. It has only one door, on the left side, which cuts a few hundred dollars off the manufacturing costs. Having three wheels also makes it cheaper. It has air conditioning, power windows and door locks and an AM/FM radio. More features can be ordered through Elio’s long list of suppliers. Elio will also sell the cars directly through its own stores and not through franchised dealers
Paul Elio dreamed as a kid that he would one day own a car company called Elio Motors. In 2008, tired of high gas prices, he started working on a car that burns gas in a more effective way. Equally important to him was creating U.S. manufacturing jobs and making the car inexpensive enough to attract buyers who might otherwise be stuck in their old, unreliable (不可靠的)cars. “Whatever matters to you, this can move the needle on it,” he said.
Already, more than 27,000 people have reserved (预订)one. Paul hopes to make 250,000 cars a year by 2016. So far, reservation holders are those who will use the Elio as a second car or third car for work. Finally, though, he believes the car will interest high school and college students as well as used-car drivers who want something newer and more reliable.
9. Which of the following shows the design of the Elio?
(O=wheel, □=seat)
A. B.
C. D.
10. Paragraph 2 shows that the Elio ________.
A. is sold at affordable prices
B. will be available in most stores
C. has a fixed temperature
D. does no harm to the environment
11. The underlined words “move the needle” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “________”.
A. take a chance
B. stand in the way
C. break into pieces
D. make a difference
12. What would be the best title for the text?
A. The history of Elio Motors
B. Cool and practical vehicle
C. Paul Elio: a kid with big dreams
D. What car to choose: new or used?
9. C 10. A 11. D 12. B

由第一段中的two seats, three wheels — two in front and one in the back和Its two seats sit front and back可知两个座位,三个轮子两在前一个在后和两座位坐前面和后面,故选C项。

由该段中的the car is just $6,800可知,Elio是一款便宜的小汽车,故选A 项。

所以文章标题用Cool car or stupid vehicle?

1. Which of the following shows the design of the Elio?
(O=wheel, □=seat)
A. B.
C. D.

通读全文得知第一段介绍的是这种自行车的结构,在第一段中找出对这类事实进行描述的关键句,即“two seats, three wheels — two in front and one in the back和Its two seats sit front and back”,句意为可知两个座位,三个轮子两在前一个在后和两座位坐前面和后面,从所给的四个选项中进行选择,可知C符合题意,故选C。
